OlderAngelina Jolie: Refugees Give Me New Appreciation For Life
Angelina Jolie appreciates life a whole lot more now thanks to the world’s refugees. Here’s what the 34-year-old actress told Today Show’s Ann Curry:
On her childhood being much different if she’d grown up knowing what she has learned as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador: “I think it would have got me through my youth easier. I would have been less self-destructive… You see people that have suffered things that you will never, ever know. And you know how lucky you are.”
On making sure her children grow up knowing refugee children: “I want them to see it as an area where they can go down the street and play football with those kids and get to know them, and as they grow up seem them as those friends they spent time with. Hopefully I can raise them with a more accurate view of the world than I was raised with, maybe they’ll naturally be better people. And I’m sure my children will be visiting and learning from refugees in the future.”
On agreeing with Brad Pitt that this is one of the happiest times of her life: “I am extememly happy in my life. My children are healthy and it’s one of the most extraordinary times in my life and I’m able to do good things and good work.”
On being the “next Audrey Hepburn”: “I’m lucky to be in this. And I’m sure Audrey Hepburn felt the same. That she was the fortunate one to be able to meet all those kids around the world. You know, we’re just in a very fortunate situation that we get to be able to give a voice to these extraordinary people.”
On having birthday celebrations year-round: “I do have the twins, and I just had Shi in May. We have so many kids that we just have year-round birthdays. It’s a lot of fun now ’cause the older kids are old enough to help plan the birthdays for the younger kids. So it’s one of the great pleasures of life, the birthdays.” (This quote was actually from her speech at the National Geographic Society.)

Though I will say I do believe she’s trying to make a difference with the refugee situation. I believe she should sell half of her homes and donate the majority of her money towards refugee camps. 1 million just isn’t enough : [ when you compare ti to her ridiculous wealth.
For such a force, Angie always comes across as ladylike and gentle. She certainly got the job done, like she always does, in a stellar manner. Her children are going to be very proud of their mother once they reach the age of understanding What a superior legacy she will bless their lives with.

And I want to thank and acknowledge Angelina Jolie for her tireless efforts as Goodwill Ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She has done fabulous work to help increase international attention to the needs of refugees and other persons of concern to UNHCR, thereby providing a voice to those whose plight often goes unheard.
World Refugee Day is an opportunity to reflect on the lives of millions of refugees who have been forced to flee tyranny and conflict. It is also a time to honor their courage and resilience, and to recognize the contribution of those who have been able to return to their communities or have sought new lives in their country of refuge or resettled in a third country.
The theme of this year’s World Refugee Day is “Real People, Real Needs,” and the posters of three young people here today tell the story better than I can.
@there’s one thing i can say: It makes perfect sense. They were taken by a photographer, not creepy paparazzi. If it wasn’t that day, picture of the kids would be taken on another occasion by paparazzi, for free. Why not at least make the best of the situation and sell them for money?

Such a beautiful person inside and out. She’s so passionate about this and thank goodness the most famous woman gives these people a voice. I still can’t believe people are all over her when she’s lost a little weight when she does these amazing things.
I see that Oprah has a thread about her school. I am sure that all the critics here are going to go there and call Oprah out on the fact that when the school was built she was going to build a home there so that she could be close to the girls. I’m sure they are going to call her out on the fact that while she has billions of dollars she does not live in a shack. She lives in multi million dollar homes. They must be on their way to post a comment on the fact that Oprah has asked her viewers to contribute to charites and causes even though if she gave away all her money it could feed and shelter millions.. Again they must be on their way to state that Oprah sleeps on expensive sheets while the families of the girls she funds an education for sleep in some cases on dirt floors.. I gather that they will also say that Oprah and other like Bill Gates and other billion and millionairs give to worthy causes yet still do not feel guilty about being able to provide a life for their families..
Oh wait I forgot .. Angelina and Brad are the only ones expected to live in a hut and not provide a good life for their kids.. MY Bad….

there people that have 10 times more money than angie do you see them selling half of their homes and donate it to charities. even oprah didn’t donate 1/3 of her salary.
ET was talking about X with Bradley Cooper ( is that his name?), she wants to advertise her new movie & what a way to do it, make sure she dates her co-star, then he will dump her after the movie bombed. He is way too good looking for her, desperate woman do desperate thing.
Angie is doing humanitarian work while X is doing nothing to help the refugees. See the difference between X & Angelina? Good that Brad woke up from his nightmare ( X) & found Angie & fell in love with her.

@luvd80s2: I agree with you. There is really alot of dumb a$$ stupid people on this site. Before anyone of you critize her, why don’t you ask yourself when was the last time I did something to help someone else beside myself. She’s using here celebrity status to lend a voice to people who cannot be heard.
She’s not running around hopping from club to club, out shopping buying designer clothes and parading around fake boyfriends for movie promotions….these are the shallow mindless, shelfish people some of you look up to and admire. Kudos to Angie and Brad for doing good in this world
