They support the ONE Campaign, aimed to fight AIDS and poverty in Third World countries. Pitt created the Make it Right Foundation which gathered a group of housing professionals in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, with the object of financing and constructing 150 new houses in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward. Pitt and Jolie’s combined philanthropic efforts have brought awareness to many important issues and causes around the world.

Why oh why is he acting like he doesn’t like them following him. He does this all the time. He has that in common with his ex. All the attention Jolie has gotten these past weeks he has to do something.
Everyone in LA knows when he’s here. He conviently races around town on one of his bikes. Trying to be cool and act like he’s 25. It is mighty strange that when AJ is here in LA she is mostly not seen. He knows the paps look for him on a bike and he rides thru town on one for them to see him and then acts as if he doesn’t want them to follow. Now if was me I would be in a car with tinted windows if I didn’t want to be seen. If I wanted to ride my bike I have an entire estate make that 2 or all the highway in the world to let the wind blow thru my hair and be at peace. He is indeed a poser. I also tend to wonder what is really going on with Mickey B and why BP fired him in the first place. He has one hell of a beef with Pitt.

This is too freaky. I have been a fan of Gibran for almost four decades and just yesterday I was talking to a co-worker about letting kids go and I quoted from the Prophet on Children in that they ‘come thru you but they are the future and you are the past.’……..I have often thought of the health of the JP’s relationship in terms of KG’s views on marriage.

There are so many wonderful things that Angie does that do not get publicized.

Liz is the 26 year old wife of David Flowers, who was wounded when he stepped on a landmine in Afghanistan on May 11. He is currently being treated at Walter Reed in DC.

Liz has a blog. She has a post that describes one of the many things that Angie did while she was in DC this week.

I slept in while Mom and Granny spent time with Dave. He had PT at 1:30 and right before he scooted off one of the nurses told him to wait that a “distinguished guest” was about to arrive. It was Angelina Jolie! She spent about 20 minutes talking with Dave and taking pictures! Then after she left the liaison came around and handed out gift bags signed by her with a gift card to Best Buy worth $1,000!

Paramount shakes up management

The studio ousts John Lesher and Brad Weston, its two top production executives, and puts Adam Goodman in charge of production.

Paramount Pictures, shaking up its management ranks, ousted its two top production executives Friday, signaling unhappiness with the pace of development and performance of movies developed under their watch, including the current Eddie Murphy bomb “Imagine That.”

The abruptness of the firings of Paramount Film Group President John Lesher and production President Brad Weston late Friday apparently took both executives by surprise, although speculation about their status at the studio had been mounting in Hollywood for months. Both Lesher, who had just signed a new four-year deal in January of last year, and Weston, who joined the studio in 2005, have been offered production deals at the studio.

Stepping into the chief production role is Adam Goodman, who has been one of the three senior creative executives at Paramount alongside Lesher and Weston. Goodman, a former DreamWorks executive, oversaw the recent hits “Hotel for Dogs” and “I Love You, Man.”

Although Paramount has been ranked No. 2 in U.S. box office market share for nearly two years, most of its hits were not developed internally.

Instead, Paramount’s biggest films, including DreamWorks’ “Transformers” and Marvel Studio’s “Iron Man,” came from other suppliers.

The paucity of internally generated projects under Lesher and Weston, who were appointed 18 months ago to rev up production after the studio lost its chief provider of films, DreamWorks, contributed to the dissatisfaction of their bosses, studio Chairman Brad Grey and Vice Chairman Rob Moore, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Friday’s executive upheaval continues the management instability that has plagued the Viacom Inc.-owned studio under Grey and Moore’s watch over the last several years. There’s been a parade of top executive departures since Grey took the reins in 2005, including his first hire, Gail Berman, who was president of the studio.

Paramount confirmed Friday that it had “revamped” its production executive team, putting Goodman in charge and reporting to Grey.

In an interview, Moore said, “Both at DreamWorks and Paramount, Adam Goodman has had experience managing a production slate including family and tent-pole movies,” among which is next week’s sequel, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

“We felt he was the best single person to manage this going forward,” Moore said.

Over the last 12 months, Paramount had developed only five movies. One of them, director J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek,” was a blockbuster, and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” turned a small profit. But the three others, “The Love Guru,” “Dance Flick” and “Imagine That,” all flopped.

Lesher, who before joining Paramount had spent two decades as a top agent, made a big splash when he first came to Paramount and was put in charge of the studio’s struggling specialty film label. The unit’s first releases were the critically acclaimed “Babel,” starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, and the highly profitable “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore’s documentary about global warming.

Lesher also oversaw the Oscar-winning hit “No Country for Old Men,” but after the division lost money on such films as “A Mighty Heart,” “Margot at the Wedding” and “The Dutchess,” its operations were folded into Paramount.

Goodman, formerly production president at DreamWorks, came to Grey’s attention after Viacom acquired DreamWorks in early 2006. After DreamWorks founder Steven Spielberg left Paramount in November 2008, Grey brought Goodman over to the bigger studio.

Brad Pitt Coming to the Valley

Moneyball is an adaptation of the best-selling book that chronicles Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A’s. That’s who Pitt is playing.

Several scenes will be shot at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, the A’s spring training field. The rest of the movie is due to be shot in Oakland. Production is expected to send trucks starting Saturday.

Nobody’s confirmed whether Pitt will definitely be there.

Brad Pitt sneaks in motorcycle ride with the world watching

Its not an unusual scenario.

The wife and kids are away on a little getaway giving a perfect opportunity to sneak in a little saddle time and take a quick motorcycle ride.

Nothing to make headlines or have a riders picture appear in the gossip columns, unless you happen to be Brad Pitt and your other half is Angelina Jolie touring the country to talk about World Refugee Day.

What should have been a quiet ride on a favorite motorcycle turned into a paparazzi-fest of photos of Brad Pitt when the star went for a ride on Thursday around Los Angeles.

Pitt’s favored motorcycle while in Europe tends to be a Ducati and as seen in the most recent pictures, its a custom chopper for his time in the United States.

Although not much is known about Brad Pitt’s motorcycle collection, he has been seen on at least three different bobber-style custom bikes. He is also a fan of performance racing, taking his young son to a MotoGP race while vacationing in Italy last year.

Interestingly, aside from worldwide attention and photograph chasing paparazzi, the recent ride by Brad could be considered pretty typical. Apparently starting with a light leather jacket, it was soon abandoned as the day warmed up.

Today, June 20, is World Refugee Day. In most years, most of us may not have thought much about it. This year, we cannot afford to ignore it.

Hollywood power-couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who are also UNHCR goodwill ambassadors and longtime friends of humanitarian causes worldwide, including in Pakistan, just announced a US$ 1 million donation to assist displaced Pakistanis.
As Pakistanis we thank them for this generous gesture. As Pakistanis let us also view this as a reminder of our own responsibilities to reach out to and assist our own.

Readers at ATP have already been extremely generous in this regards. In our last campaign (last month) readers raised US$ 4,780 from direct donations. On our part, we had added another US$ 2,220 to that to make it a round US$7,000 (Pak Rs. 560,000). Of this, two tranches of donation were already given - to the Edhi group in Pakistan and directly to UNHCR. A third tranche is now being sent - again, evenly distribted between the Edhi group and UNHCR. This means that the funds donated till now have been evenly given to these two.

We are starting a short campaign again today (we will keep this open for only a few days) and hope that our readers will again show their generous spirit to whatever extent that can. We remain committed to add to whatever is raised from our own advertising revenue. As before, it does not matter how much you can give, what you give, how you give, or even where you give - if you find our widget useful give here, if you can give directly to the many many worthy organizations that are doing extremely good work. But do please remember to give. These IDPs (internally displaced people) are Pakistanis who were at the frontline of a battle that all of us are fighting. Pakistan has been at the epicenter of the global refugee crisis for decades now. And with over 2 million Pakistanis displaced in their own country becasue of the havoc wrecked in the Swat region, the global refugee crisis is even more local to Pakistan than it has been before.

Thank you, for reminding all of us - Pakistani or not - that this is a human crisis before it is a national crisis. Today, June 20, is World Refugee Day. In most years, most of us may not have thought much about it. This year, we cannot afford to ignore it.

Hollywood power-couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who are also UNHCR goodwill ambassadors and longtime friends of humanitarian causes worldwide, including in Pakistan, just announced a US$ 1 million donation to assist displaced Pakistanis.

As Pakistanis we thank them for this generous gesture. As Pakistanis let us also view this as a reminder of our own responsibilities to reach out to and assist our own.

Readers at ATP have already been extremely generous in this regards. In our last campaign (last month) readers raised US$ 4,780 from direct donations. On our part, we had added another US$ 2,220 to that to make it a round US$7,000 (Pak Rs. 560,000). Of this, two tranches of donation were already given - to the Edhi group in Pakistan and directly to UNHCR. A third tranche is now being sent - again, evenly distribted between the Edhi group and UNHCR. This means that the funds donated till now have been evenly given to these two.

We are starting a short campaign again today (we will keep this open for only a few days) and hope that our readers will again show their generous spirit to whatever extent that can. We remain committed to add to whatever is raised from our own advertising revenue. As before, it does not matter how much you can give, what you give, how you give, or even where you give - if you find our widget useful give here, if you can give directly to the many many worthy organizations that are doing extremely good work. But do please remember to give. These IDPs (internally displaced people) are Pakistanis who were at the frontline of a battle that all of us are fighting. Their sacrifices are for all of us, and we all must demonstrate this in whatever way we can.

Pakistan has been at the epicenter of the global refugee crisis for decades now. And with over 2 million Pakistanis displaced in their own country becasue of the havoc wrecked in the Swat region, the global refugee crisis is even more local to Pakistan than it has been before.

Thank you, Angelina Jolie. For keeping this issue alive in the international media. Thank you, for making your donation at the right time - a time when attention had just begun to be diverted. Thank you, for reminding all of us - Pakistani or not - that this is a human crisis before it is a national crisis. Although this story didn’t go into it, technically they’ve got another ace-in-the-hole. It’s the new Halloween movie. I like Nikki Finke’s site because she’s a straight shooter. She wrote a story last week - that I posted the link to here - about how the Weinsteins are dead ass broke and Universal, the foreign distributor for IB, is afraid that the Weinsteins don’t have the $30MIL marketing money for IB that they promised they’d have on hand to do a big push for IB. Uni is afraid they’re going to have wind up footing the bill. Finke went on to say that the info she was getting was that Fat and Fatter were cancelling other movie premieres between now and Aug 21 so they have the $30MIL for marketing IB, plus the $20MIL they need for the Halloween Part 9,476 that’s set for Aug 28. If those two movies make as much at the BO as they anticipate, then the Fat Boys think they’ll be able to right their ship. Finke said her sources where saying they think Gross and Grosser are overcooked no matter who much money IB makes.

Pakistanis are writing reams to thank Hollywood power couple Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt for donating a million dollars to assist people displaced by the military operations against the Taliban in the country’s northwest.
The celebrity couple made the donation through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which they established to assist in humanitarian crises around the world.

“As Pakistanis we thank them for this generous gesture. As Pakistanis let us also view this as a reminder of our own responsibilities to reach out to and assist our own,” wrote Adil Najam on his website All Things Pakistan.

“Thank you, Angelina Jolie. For keeping this issue alive in the international media. Thank you, for making your donation at the right time - a time when attention had just begun to be diverted. Thank you, for reminding all of us - Pakistani or not - that this is a human crisis before it is a national crisis,” he said.

‘Other Pakistan’, another popular website, decided to confer the ‘Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Pakistan’s Angel)’ on Jolie.

The donation, for supposedly the most challenging humanitarian crisis of the past decade, is being discussed at other social networking sites too.

“Thank you for caring, understanding and supporting the displaced people of Swat Valley, Pakistan. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Zindabad!” wrote Shahid Mashedy on looktothestars.com.

But a handful of Pakistanis have dismissed Brangelina’s donation as a public relations stunt. “I am kind of surprised by this post. Thank you they are bombing us, trying to break the country they give you one million dollars and you have no minds or self-respect,” wrote Wasim Arif.

A blogger named Ali jumped to Brangelina’s defence.

“I admire this woman for not just her talents but also being aware of refugee problems, making them her cause in life and not picking Hollywood/Western-favorite PR causes like freeing Tibet or feeding the hungry in Africa,” he wrote.

Columbia Pictures has dropped the ball on “Moneyball,” the Steven Soderbergh-directed Brad Pitt-starrer that was supposed to begin production Monday in Phoenix.

On Friday, Columbia Pictures topper Amy Pascal placed the picture into “limited turnaround,” giving the filmmaker the chance to set it up at another studio, with Warner Bros. and Paramount the prime targets.

The move came after Pascal read the final draft delivered last week by Steve Zaillian and Steven Soderbergh and found it very different from the earlier scripts she championed. Pascal was uncomfortable enough with how Steven Soderbergh’s vision had changed that she applied the brakes.

Soderbergh and Pitt’s CAA reps spent the weekend attempting to get another studio to play ball in a game that will play out until Monday. If a new financier doesn’t emerge by tomorrow, Columbia will re-examine options that include replacing Soderbergh (and hoping that Pitt doesn’t ankle), delaying the film until she and the filmmaker find themselves in synch on the script, or pulling the plug.

Even in the climate of heightened studio caution, the turnaround news on “Moneyball” is surprising, given that had reached the equivalent of third base. The picture was just 96 hours before the participants were ready to take the field, following three months of prep and with camera tests completed and cast and budget in place.

Pascal’s wariness is hardly unfathomable, even though the script was approved by Major League Baseball. The film doesn’t follow the traditional narrative structure of most sports yarns. “Moneyball” is based on the bestselling Michael Lewis book about Billy Beane (Pitt), the former phenom who undermined his playing career by taking a big paycheck before he was ready, who resurfaced as Oakland A’s general manager who found success fielding competitive teams for low cost, compared to the payrolls of league rivals like the New York Yankees.

Aside from actors like Pitt and Demetri Martin, Soderbergh is using real ballplayers–like former A’s Scott Hatteberg and David Justice–as actors, he has also shot interviews with ballplayers like Beane’s former Mets teammates Lenny Dykstra, Mookie Wilson and Daryl Strawberry. Those vignettes are interspersed in the film in a style comparable to director Warren Beatty’s used of “witnesses” in his celebrated film “Reds.”

While Soderbergh is confident his take will work visually, Columbia brass had doubts on a film that costs north of $50 million. That is reasonable for a studio-funded pic that includes the discounted salary of a global star like Pitt, but baseball films traditionally don’t fare well on the global playing field.

Pitt dropped out of “State of Play” just before that picture was to begin production, when he read the studio-approved shooting script that veered too far from the draft that prompted him to sign on. Not surprise. With some movie studios losing money they are becoming more and more careful. Soderbergh having mostly non actors and animated characters is kind of weird for a 50 million movie.

Good point. It’ll be interesting to see what happens if she deep-sixes this movie when they’ve already spent the budget of a midling indie film just on development alone. Plus, then you have the issue of whether or not Brad had a “play or pay” contract. It’s doubtful since he was working at a discount, but you never know.

In the end though - I just can’t see Brad being too upset if the movie doesn’t get made. He and Angie will go to France and he gets to spend most of the summer hanging out with his wife and his kids. It’s win-win for Brad.

Steven Soderbegh has been given the weekend to find a new home for his Brad Pitt baseball picture Moneyball. If another studio doesn’t step up by Monday, Columbia have the option to either fire Soderbergh and replace him or to stall the project indefinitely. The problem, according to Variety, is dispute over the shooting script. This latest draft by Soderbergh and Steve Zaillian has displeased Sony head honcho Amy Pascal so much that she’s taken the drastic measure of ditching what sounds like, to me, a golden opportunity. At the very least, this is a Brad Pitt vehicle from an Acadmey Award winning director and an equally Oscared screenwriter.

So, what doesn’t she like? Apparently that the script is innovative, that Soderbergh has some ambitious ideas and that the basic sport movie paradigm (yawn) simply doesn’t apply to this picture.

Already filmed for the picture are a series of genuine, non-fiction interviews with famous ballplayers, the idea being that these would be interspersed amongst the dramatized scenes. Why Pascal thinks this would scare off viewers I really don’t know. Here are what I consider to be two major flaws in her reckoning:

Firstly - viewers don’t have to know that the film will contain these interviews, and they can find out by watching the film at which point it’s too late to be scared and the audience can just enjoy the film for what it is. There’s no rule to say these scenes have to be part of the marketing.

Secondly, and probably more importantly - the typical sports fan watches hours and hours of banal talking heads, year-in, year-out as the match gets deconstructed, say, or the pre-game speculation gets piled up. How will some more sportsmen talking about sport put off any of these folk? Particularly when the discussion here are some events that shaped the course of a sport forever.

If Sony do ditch Soderbergh, there is of course a possibility that Brad Pitt could walk away. I sincerely hope he would do so too. What would justify him staying?

There are so many wonderful things that Angie does that do not get publicized.

Liz is the 26 year old wife of David Flowers, who was wounded when he stepped on a landmine in Afghanistan on May 11. He is currently being treated at Walter Reed in DC.

Liz has a blog. She has a post that describes one of the many things that Angie did while she was in DC this week.

I slept in while Mom and Granny spent time with Dave. He had PT at 1:30 and right before he scooted off one of the nurses told him to wait that a “distinguished guest” was about to arrive. It was Angelina Jolie! She spent about 20 minutes talking with Dave and taking pictures! Then after she left the liaison came around and handed out gift bags signed by her with a gift card to Best Buy worth $1,000!

Showbiz Tonight usually trashes her as well. They attract negative followers to their show. I don’t usually watch it because it always has a negative vibe going on when it comes to Angie. They are still trying to cover their a**es now because it is so obvious that Angie is a good person with a big heart and a compassionate soul. It has always been obvious but the media wanted to paint her in a negative light because the Hollywood PR machine could build up a certain tv sitcom star by knocking Angie down. You can tell they get pleasure from saying mean, nasty things about Angie. Since Angie has no PR rep, people in the media can write and say anything they wanted about her - and they did. So Showbiz Tonight is very hypocritical to me. Why must they always throw in the name of Brad’s x whenever they talk about Angie. The x gets more free publicity - they let her ride on Angie’s coattails - but when the x does something, they never mention Angie. Angie is not even in the same league as the x, but the tabloid media like Showbiz Tonight try to keep the x on the same level as Angie. But she is not and has never been on the same level of achievement personally or professionally as Angie.

Showbiz tonight is an hour late and a buck short, but better late than never. Angie shows up in Washington for one day in a simple sweater and pants and gets annointed ‘Saint’ and x makes a bad speech accepting a cheesy non award in a tin foil dress sized for a fifteen year old; sorry but I cannot stop contrasting these women. The press has done it for so long in a biased and uninformed manner, it is downright about time they got it right. And the cream always does rise to the top. Real is real, no matter how long you ignore it in favour of the ”contrived’………the truth always comes out, it has just taken way too long and it is not fully realized as yet.

It has been a week of women; strong, brave women. Makes ya proud. These Iranian women are amazingly strong, committed and gutsy. The photo of the young woman who was shot thru the heart will become a symbol of this struggle, a young martyr for their cause. I have total admiration for their fervor in the face of the brutes who will try and bully and bury them into submission.

I have to wonder if I would have the courage of these women, to step up knowing the so called police have the right to murder you if they so wish……..all in the name of a god. Isn’t most ugliness in this world in the name of some messiah? Very true. One of the options is getting a new director, in the hopes that Brad doesn’t walk. Brad still gets paid his 15M whether it gets made or not.

The conflict is between the studio and the director and his new script.

There’s an LA premiere Aug. 10th for IB.

Saw Brad on Spike.. very cute, funny and sexy.. yeah.. I also note that during most of hte commercials they kept showing him behind the scenes. I don’t think he stayed that long. I kep looking to see if he was still at the table he was sitting at the beginning of the show..

No offense, but the British tabs pull this fake story out of mothballs every 8 or 9 months or so. Seriously, can you see Angie interested in doing a musical?

What Is Really The Story On Moneyball?

I don’t have an answer. But I am 98% sure that the simplified line being floated out there that Amy Pascal was either asserting herself or just couldn’t find it in her heart to back the script changes is not the full story.

Financially, Pitt’s success in foreign countries is undeniable… and in Moneyball, he would be playing a major charismatic, chiseled, former athlete. Looking at a $58 million budget for this film, take this into account: Since 1994 - fifteen years - Brad Pitt has been in One movie that didn’t gross $50 million internationally. ONE. He has been in Two movies that grossed less than $100 million worldwide. TWO. And one of them was Snatch, made for under $15 million, grossing $84 million worldwide, a profit before DVD of at least $15 million, probably more.

This leaves ONE financial argument against betting with Pitt… The Assassination of Jesse James, which WB sat on for a year before dumping it domestically, and not releasing it foreign until after the US flop had registered against it, tainting the film everywhere it went.

Add this to the equation… Pitt’s last nine films, starting with Ocean’s Eleven at the end of 2001, have all grossed OVER $100 million in foreign markets alone… with the one exception of Jesse James. And it’s not just Ocean’s movies… it’s Babel ($101m), it’s Burn After Reading ($101m), and its The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ($205m). Pitt hasn’t made a single movie that hasn’t done 150% of domestic since The Mexican in 2001.

You have to work long and hard to convince yourself that Brad Pitt playing a charismatic in a $60 million modern era, film is a bad risk. Meet Joe Black was a 3 hour long disaster with Pitt playing a zombie through most of the film and it did $143 million worldwide in 1998 box office dollars… which is the low end of the modern Pitt box office curve.

Thing is… this is, indeed, happening all over town lately. We’re not talking about overinflated comedies from solid box office players who want to time warp or Hawaii themselves into spending more than $100 million… or even $80 million on backlot set comedies. $60 million… Brad Pitt… unusual… but no more so than Burn After Reading ($161m ww).

Add this… Sony eats $15 million to $20 million on the movie if they shut it down. It will never come back to life, most likely, but if it does, not a dollar they spent aside from the book buy will go towards the film itself. If the film did just $160m worldwide, that’s $88 million in rentals against $58m in production and, say, $80 million in marketing. A $50 million shortfall that should more than be made up by DVD and other post-theatricals. But it’s really a $30 million shortfall from where they are today, so the choice to put the movie into “limited turnaround” is a choice to lose money on a project that is all but guaranteed to make money at this budget price.

Using the $20 million already laid out, how low would the worldwide box office have to be for this movie to lose a dollar for the studio? Estimate: about $120 million. $66m bo rentals, $35m post-theatrical, $20m against the film = $121m - $58m production - $63m marketing.

And note again, only 3 times in the last 15 years has a Brad Pitt film failed to top $130m worldwide. One, Snatch, made money. Fight Club, which did only $100 million in 1999, cost slightly more than Moneyball, though marketing was tens of millions lower on average in those days, but probably still lost a little money… not $20 million. The third was the infamous Jesse James.

The Devil’s Frickin’ Own did $140 million ww in 1997 with the most negative wave of media you can imagine!

But again… stupid choices are being made all over town, as they always have. But it is hyper-intense at the moment because studios are cash-strapped, credit-strapped, and under enormous pressure from the parent companies.

What’s the real story at Sony? They made The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 for $100 million. I like the movie (not everyone did) and it may catch up with its cost overseas, but it has a looong way to go. And this weekend, the $60 million Year One, signaled a domestic gross of less than $60 million and a foreign gross of $40 million or less.

So you tell me… is Amy Pascal being a hero and battening down the hatches against out-of-control superstar salaries or is she feeling the heat (Paul Blart seems like decades ago already) and wildly overreacting to a draft she doesn’t like as much as the last one, throwing away a smartly priced movie with one of the planet’s five biggest movie stars?

The irony is that Soderberg & Zaillian have not crafted what they see as “a baseball movie.” Soderbergh’s position on this film is not one like The Good German, a black and white dramatic experiment with another Ocean’s an easy next step for the studio. He said to me, “Moneyball has to work. This one has to work.” What was the context? That this was the opportunity to make a very successful film that would allow him to keep doing his smaller films for a few years until he needed to feed the commercial beast again.

The great lie of Hollywood, at the moment, is that actions are being taken for the best of the studio. The truths are “we can’t afford it,” “our egos won’t allow it,” “we f-ed up the last one and we don’t know if we can really make the next one work,” and “fire him, not me.” And as a result, an entire wave of really interesting, modestly budgeted movies are being dumped while over-budgeted car wrecks are being green lit because they fit the perceived idea of what has been successful.

Do you know that Spanglish made less than Little Nicky worldwide… the biggest fiscal loser of Adam Sandler’s career? Do you know that Jim Brooks is still casting up his next film at Sony?

Now don’t get me wrong… I don’t think Jim Brooks should be kicked out of show business because he made one massive stinker that couldn’t capitalize on a major movie star after so many wonderful and successful films. But if you want to throw stones at Soderbergh for making smaller films, look at the bottom line. Che’ made good money for IFC (and should have made more) and The Girlfriend Experience will make money for Magnolia.

I can’t get into the details of some of the other projects that are being kicked all over town by paranoid execs who either have to pretend they have the money to proceed but just don’t want to or who are so scared of their own shadows that if there isn’t an animated vehicle or guy with a mask in it, they don’t want to know. But those films will soon be The Story of this industry. That is the next wave. “They” haven’t stopped making movies or started making better decisions… they have just returned to their holes in the trees to try to protect the nuts they have and not get eaten by the bear waiting for them outside.

The wet, drooly dream is that somehow, the financial setbacks will lead to more creativity. In this example, as with many others right now, the truth is the opposite.

There are plenty of situations in which saying, “No” to Brad Pitt would be smart and/or perhaps heroic. This is not that moment.

For the most part, people hate Brad and Angie (moreso Angie) because of Jen’s confessed pain and public humiliation over the “breakup” of her marriage. I say “breakup” because it feeds into the notion that Angie stole Brad away. After all, if it wasn’t for Angie, Brad would still be with Jennifer, right?

Most people on this thread believe that adultery, which includes a creepy level of deception and a lack of respect,is what lured Brad away from Jennifer, that Angie manipulated her way into Brad’s life and stole him from Sweet Jennifer, America’s sweetheart People want revenge, justice and basically, want Angie to búrn in héll for hurting Jen. Moneyball Delay Could be Blessing-in-Disguise for Brad

It’s rarely a good sign when a movie studio decides to put a film into turnaround only a couple of days before it’s slated to begin shooting — especially a film from an Oscar-winning director and starring one of the biggest-name actors on the planet. But that’s exactly what happened to Brad Pitt’s next project, the Steven Soderbergh-directed Moneyball, which was supposed to start filming today in Arizona.

However, insiders explain to OK! that this delay in production, which is reportedly due to last-minute conflicts over the script, may end up working in Brad’s favor — psychologically and physically.

“The location shoot for the film would have kept Brad away from his family, who are all with Angelina Jolie while she films Salt on the east coast,” says the insider. “But with Moneyball on hold, he won’t be jetting back and forth or have to worry about being a long-distance dad. Brad is free to do what he wants until this situation with the film is resolved.”

Some sources tell OK! that Brad already took advantage of the schedule change by flying east to join Angie and the kids for Father’s Day weekend.

One thing Brad might want to do with his free time, says the insider, is hit the gym. “Brad’s character in Moneyball, Oakland A’s manager Billy Beane, is in the kind of shape Brad used to be in, but anyone who’s looked at photos of him recently can see this is not the ripped hottie from Fight Club,” explains the insider. “Maybe he should stop riding his motorcycle and take a spinning class.”

Production was expected to begin today in Phoenix, Arizona on the baseball flick MONEYBALL that would’ve reteamed star Brad Pitt and director Steven Soderbergh. But on Friday afternoon, Columbia Pictures head Amy Pascal put the project in “limited turnaround,” effectively dropping the pic and allowing another studio to pick up the film. So what happened that a studio backed out of a Brad Pitt starring film just three days before filming was supposed to begin?

The trouble started when Soderbergh turned in a final shooting draft that executives found “very different” than the one they had greenlit by Steven Zaillian. While the budget was a modest $60 million, Sony felt the film’s new vision wasn’t worth the risk (especially with the thinking that the project wouldn’t work well internationally).

So what next? There are essentially two options. First, a new studio could pick the film up as is (Warner Bros. and Paramount are said to be interested) and the only impact to production would be a few days of filming. Second, if no other suitor could be found by today, Columbia could drop Soderbergh and attempt to find a new director that would bring the original vision to screens (with hopes that Pitt doesn’t follow his buddy out the door) or just drop the film altogether.

Extra Tidbit: Soderbergh has filmed a number of segments for the film already including interviews with former Major League Baseball players.

Brad Pitt’s Steven Soderbergh-Directed Adaptation Of ‘Moneyball’ Strikes Out

Columbia Pictures was aghast when the latest script for the adaptation of Michael Lewis’ Moneyball arrived. So much so that they’ve put the project in turnaround. Oh, and: production was supposed to start next week.

Per a Variety report that dropped today, Columbia Studio head Amy Pascal hated the script so much when she got it, she shut down production on the movie, which was supposed to start Monday in Phoenix. The script, adapted from Lewis’ book by Steve Zaillian (American Gangster, Schindler’s List) and Steven Soderbergh, had changed so much since Pascal had first seen it, that she’s given Soderbergh and Pitt the weekend to find a new home for the movie, either with Paramount or Warner Bros.

The movie, starring Brad Pitt, Demetri Martin, and a bunch of actual baseball players (David Justice, et al) isn’t exactly a traditional baseball flick, but this was also the project that ended up sidelining Steven Soderbergh’s epic - and hopefully, epically flamboyant - musical take on the life of Cleopatra (”Cleo”), so, you know, you get what you pay for. Variety suggests that if they can’t line someone else up to take over the bill of the movie, Columbia’s either going to (A) try to replace Soderbergh on the project, (B) delay production indefinitely until Soderbergh and Pascal can agree on what’s going to happen once the thing gets back into gear or (C) scrap the entire thing.

Meanwhile, Michael Lewis is still sitting on piles of money from his Vanity Fair writing contract and this, while a small bump in the road for him, certainly isn’t the end of it. This project’s far too beloved by Hollywood for it to go anywhere but (eventually) into production, and Brad Pitt’s probably not going to stick around if Soderbergh gets taken off of it.

But most importantly, here’s the list of facepalm-worthy baseball wordplay Variety used in their report:

This is just so funny.. There is a story about “Moneyball on almost every site. But the thing that gets me is that several sites are trying the best they can to make the haulting of the movie about Brad.. Brad has nothing to do with this, and they are as I said trying to find a reason.. OK I believe.. nutters heave…. tired to imply that Brad was out of shaped and not fit enough for the role…

LMAO… Say what you want, but Brad Pitt has never been out of shape.. NEVER.. Is he in the same shape as he was in Fight Club..NO.. but please this man has kept his body like many in hollywood have not.. Just too funny how they have to create drama where the drama is not about Brad.

I for one would have only seen the movie because of Brad. Just as I didn’t see State of Play because Brad was not in it. So I just feel sorry for all the people who have lost their jobs. The people who may have turned down work because they were counting on this. The Economy is bad for a lot of people.. and if this movie is not going to be made then YEAH there are people who are being hurt by the Studio’s decisison.. I just don’t understand how a script would be changed so much at this time of production. And who dropped the ball. The actors have nothing to do with the money.. so trying to blame Brad is just so stupid..

OT.. Amy looks a lot like Jennifer Anniston.. I wonder if people call her beautiful and breathtaking too.. (just a thought)
