OlderAngelina Jolie: Refugees Give Me New Appreciation For Life
Angelina Jolie appreciates life a whole lot more now thanks to the world’s refugees. Here’s what the 34-year-old actress told Today Show’s Ann Curry:
On her childhood being much different if she’d grown up knowing what she has learned as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador: “I think it would have got me through my youth easier. I would have been less self-destructive… You see people that have suffered things that you will never, ever know. And you know how lucky you are.”
On making sure her children grow up knowing refugee children: “I want them to see it as an area where they can go down the street and play football with those kids and get to know them, and as they grow up seem them as those friends they spent time with. Hopefully I can raise them with a more accurate view of the world than I was raised with, maybe they’ll naturally be better people. And I’m sure my children will be visiting and learning from refugees in the future.”
On agreeing with Brad Pitt that this is one of the happiest times of her life: “I am extememly happy in my life. My children are healthy and it’s one of the most extraordinary times in my life and I’m able to do good things and good work.”
On being the “next Audrey Hepburn”: “I’m lucky to be in this. And I’m sure Audrey Hepburn felt the same. That she was the fortunate one to be able to meet all those kids around the world. You know, we’re just in a very fortunate situation that we get to be able to give a voice to these extraordinary people.”
On having birthday celebrations year-round: “I do have the twins, and I just had Shi in May. We have so many kids that we just have year-round birthdays. It’s a lot of fun now ’cause the older kids are old enough to help plan the birthdays for the younger kids. So it’s one of the great pleasures of life, the birthdays.” (This quote was actually from her speech at the National Geographic Society.)

She’s so honest and down to earth and it’s rare to find those people in Hollywood. I love her, she’s such a huge inspiration for me.

She is a mother, and she has to provide for them too. she is of high status, therefore she needs to protect her family and herself too. she needs to wear clothes too people. would you rather she doesnt wear anythign???
practice what you preach! im sure most of us has donated to a cause before. did we have to sell our house and give half the profit? i’m sure that it would be a very hard decision for anyone to do that. if that’s the case, should we ask Bill Gates, or Oprah, these billionaires to donate everything they have.
i remember my grandfather saying “you offer your hand, and yet they demand doe your limbs too.” it is so sad that there are too many people who are self centered and unappreciative.
the reason why she was starving herself before was becuase she was so trouble with the fact of how these displaced people are. She felt guilty eating when other people couldnt. i felt the same way, i grew up in a third world country. when i came in the US to help my family back home, i only ate what i knew they ate, but my mother told me i cannot sacrifice like that… i have to make myself healthy in order to survive and in turn, help those who needs help.
there are some comments here from people that are just really ridiculous. with opinions like these, it just might lead to the downfall of our civilization.

I think she’s a fabulous Actress but you are entitled to your opinion. I happen to think Brad pitt is overrated but I can see that many of his fans are upset because Angelina OBVIOUSLY did not want to talk about the old faaart! good for her. she doesn’t need him.
I’m happy to see that some of you realize that Angelina is part of a community that is trying to bring atention to not so pretty situations going on around the world.
Her involvement also helps Americans try to see outside America which is a very hard thing to do Americans seeing themselves as part of a world community is still hard for some as you can tell by some posts.
Angelina is part of a larger group and is not in compeition with anyone. Angelina matters as does high profilers like Oprah as does the doctors without borders, as do citizen journalists as do t shirt selling college stundents, as do the regular joe or joanne who are working in their own communites trying to make a positive difference without fanfare. It’s all the same thing.
I don’t believe some of you trolls who complaian that you do work quietly yet complain about Jolie. If you are really doing charity work you would see her as an ally with a shared compassion and not someone to dismiss, especially since she has been committed on this cause for a while and works for it. Her awareness is a win win for anyone helping those less fortunate.

…She doesn’t proclaim to be some ’special’ person, but contends that anyone would want to help these refugees if they had the means and the opportunity to do so. Instead of hawking perfumes, or shampoos, or being on the cover of EVERY legitimate fashion magazine (which she is able to do if she made herself available to them), she is very humbly drawing your attention to important issues that affect our world.

The refugees she’s talking about are the ones who are vulnerable to being recruited by terrorist organizations. If we don’t help them that gives others the opportunity to involve these adults and children in immoral activities in exchange for their lives. MY ADMIRATION GROWS FOR ANGIE EVERY YEAR. I’M SO PROUD OF HER!…and proud to be a fan of someone so empathetic and intelligent, as well as talented.

Anderson Cooper from Anderson Cooper 360 asked the 34-year-old Changeling actress if she and Pitt will have more kids… Angie said:

Though I will say I do believe she’s trying to make a difference with the refugee situation. I believe she should sell half of her homes and donate the majority of her money towards refugee camps. 1 million just isn’t enough

Please explain to us, 100 words or less, how Angie could be at the “happiest time of her life” WITHOUT the father of her six children and WITH her six children brokenhearted and miserable because their father is no longer in their lives every day. The JP’s give all year round. Pitt and fam just gave a million dollars to a hospital in Springfield Mo I believe. It will allow parents who currently have to travel to St. Louis or Kansas City or farther to take their ill kids there.
The JP’s give to all sorts of causes and the charities/foundations they set up for their adopted kids.
Just because today they gave one million to the pakastani refugees doesn’t mean they didn’t give to something yesterday and they won’t give to something tomorrow.
They have an expensive life style. So what? I’d say they have both earned it. That doesn’t make any sense. BC isn’t in X’s new movie. Maybe they were saying dating a FORMER co-star while she’s got a new movie to promote. Which is basically what I said earlier, so I wish ET would quit stealing my schtick. The funny thing is - now more and more people are calling X on her BS. They used to skirt the truth and slant stories to make her look sympathetic. Now people are starting to act like, “Enough of of the victim shite. You’re 40 1/2. Move on already!”
