Angelina Jolie: World Refugee Day Commemoration
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie joins the commemoration of World Refugee Day at the National Geographic Society on Thursday (June 18) in Washington, D.C.
According to UNHCR, this year’s theme for World Refugee Day on June 20 is “Real People, Real Needs.” Of the millions of people forcibly displaced by conflict, persecution and natural disasters, every one has a story to tell; they are real people, just like you and me, and they have real needs. But, despite the best efforts of UNHCR and many others, many of these basic needs are far from being met.

In troll world no one likes AJ because she “stole” Brad Pitt and made tin foil girl cry, and is now just pretending to be involved with the UN and her other projects so people will like her and forget about her man theivery, so of course Hillary Clinton will undergo surgery so she can avoid breathing the same air as her. See makes perfect sense if you’re a troll.
Do some of these trolls understand some people just dont like the sight or smell of aniston, and it has nothing to do with her miserably failed marriage to her EX husband brad pitt,get over it.
She is a remarkable woman who does good for the forgotton masses. She is not injecting lard into her face fighting the natural aging process like some (not mentioning any names) Hollywood types. She doesn’t need to, as she is genetically gifted. What I like the most about her is that she lives her life and doesn’t give a flying leap about what any of us think, haters and fans alike. And most importantly, after a 4+ year PR assault (character assasination is more fitting) she emerges even more powerful! Now this is a role model for independent, strong minded women.
One thing that bugs me about her, is that she is always saying about peace etc. and than she goes and makes really violent movies. I don’t think promoting violence ig good for society. Sorry.

I was at 3B, but didn’t see any pix of the posters. The winners names were listed here as well, but I wanted to see the actual posters. But…nevermind. Someone on JJB captured part of the program where Angie presented the winners with their awards and their pix were projected on the screen for the audience to see.

Can somebody please explain to me what’s so terrible about Angie’s past. I just don’t understand it. I’m a fan for a very long time and know of her past, but don’t see anything that justifies that hatred. What terrible things did she do, that her past has to be brought up to justify the hate for a person that is giving, compassionate, loving, strong, intelligent and kind.
I just don’t get it. Maybe being exposed to all that negativity just numbed my brain.
She’s a saint.

You know what the main problem is? Angie didn’t lie about her past, try to hide it, apologize for it or express regrets over any of it. THAT’s what really chaps these losers asses. Angie lives her life on her terms and answers to no one. That’s fine if you’re a man, but unfortunately, even in this day and age, women are still held to a different standard and obviously Angie just doesn’t give a shite what these people think and keeps living her life her way. And that exacerbates their anger. They can’t control her and make her life by their rules and their beliefs. Therefore there must be something wrong with her. The way I put it to that annoying “Writing Roads” chick last week was, “Angie is an iconoclast.” Trolls will undoubtedly need to look the word up, so let me help them out…

I just wish that one of these trolls/haters/nuisances would have the balls to say that “Yes I hate Angelina because I believe she stole Brad Pitt from Jennifer Aniston and that pissed me off”. I would actually respect that because it’s honest. It means you are here on this site and others trashing AJ because you feel somehow that she wronged someone and you must tell the world how even if she cures cancer, Angelina still did a reprehensible thing and must be punished for it. I get that. It would explain all the ludicrous arguments and at least give credence to “forgive, but not forget”. However what I read continuously is very personal, bitter vitriol based on no real evidence, just conjecture. It’s easy to believe that Angie only does good things to hide her past if you forget that she started her work with the UNHCR long before Brad or Jennifer ever entered her life or that she went to Cambodia a full year and change before she even adopted Maddox. This is a human being who went and saw the horrors of our world and had it significantly change her. She’s been heavily involved ever since. So please stop pretending that you would hate her regardless of her relationship with BP. Stop pretending that you bring up her past because it showcases that she couldn’t possibly be a changed person. Please stop pretending that you point out physical flaws because it highlights how less attractive she is compared to other actresses. Stop acting as if your constant attacks on any and everything she does comes from any other place then sour grapes over the ending of what some of you saw as Hollywood’s version of ‘Camelot’. The funny thing is, I actually like J.A., and hate that there are some posters on pretty much every celeb board who have to trash her in order to defend Angie, but I must admit that if you read Angie detractors posts they all ring of people who only started to truly dislike her after she and Brad became a couple. I know there are those who will say her relationship with BP has nothing to do with their hatred, but I don’t buy it. Not most of it anyway. There is a slim minority who could make the case and make it plausible to believe. Not most on this and a few other popular celeb sites. They don’t even come close. It’s so obvious as to be ridiculous. So I ask again please just be honest. Us Angie lovers aren’t going to be swayed regardless but it would at least make you seem less preposterous with your arguments against her.
I agree with all the positive comments about her. She finds time to help others and that’s what matters.
Vicky darling, please try to understand that you go to the movies to be entertained and you don’t take things seriously. However, in the “real” world, you have to live your life. Hopefully, try to do something good in life, be good to other human beings and contribute to society. Again, movies and real life are two different things and please know the difference.

Per the article in “Peolpe Mag.” the commemoration of World Refugee Day at the National Geographic Society, was a VERY emotional for all in attendance …. hence, the look on Ms. Jolie’s face.
Keep in mind, this is a SERIOUS event/topic … not a movie premere that calls for her to be all dolled up.
Many were moved to tears like Ms. Jolie.
To: LEONI post #95. I worked for a UN agency and have many friends at UNHCR. Those who’ve met Angelina in the field have raved at how kind, interested and informed she is. She is one of the few UN ambassadors who pays for ALL her own expenses when on a field mission (incl. transportation) and she really engages with the refugees, UN staff and NGO partners in the field. She is absolutely down-to-earth. She makes no demands on anyone. She asks intelligent questions and absolutely does followup once she leaves a field site. As for her work in NOLA, I’ve never read an interview where she claimed to participate in any “charity” work there in addition to the substantional monetary contributions she has made.
