Angelina Jolie: World Refugee Day Commemoration
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie joins the commemoration of World Refugee Day at the National Geographic Society on Thursday (June 18) in Washington, D.C.
According to UNHCR, this year’s theme for World Refugee Day on June 20 is “Real People, Real Needs.” Of the millions of people forcibly displaced by conflict, persecution and natural disasters, every one has a story to tell; they are real people, just like you and me, and they have real needs. But, despite the best efforts of UNHCR and many others, many of these basic needs are far from being met.

Michelle Obama, wears make-up, dresses in designer outfits to speak before the less fortunate crowd and harvesting her “organic garden”, has two beautiful children and a President for a husband; do you perceive that she doesn’t really care about the less fortunate or the garden and is only doing it to feel good too?

ROTFLMAO. Speaking as someone who works at a large university I can honestly say that a huge number of people with advanced degrees - Masters, PhDs, MDs, JDs, etc…are dumber than a box of rocks. These people are dialed into their little area of expertise and are otherwise clueless. I once worked for a department chair, the man had multiple PhDs…refused to use a computer because he said it was “stupid” and didn’t do things the way he wanted it to do. Does that sound intelligent to you? He couldn’t figure out the software…so there was something wrong with the computer…NOT HIM. He made his secretary read and respond to his e-mail…hell, his snailmail, too. And I’m talking private, confidential “For your eyes only” mail. It’s not like he’s not intelligent and, ahem, EDUCATED, but he was a complete idiot when it came to the computer. Ergo…it ain’t all about the education and the amount of time you spent in school and the number of degrees you possess. Stupidity comes in all forms. You, for instance, are a perfect example of that.

If she spent her time working at all the charities she supports then she wouldn’t be able to make the money she donates to the charities, would she? And what is wrong with her going to the bars at New Orleans? Obviously the decision makers for this organization thought her presence valuable hence invited her. You questioning her means you are questioning the sincerity of this organization as well.

And I could question your claim of donating loads of time and money to Katrina’s victims too.
My family has given lots of money tp charities and I have been a volunteer all my life, not a spokes model. Hate on me if you’d like but there is a difference.

Do you have any proof you’ve been a volunteer all your life and that your family has given lots of money to charities? lol. You see, that’s the difference between you and jolie. You’re angry and hating her because her works had been publicly recognized and yours isn’t. If you’re truly making a difference as you claimed to be, you wouldn’t be complaining that you do the same work but why she get’s to make the headlines and you don’t. Instead, you’d be happy because atleast, she is speaking in behalf of those people like you who wants make the world a better place, right? As much she wants to do humanitarian works and charity silently, i don’t think she has any choice. She is a very famous celebrity, everything she does is being documented and publicized. She is not unknown like you.
It’s funny how some trolls instantly became volunteers now and pretend to live in NOLA and makes up stupid rumors of bar sightings. What’s next? they’re the refugees and will rant that Jolie never visits the campsites?

if this whole dangerous trip to war torn places, donating millions and speaking on the refugees behalf isn’t enough to prove that she is sincere in her humanitarian work, then there is definitely wrong with you.
well, at the very least, she doesn’t just wear tshirts and pose for the camera and say, “hey, i’m wearing this tshirt for a cause, i’m such a good humanitarian, blah blah blah”
now that’s a BIG difference.

She has a huge heart and gives so much of herself to others who have and come from nothing. How can you hate on that?????? I like my celebs with more brains and interests than just acting or the ones who spend all their free time clubbing in LA or tanning and hanging with friends, they have no substance. And no I don’t believe a celeb should “give quietly”,what hogwash, celebs have the platform to make a difference, they should do all they can to make a difference to their causes and encourage others to give (as Americans love to follow celebs), if a celeb puts their name behind a charity, they should promote it, it’ s not showing off, it’s showing by example. Please to always “give quietly” is just another way of saying it’s a tax break for them, they wrote the cheque and filed it with their accountant, claimed it on their taxes and flew back to Mexico to get yet another orange tan.

Every time I look at this thread there are naysayers claiming she has some ulterior motive or seeking to negate her efforts on the behalf of the world’s refugees. Why? Because of failed relationships or superficiality? The humanitarian causes she or BP involve themselves with or support should not be tarnished by unresolved personal issues or opinions based on jealousy. If you feel that she is unworthy of recognition, why keep recognizing her? If in your opinion her causes are mere window dressing-don’t shop at her window. But, I don’t believe this to be your issue/s. I believe that you are just as fascinated and amazed as are her fans/supporters and are motivated by jealousy/envy. Your words are meant to be inflammatory because you seek for yourself the same adulation and support you claim she seeks to validate your own unfulfilled existence. Your efforts to undermine and divide are merely distractions from what is a beautiful opportunity for unity of purpose. Instead of sowing divisiveness offer alternative solutions/opportunities for the betterment of society and the world and you will obtain validation because this is not about who is/has been sleeping with whom or looks better naked or wears which outfit better. That is the venue of tabloids and fashion magazines. This is about how to acknowledge and resolve the VERY REAL issues of the disenfranchised. Put your animosity to the side because if you are not trying to be part of the solution-you are simply an unneccessary problem!

Thanks for all the great pixs, articles and videos. AJ is a beautiful woman, inside and out. AJ radiates with purpose and sincerity while shining a spotlight on Refugees world-wide. The program was very touching and inspiring. When I see what so many people have gone through and suffered, yet maintain such dignity and spirit, I am in awe and truly humbled.
