Angelina Jolie: World Refugee Day Commemoration

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie joins the commemoration of World Refugee Day at the National Geographic Society on Thursday (June 18) in Washington, D.C.

According to UNHCR, this year’s theme for World Refugee Day on June 20 is “Real People, Real Needs.” Of the millions of people forcibly displaced by conflict, persecution and natural disasters, every one has a story to tell; they are real people, just like you and me, and they have real needs. But, despite the best efforts of UNHCR and many others, many of these basic needs are far from being met.

Find out how you can help at UNHCR.org. 10+ pics inside…

Love Angie.

I love this woman more and more every day! What are people expecting her to look like? not like it’s a movie premiere or the red carpet..geez

ah well can’t please everyone. Her true fans support and love her and that’s all that matters

THANK YOU @ 06/18/2009 at 6:31 pm

I guess angie and the kids are leaving tomorrow per people magazine.

The hatred directed at Angelina comes from narrow-minded bigoted people. Angie is beautiful but has an exotic look from certain angles, plus she adopted Asian and an African child. Unfortunately there are people who dislike her for those reasons. And they will find fault with everything she does and everything about her. But there are more people out here who are not blinded by hate and see Angelinga for the good, kind-hearted person she is.

Angie’s past is probably less wild than many, many other celebrities. But look at all she has done since 2000. None of these things she had to do to get good PR. Angie had a solid fan base since the late ’90’s. She had nothing to prove or hid. She does humanitarian deeds because she wants to be of service. She gets PR just by herself. She could stay in Hollywood and get all the PR she wants. But she extends herself because she wants to help others. That is very obvious and takes hard work, big heart, courage, commitment, sacrifice and a non-lazy person. If someone refuses to see this obvious fact, then that person is filled with hatred and prejudice. If someone keeps throwing out the Brad divorce as to why they hate Angelina, again they are really being ruled by their hatred for people who do not look like them.

very well said

Can you believe that some are talking about looks when she is trying to show that people are going to DIE cause that lack BASIC necessities.

However, since some mentioned her face… she has one of those faces that seem to change… never the same…one day you wonder what the fuss is about and the next day you totally get it (and not because of makeup) Her face is not just beautiful it is an INTERESTING face.
And, she does not look old as some are saying, she looks a bit tired and her face is not as round as in her youth BUT still it is incomparable. How many faces are used as a benchmark????
I am just as bad as the rest of you who are talking about this!!!!!

@there’sone thing i can say—-so what’s wrong with wearing your clothes over and over again.I wear my uniform over and over again.Same with my uniform shoes. Is there something wrong with it? You must be BRAINLESS,at a time when a lot of people are losing their job,you criticize people for doing that? Get a life will you!!!

All the haters are just bitter and jealous that their idol can never command the respect and admiration Angie receives from around the world. On such an important occassion, trolls and ugly fans of jen ho can only focus on looks, the millions of people displaced and suffering is of no importance to them, but what do you expect from people who warship Hw No 1 VAIN sitcom actress, botoxed face, fake eye colour, fake blond hair and fake tan. Angie may be a lot of things but you can never call her vain, shallow, unexciting or lacking in confidence. She is young, strong, smart, confidence, engaging, exciting, inspiring, beautiful inside and out with KIND heart, all the things maniston can never be in our life time.

Oops posted it twice, I was trying to edit my first post.

That’s our Angie. She is without a doubt incomparable. Just keep doing good in the world Angie and it will comeback to you in spades. This is so great and she is such a loving woman a Giver not a Taker.

Who cares what the haters say a bunch of unpaid trolls losers working on their next rag stories.

@lostchick:

Do you have to be in college to have the brain? Consider William Faulkner, who I believe did not finish high school, but is one of the best writers in the world.

You can be in college and still look ignorant and stupid…

Who cares what this hag freak supports.

Can somebody please explain to me what’s so terrible about Angie’s past. I just don’t understand it. I’m a fan for a very long time and know of her past, but don’t see anything that justifies that hatred. What terrible things did she do, that her past has to be brought up to justify the hate for a person that is giving, compassionate, loving, strong, intelligent and kind.
I just don’t get it. Maybe being exposed to all that negativity just numbed my brain.
.
###################
You are absilutely right. Angelina did nothing horrible in her past. I have never heard anything about her hurting others or doing anything really that out there.
.
If you are a simple minded person used to a vanilla and rather mundane life then anything out of the ordinary seems bad. Angelina is anything but vanilla.
.
These same people are the same ones who never achieve much because they think bold and daring, is once again, bad.
These are mental descendants of the witch hunters.

She made way more than just one violent movie. There is enough violence in the world. Why does she have to keep showing our youth violence, over and over again.

She could do movies that are HOPEFULL and inspire people.

Angie’s past is probably less wild than many, many other celebrities.

that’s very true.

Angelina Jolie isn’t just a pretty face for an ugly reality

A broken elbow kept Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from attending, a “bad hair day” was the joke about why emcee Anderson Cooper was replaced last minute by NBC’s Ann Curry, but we bet it didn’t matter to most in attendance at the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) event Thursday – the clear star of the panel was actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie.

Jolie, who has been working on helping displaced refugees since 2001, moved the crowd with her emotional speech at the National Geographic Museum in honor of World Refugee Day, serving as a model for other celeb-activists

“I am here today to talk about millions of desperate families, families so far out from civilization they don’t even know a day like this exists on their behalf,” she began her speech which she used as a chance to illustrate the real people behind the statistics.

The slim actress dressed head-to-toe in black looked as stunning in person as she does behind the camera, but it was easy to see her more the humanitarian on one of her 30 missions to Africa than the starlet and wife of Brad Pitt while she spoke with deep emotion (even tearing-up) while recalling her times with the “most impressive people” she has ever met.

A pregnant Afghani woman “taught [her] how to be a mother”…a little girl that survived in the jungle for two weeks with her brother “taught [her] how to be brave”… and a paralyzed boy victim to a gunshot wound in the back “taught [her] the strength of an unbreakable spirit.”–lessons she no doubt uses on her six young children, two of whom (Maddox and Pax) arrived with her last night and checked into the Hay Adams Hotel.

Jolie later cried listening to Humanitarian of the Year Award winner Rose Mapendo speak about her time in a Congolese prison (who admit to not knowing who Jolie was before meeting her that day, which broke the sadness in the room for a moment) and smiled and hugged the three student winners of the World Refugee Day Poster Contest.

To curious, sally, dee, noelle, and any of you shallow, superficial hags I left out:
.
This woman is doing a promo for a cause she believes in. She is not posing for a photoshoot. She doesn’t give a damn if she looks old, tired, or whatever. She knows it’s not about her; it’s about the refugee cause she is championing.
.
You hags have got to be the shallowest, stupidest, most idiotic specimens of humanity I have ever had the misfortune to come across. You’re fixated on looks to the point where you can’t see anything else. You post the same sh*t on the Aniston threads: “Oooh, Jen’s so hot!” “She’s got such a great body!” “She’s got such great hair!” Never a word out of any of you about her talents, her abilities, etc. You make her look as shallow and pathetic as you are.
.
And you come on here and question Angie’s intelligence? You freaks have a collective IQ of about 45.

# 140 Passing Through @ 06/18/2009 at 5:56 pm

You are right. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. I partied hard and enjoyed my youth. Yet I also worked hard, and I matured and grew up and my priorities changed. I’m not ashamed for what I did in the past. It made me the person I am. My so called wild period lasted a lot longer than Angie’s. A whole 10 years and looking back, I don’t want to miss anything. I have no regrets. I guess that puts me in the same category as Angie and that makes me very proud as a matter of fact. I’m very proud being a fan of Angie.

sienna @ 06/18/2009 at 3:46 pm @jewel:

And she definitely cares about how she looks:
I don’t know looking at this pictures makes me feel like more than she cares for others, she is just doing it for herself, to feel good about hersef and to show “hey people, I am great, I am beautiful and sexy despite 6 kids, I have a super handsome partner and great family, I am helping others. I can dooo it all.. Am I not just the greatest and the coolest?”
——————————
You said it, not Angie. You just listed all the things that makes you feel inferior and insignificant where Angie is concerned, this is why you are so jealous of her. It is not her fault you feel worthless but you’re right, she is great, sexy, have 6 gorgeous children, a handsome partner and great family. Yes, she can do it all but it is not her fault you can’t? Get your fat lazy ass off the couch and try a little harder and work those dimples on your enormous thights and may be, I say may be, you can be a little sexy and find a man willing to stay with you for more than one night.

Not impressed by JA @ 06/18/2009 at 7:21 pm

The PR card is laughable when you know that before that she was with BBT one of the favourite product or publicity hundry media So why change the formula ?
.
Angelina Jolie began charity at 24 and was appointed Goodwill Ambassador at 25. She even went to Irak refuge camp pledging for their plight at a time when nobody care around 9/11. She could have had all the publicity some people crave for by staying with BBT instead.
.
The claim that she is now doing it for publicity is a new song that started in 2005. Before that she did 5 years of humanitarian work without anyone talking EVER about publicity stunt.
.
We all know why that accusation is out there !
