I am the most hysterical animal-lover who cries over dead worms and while i admire the fact that PETA sometimes openly criticise people in the public eye (although unfortunelty not always in a mature way) for not respecting animals - this is just ridiculous. Flies are dirty and apart from having a minor position in the food chain, they really are completely useless and most of the time, goddamn annoying. What was Obama supposed to do? Get up in the middle of his interview and lovingly catch and release a fly?! It’s an automatic reflex to swat away a fly for gods sake! If only people would use their energy, creativity, time and money for something more important than inventing a f*****g fly-rescue tool.

Are you kidding me? PETA seriously needs to complete a refresher course in science! Their organization stands for: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. And a fly isn’t even an animal. It’s a freaking insect and one that carries diseases no less. Animals and insects are completely different classifications. PETA is attempting to stir up negativity for the President and it’s obvious they are trying to make something out of nothing at all. In the end, what they don’t realize is that they are making themselves look like idiots. In addition, flies have compound eyes so they can see anything coming for them even from behind. So the very fact that the president was even able kill it proves that the fly was in a weakened state and was going to die soon anyway.

There are more important thngs in the world!

Flies spread disease, and some pretty nasty ones too! They feed on all manner of rotting, organic matter, including dog poo! If a fly then walks on something you’re eating it can can give you a pretty serious stomach disorder. They eat their food by vomiting on it first to dissolve it. They are considered to be pests for a very good reason. I think that PETA really need to develope a sense of proportion about this and possibly some common sense wouldn’t go amiss.

these people are plants; plain and simple. put them in a corner somewhere; give them water and fertilizer. i can do one better than the president. i dissect the little creatures in my biology class by the dozens.

I bet if the Peta people had some flies swarming in and around their a#s they certainly would make sure they kill the suckers. Now they have made themselves the laughing stock.

I agree with PETA…I am Canadian…however I do think that PETA should put their money where there mouth is…they should pay for round-the-clock shifts for Secret Service personnel (3 per day, 8h shifts and part-timers for the weekend)…vs. billing the American public…to carry the fly-catcher on standby that is…or do they expect the President to carry it himself to every interview?…perhaps they do…I’m all fot the ethical treatment of animals…perhaps they should change their name and motto to PESTA…People for the Ethical and Sensible Treatment of Animals…only after giving their heads a shake…I would like to see what the president of PETA would do when locked in a room full of small and innocent mosquitoes, armed with a mosquito catcher…would you shoo, catch, or swat?…could put a PETA Youtube video together to support…President Obama should stop working so hard…sweat attracts flies, does it not?…not sure how many flies President Bush attracted…oh ya, Vice-President Cheney was on standby with some buckshot…now c’mon…couldn’t they just have left things by staying silent on this one or leaving it at them preferring that President Obama would have shooed it away…again and again…retake after retake (for the interview)…not like he has better things to do?
