If an organization is thankful and want to make an announcement to garner attention to this worthy cause, than it is all good. Many charities and organizations rely on the kindness of strangers. This cannot be done without press releases, news items and the goodness of high profile people. If giving is done “quietly”, how do you know it was given and the organization benefited, or is this a standard cop-out given by hens to justify the self-absorbed narcissistic lifestyle of many in Hollyweird.

Almost all large donations are publicized. If you were a little more experienced or educated you would understand this. It is important to the recipient of the donation that the public learns that they are worthy of donations, that their cause is worthy and that they are considered capable of handling large donations.

Even when a donor might prefer an anonymous donation, the organization almost always wants to publicize it. It always results in an influx of even more donations to the organization or the cause in general.

That’s part of the purpose of philanthropy - to give in a way that encourages others to give and to show them how to give. You can’t do that in the dark.

Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks were REALLY private when they dontated money on a national TV fundraiser, right after 911, I believe Julia donated 2 million (at a time she was making around 20 mil a film) . BTW most of that telethon was directed at PUBLIC AWARENESS for the need for funding. Did ALL of those stars donate?

When singers donated their “time” for the “We are the World” record years ago, only a PERCENTAGE of the PROFITS were earmarked for the charity. Instead of donating their “time” they all could have written a big fat check! Still, it was wildly publicized to raise PUBLIC AWARENESS.

The list of telethons to raise money and raise public awareness goes on and on.

You do no seem to have a problem with stars insisting that the ordinary working man or woman donate money, whether they, themselves donate or not.

So what is your problem with someone that donates directly, raises public awareness without the expense of a television production, CD production, T-shirt manufacturing etc?

Brad and Angelina took the most direct route to their goal. They dontated themselves and raised public awareness by publicizing the cause.

I respect them all the more for that. They get the job done!

Of course People Magazine keeps track of their donations because they gave them a **** load of Money that’s meant for Charity. Probably my last post. I have been here for awhile as a total Jolie fan. And through her celebrity status I have become a fan of Pitt’s. But not just because of their acting but their humanitarian work. But I have come to realize that to me they are humanitarians that just happen to work in the film industry for a living. I can see that the J-P’s are being viewed less and less as food for fodder for the tabloids and are being viewed more and more for all the serious work they do. Jolie has grown into a woman to be respected and its proof is that she will be viewed side by side with the Secretary of State! Pitt has grown into a man to be respected as well. Proof of that was President Obama welcoming him into the White House. So somehow all this arguing between stranger just doesn’t seem so worth it anymore. The Jolie-Pitt ’s are are the real deal and should be treated as such.

Anyone who thinks “most celebrities” keep their donations private is seriously deluding themselves. They ALL release their donations to the press. That’s if they even bother to donate rather than just showing up to formal dinners and calling their per plate fee their “support” of a charity.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton fractured her right elbow during a fall Wednesday, her chief of staff said.

Clinton was on her way to the White House when she fell and injured her elbow, chief of staff Cheryl Mills said in a statement released late Wednesday.

Clinton was treated at The George Washington University Hospital, just a few blocks from State Department headquarters, before going home. She will undergo surgery to repair her elbow in the coming week, Mills said.

“Secretary Clinton appreciates the professionalism and kindness she received from the medical team who treated her this evening and looks forward to resuming her full schedule soon,” Mills said.

Clinton had been scheduled to join actress Angelina Jolie on Thursday morning at a Washington event marking World Refugee Day. That event has been removed from Clinton’s public schedule.

I find all the critisizm towards those who are donating their time and money towards those in need rather alarming and hateful. I believe the men, women and children who this money will go to benefit do not care where or who this money is coming from, as long as they receive the help and aid they desperately need. I do not believe the refugees are looking a gift horse in the mouth. This does make me proud to be a fan of the Jolie-Pitts.

I don’t know about this year, but I read it in the newspaper when JRoberts gave a million dollars right after Katrina happened, and SSpielberg gave a million dollars to the charity for Darfur started by Brad, George Clooney, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle.
The recipient of a donation usually announces the donation and the donor. A foundation usually announces its donation to a charity.

What is your problem? What does it matter, whether a donation is public or not??? Surely what matters is that people in need benefit.

I have read comments where people wrote that Angelina just visits the refugees, but no she doesn’t just visit she gives her own hard earned money too. US Lies Weakly ain’t good for much, but last year they did a short article and pix for the EB fundraiser. X didn’t do a damned thing for this charity except stand next to Courteney Cox at fund raiser and act like she cared. Brad, on the other hand, donated M-O-N-E-Y. IIRC it was $100K. His manager, Cynthia Pette-Dante, who also manages Courteney, has a son who suffers from EB. COURTENEY is the one who’s involved with the EB Foundation. X, as usual, was coattail riding on Courteney’s work. I really am boggled as to how Courteney can stand having such a big ass moocher as a “friend”.

Anyone can “support” something. I do know for a fact that she DID donate a used handbag. I also know that if you spend YOUR cash on HER brand of water, pennies got to some charity while she gets most of the profits. Hmmm, I see first shift trollette has just clocked in, checked her list of topics to post this morning. Third shift trollette posted negatively regarding the $1m donation. I don’t know why people want to hate on anyone who wants to give to any charity or anybody. However they chose to give privately or publicly is a good thing. I sure they don’t care if their name is given or not. But it’s wonderful to see people giving to help others and it should inspire you.
Secondly noone cares what JA gives or what movie she is about to come to let us have to hear about. She will come out on her curcuit again probably around the time IB does so she can associate herself with AJ again.
Also did anyone see Chelsea lately last night, I’m not a fan but I was surfing and saw she was going to talk about MFand Angie.
She started off with some article where Megan F was praising Angie and saying she had a girl crush on her and then she made some ignorant joke about James Haven. The audience didn’t find it quite funny, she didn’t like when she showed their pic side by side and the crowd was going nuts. So she went on to say MF has been channeling AJ for years and the guest panel agrees and the guy there made some kind of sexual reference to the pix for the reason he couldn’t reply. So they cut to a scene where Mad was talking to MF and the black chick on there told her Angie didn’t care what noone says she has 6 kids and a fine azz husband, then she went on to say that she would one day get into trouble talking about people’s kids. ie Dave L. She was serious. So Chelsea looked at her when she said husband like she was about to say when did they get married. Then she said well I think Angelina looks better than MF.
It was so good to see that she wanted to rag and make jokes and the audience and her panel was like get over it and I think the black girl likes AJ because I saw another episode where she defended her again. We all know CH loathes AJ so she got shut up last night. But I”m sure she won’t stop.

it just shows how you have very little understanding of publicity. u cant assume the info came from their publicist; each organization has their own pr department and if a VERY famous couple donated a HUGE sum of money - that is major publicity for their organization too. so, it is possible they released the news, not brad and angelina’s people. having people associate them with a powerful couple like this gives them MORE benefits than just the monetary value.

What is it with all the tabloids claiming that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are breaking up? This column can assure you that it’s absolutely not true. They have several kids together, have a saint status for their humanitarian deeds, and have been Hollywood’s hottest couple for the past three years.

Does Jennifer Aniston have something to do with this? After all, Ms. Aniston can’t seem to keep a husband, boyfriend, or even a film career. Perez Hilton and others constantly call her “Maniston” and she is ridiculed throughout the Internet.

It’s most probable that the rumors being spread are by people who are so miserable with their own lives that they love to see celebrities fail. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have what true stars are made of. Unfortunately, that’s just too much for some.

“Only 1 million? Way to spare it” Seriously people. I dont think YOU give 1 million to charities. Plus, they have the Jolie-Pitt Foundation which gives to charities 24/7 during the year. That stuff might not be public, but when they gave this 1 mill, it happened to be. -Angelina & Brad are great people. They know what they have, and make sure to give back to others. Angelina also said that she and Brad want to make sure their children understand how fortunate they are, and they want them to travel and see the rest of the world

i agree with LadyLurksAlot. When the twins were born, they gave ALL of those millions to charities. Magazines kept bidding to get the first photos, and the ones who would give the most, the family chose to give all the cash to charity. When Shiloh was born, they did the same. Also, when Pax and Angelina were on the cover, they recieved money and donated it also. So dont say “they could have gave more”. They do. We dont have to know every last bit of cash they give and where it goes, but the truth is they give back more in a year, then they make per movie.
