Angelina Jolie: World Refugee Day Commemoration
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie joins the commemoration of World Refugee Day at the National Geographic Society on Thursday (June 18) in Washington, D.C.
According to UNHCR, this year’s theme for World Refugee Day on June 20 is “Real People, Real Needs.” Of the millions of people forcibly displaced by conflict, persecution and natural disasters, every one has a story to tell; they are real people, just like you and me, and they have real needs. But, despite the best efforts of UNHCR and many others, many of these basic needs are far from being met.

To the haters - stop worry about Angie’s look. I wish I look like this anyday. The refugees is an important issue and the only thing you can talk about is her look. Get some substance in your life and stop smoking because your little brain is too limited to understand that there is more to life than being so bitter and ugly! Speaking of look, your hair mop idol wish she can look like this because Angie is on every beautiful and sexy lists out there, even though she doesn’t care about it and plus she doesn’t have to pose naked on covers to say that she is sexy. Here is a little advice, if your idol has to scream to the world that she is sexy, obviously men don’t think she is sexy. She will never be on the list - not with that man chin face. Less is more!

here’s the video. not that it matters but she looks pretty. I guess I should be used to her looking better in video than in still shots. not that she’s ugly in the stills but she always makes the oddest faces when she talks and the blogs love to choose the pics where she’s not looking her best. this site actually chose the better shots to be honest. :lol:

old? well, she is aging as everybody else is experiencing. well ofcourse some haters probably doesn’t know what natural aging means since their idol is miss forever young.
she is looking beautiful on those photos considering she just flew in from L.A.
I really like here, her simple natural beauty, intelligence and sobriety wether in the mere make-up or dressing department. No flashy stuff a la Hollywood

This Angelina “chick” has been involved for years in the topic of the World refugees and other World issues, and she appears to be well respected and taken into account by very important people, not just anonymous bloggers.

Of course, more seasoned fans who have followed her career more closely may inform you later of her actions, sine you already ask, or you may google them if you are interested. You’d be surprised, but you can learn something new and interesting today.

More important to use a brain than just to be one.
Yes, she’s aging too fast for a 34 year old woman but she has a lot on her plate.
Physical beauty fades in everyone. But not everyone has wisdom and inner beauty. Those are treasures that only grow better with time.
Jeez, trolls are shallow and superficial. All they care about in life is the look and the age just like their favorite celebrity. Anyway, i’m glad that she’s speaking in behalf of UNHCR to help bring awarness of the current situation of the refugees. And about being old and tired? Where? I don’t see any traces of it from the photos. I think she is beautiful, smart and very poised on those photos.

Now who is the most wordly, articulate, cultured, savy, intellect, intelligent , aware and involved in humanitarian crisis, the best speaker of the two ? I don’t think it’s the brainless cow boy graduated from a reputable college or not !
I appreciate that Angelina Jolie wants everyone to focus their attention on the worlds refuges, but, there are so many underprivileged children in America that are in need of attention as well. I really appreciate the work that Ashley Judd does as an ambassador of Children with Aids. She seldomly uses this as a PR opportunity for herself.

One time, when I was a die hard fan (and had no life) I read an article that if she wanted to escape the media, she could go to whatever the hell country it was and be left alone. She also had mentioned she would probably retire soon enough. I cried.

Angelina Jolie Celebrates World Refugee Day

Standing ovations underscored an emotional ceremony Thursday marking World Refugee Day - with some of them led by Angelina Jolie. The star, along with the rest of the audience, was visibly as they heard firsthand stories from refugees who have been relocated to the United States. They were also able to cheer, via Internet camera, along with students from a school in a Chad refugee camp.
Due to unexpected circumstances, some expected guests were not able to make the Washington, D.C., event. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had broken her elbow in an accident, while scheduled host Anderson Cooper suffered flight problems, leaving Ann Curry to fill in.
Jolie, obviously choked up with emotion, said of the refugees, “Most of all they are survivors … They are the most impressive people I have ever met.”
Tales of Survival
Recalling a 2001 trip for the United Nations Refugee Agency to Afghanistan, during which she talked with an expectant mother of two, Jolie recalled, “Before we said goodbye to the pregnant lady, she pointed to her young boy with such a sad look and she said, ‘He’s always asking for more food, and it hurts me to say, “We have none.” ‘ A few weeks later the war in Afghanistan began.”
Later in the hour-plus program, Jolie and the rest of the audience sat captivated as honoree Rose Mapendo, a single mother held captive in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for 16 months during that country’s civil war, recounted being forced to witness the torture and execution of her husband, and giving birth to twin sons on the cement floor of her cell.
After the presentation, Mapendo, Jolie and the head of the U.N. Refugee Agency, Antonio Guterres, joined other American and international dignitaries for lunch. Thursday evening, all three will reunite for a gala celebration for UNHCR - before Jolie and her children leave D.C. to head back to Los Angeles, where Brad Pitt is filming Moneyball.
