Angelina Jolie: World Refugee Day Commemoration
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie joins the commemoration of World Refugee Day at the National Geographic Society on Thursday (June 18) in Washington, D.C.
According to UNHCR, this year’s theme for World Refugee Day on June 20 is “Real People, Real Needs.” Of the millions of people forcibly displaced by conflict, persecution and natural disasters, every one has a story to tell; they are real people, just like you and me, and they have real needs. But, despite the best efforts of UNHCR and many others, many of these basic needs are far from being met.

What an incredible woman!

Jolie’s near decade long commitment to the plight of the refugee forced from their home is admirable. It is all too easy to turn your back on these silent people. Thank goodness they have found a voice in someone so articulate and seriously dedicated to this work. So many celebrities are just dillitantes when it comes to their “charity.” That is obviously not the case with Jolie who has actually made her humanitarian work her second career and worked hard to gain respect and much needed assistance for these people.
She is not wearing any make up that is why people?????????because she does not cares she does not want to be sexy she has to kill her look in ordred people to hear her. is not about her!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love her, beautiful inside and out. She is so beautiful in the youtube video when she talks, she is elegant. Truly admire her, she has kind, sensitive eyes and you can tell that this subject means so much more to her, she doesn’t just prance around in tight jeans, selling peace tshirts and a social event, she walks the walk. The people who really hate her, I’m convinced they work for the X’s camp, because how can you possibly hate someone who works and gives so much for the unfortunate of the world? Even a couple of my friends who aren’t fans of her are like “she does a lot of good, like her for that, she works hard for UN causes”, at least they are big enough to admit that.
That said, I can so see why Brad loves her, she’s the whole package.
The full compassion she has for the refugees is so profound.
I deeply respect her commiment to the survivals.
She is a woman of substance. And yes she is educated. She attended New York University studying film and drama. She is more intelligent than anyone who has a Ph D. A person’s worth is not only measured by a bachelor’s or Master’s or Associate in Art’s for that matter. Look at all she had accomplished. Brad too has accomplished so much even if he was 2 units away from a journalism degree in Missouri. I commend these couple especially Angie. This is the reason why the tab writers feature her and put her down since good news will not sell. This is why Brad put loves and adores this woman hands down.

I couldn’t agree more. Her makeup is minimal at best and her simple outfit are very fitting at this occasion. Her beauty still shines through!!!
Damn I’m at work and can’t view this event as it’s unfold. I’m looking forward tonite interview with A Cooper. It’s a shame that Hillary couldn’t make it.
She’s admirable, she speaks with top dignatiries of the world and speaks intelligently about this subject and with such genuine kindness. Plus she doesnt do this stuff only because she got a free tshirt out of it and was dragged along by friends who support a cause, so she jumped on their bandwagon and because it’s good PR, she didn’t need to attach herself to 3 GFs and a double-arm-hug in order to support a cause. She’s a GOOD, TRUE PERSON, admire her confidence and kindess, that makes her sexy.

Because she educates herself. You do not have to be in college to have critical thinking skills and to learn how to research.
I have a Master’s Degree from the world’s highest ranked grad school in my field, and post Masters work and I cannot begin to list some of the idiots I have met in the rarified world of academia.
It depends on how you use the information. furthermore Angelina’s trips are never “5 min” photo shoots. Check the UNHCR records.
check the statements people who have travelled with her testify to.
Here are some other people who did NOT go to college:

She’s beautiful, wow, without hardly any makeup and just wearing a simple black outfit, most people woud love to look even half as good as that LOL!! And she’s smart! She’s not just an orange gal with a dry chin and nose, like some peopel are *cough cough*, and so she spends all day at spa, ,she’s not blowdryed to the max at $50K a week on hair *cough cough*, she doesn’ spend ages primping herself. And most of all, she doesn’t just urge people to buy a pricey T instead of buying a boatload of them herself or giving her own moola or. You can tell AJ finds the cause more important than herself, she’s a natural beauty inside and out. How can anyone admire the other things that a certain person does and not this very giving woman? People are weird and have their own priorities screwed up.

Angelina Jolie isn’t just a pretty face for an ugly reality

A broken elbow kept Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from attending, a “bad hair day” was the joke about why emcee Anderson Cooper was replaced last minute by NBC’s Ann Curry, but we bet it didn’t matter to most in attendance at the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) event Thursday – the clear star of the panel was actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie.
Jolie, who has been working on helping displaced refugees since 2001, moved the crowd with her emotional speech at the National Geographic Museum in honor of World Refugee Day, serving as a model for other celeb-activists
“I am here today to talk about millions of desperate families, families so far out from civilization they don’t even know a day like this exists on their behalf,” she began her speech which she used as a chance to illustrate the real people behind the statistics.
The slim actress dressed head-to-toe in black looked as stunning in person as she does behind the camera, but it was easy to see her more the humanitarian on one of her 30 missions to Africa than the starlet and wife of Brad Pitt while she spoke with deep emotion (even tearing-up) while recalling her times with the “most impressive people” she has ever met.

A pregnant Afghani woman “taught [her] how to be a mother”…a little girl that survived in the jungle for two weeks with her brother “taught [her] how to be brave”… and a paralyzed boy victim to a gunshot wound in the back “taught [her] the strength of an unbreakable spirit.”–lessons she no doubt uses on her six young children, two of whom (Maddox and Pax) arrived with her last night and checked into the Hay Adams Hotel.
Jolie later cried listening to Humanitarian of the Year Award winner Rose Mapendo speak about her time in a Congolese prison (who admit to not knowing who Jolie was before meeting her that day, which broke the sadness in the room for a moment) and smiled and hugged the three student winners of the World Refugee Day Poster Contest.
- and your point is what? don’t you think she would’ve stop doing all of this humanitarian work for a long time if she doesn’t really care about others? and puhlease, she has been doing this back since she only had Mad and was still single so stop b itching about this being publicity.
And you people have the proof that this woman works at these charities, not just shows up for a photo op? I agree that success doesn’t have to come from a college degree. I live in New Orleans and you’d be surprised how much she was seen actually not helping after the hurricane. Seen in the bars? Maybe. But working hard for charity. Not so much. My family has given lots of money tp charities and I have been a volunteer all my life, not a spokes model. Hate on me if you’d like but there is a difference.

somebody’s effin JEALOUS because her wannabe idol can never be Jolie no matter how hard she tries. that is so sad. hahahaha.
AJ is spreading herself too thin and it’s aging her. She looks older than 34…. a prime reason for hating airbrushed mag covers. I think she wants to be seen as ‘the woman who has it all… and has done it all’, although I wont discount her charitable efforts. I just get the feeling that for some reason she’s super anxious to achieve certain things in the shortest amount of time, I wont speculate further.

I graduated from two universities in the US, but I still have to learn a lot of things from this lady. Agelina has more kowledge than many well educated people I have known in my professional life. She is admirable lady.
