Gerard Butler Puckers Up

Sugar, you are so sweet for admiring and loving this man the way he is. Really, who cares if he is bi or gay? That has no effect on my perception of the man and nothing would change as fas as my enjoying his movies and congrat on his success.

I find it shallow and superficial that some people liked him 4 or 5 years ago mainly because he was younger and had a better looking face. And they claim they don’t understand why his fans still love this older version of him. I guess these people probably stop loving their parents, spouses and friends because they are “older” and less “pretty”.

There is something deeper than skin. Although a fan’s admiration for a certain celebrity differs from his/her love for loved ones and friends, sometimes this admiration can be intrinsical and long lasting.

I just wish Gerard would move away from these mediocre, boring roles. I have seen him act in much better stuff than this!! In my opinion, he is not fulfilling his potential and if he doesn’t do something about it soon, then I fear he never will. What happened to him playing Rabbie Burns? That would have been fantastic, a worthwhile role at long last. I know the man doesn’t ever let on about what he’s doing next but I hope he has something stunning up his sleeve because I am slowly losing interest in him as an actor. The rest of it is just fairy dust.

Ok, that was not the best comparision, but I was just trying to make a point, which, I hope, the readers got. English is my second language so sometimes it’s a bit hard to come up with the most accurate expression of what I intend to say.

To be honest, I am totally not infatuated with GB. So you don’t have to feel sorry for GB in my case.

Trythis1, I rest my case. You are right. HW is all about image. Go right ahead with your bombardment. But as you mentioned before, karma is a powerful thing. What one says or writes about or does to others will come back to him/her tenfold.

As to GB’s slide in character, I don’t intend to judge anyone because I am afraid I will be judged. So there you go.

I’ve seen photos of his loft, as well, and I think it is very baroque and beautiful. His apartment in London, I’ve read, is ultra-modern with”clean lines” and muted tones. His loft shows another side to him, the artist, poet, and romantic. It’s funny how some of the non-Gerry lovers seem to know so much about his periphery ..homes, choices, etc. As to his acting, in the past few films he played a romantic lead (Gerry Kennedy), a dual role of adventurer/father(Alex Rover/Jack Russoe), and upcoming films: a psycholtic person seeking revenge(LAC), a voice of a Viking (How to Train Your Dragon), the voice of a ship’s captain who goes mad(Tales of the Black Freighter), a soldier in a real/surreal world(Gamer), and now a hard-nosed bounty hunter…Nobody plagues J. Depp for weird Willy Wonka, weird Sweeney Todd, weird Ichabod Crane, weird Scissorhands, and upcoming weird The Mad Hatter. Heis timburtoned to death! Gerard plays different roles that many actors couldn’t play: he can be anything. His looks? I love them!!!! He is very manly, and we’re not sitting next to him as he is very funny in person, I’ve read and seen. An actor acts. We have no right to criticize him for anything else than his excellent..or good..or unremarkable ..or terrible acting. I once wrote to Leonard Maltin..and surprsingly, he wrote me back. I mentioned how I liked Gerard in every role, and he said,”Mr. Butler has never given a bad performance. He is one of my favorites, too.”

By the way, some of us have speculated on why he is kissing that old, fat woman…perhaps he has spotted “Cass”IJA), and he doesn’t want this woman (the bail bondsman) to see her. So what does he do? He grabs her and plants a big one on her …after that…I doubt if she’d notice anything else!

@81.. Excuse me , what bombardment ? I was only suggesting that IN SOME PEOPLE’S OPINIONS Gerry’s questionable character is what is at issue , and that he needs less fans ( fanatics ) and more friends. Look , the harshest thing I’ve said about him is that I don’t find him particularly interesting , intellectually or spiritually . I”ve tried to walk a middle road and not go off the deep end , EITHER direction .

On another , now defunct , site I saw some women lose their hearts and rationality over a person (GB) they don’t even know ! All they know is the image , the persona , and -if they’re unlucky enough–some REAL BS from some phony Gerry posing as the real one .

I wish EVERYONE well here , even the flame throwing REAALY scary haters of …somebody , something …who knows …too weird for me !

Less fans?…Well, his films wouldn’t fll the theaters with less fans…maybe afew who are fans of other celebrities…but I think celebrities need their fans to a certain extent to get the word out of certain newcomer…Maybe once they become a “household” name..they don’t need their fans anymore..They will forget all about them and really become narsisstic… believing what their press and media says about them hummm No fans…Empty stadiums, empty theaters…Yeah..I think afew of them need to see that. Wonder if that would effect their pocket book?…and ratings??

Yeah..that’s just it..Most people do flop over their hard earned cash to watch a flick…especially nowadays..to get away for a few hours..My suggestion is..go to The Hangover..It’s great for a few laughs..and boy we all could use that every now and then :)

Liz- Please tell me how someone commenting on his loft and how he might be gay makes that person a “non- Gerry lover”? Is it because you don’t agree with that observation and comment that makes that person a non-Gerry lover/ hater? Or are you a homophobe and thus assume that anyone who thinks he might not be straight is a hater? I guess if Gerry were to come out as gay or bi it would shatter your image of him and who you need him to be. You are projecting. And you seem obsessed about him. I’m sure that there are many fans who wonder about his sexuality. It doesn’t make them any less of a fan.
Why is it that Gerry’s self - proclaimed biggest fans are the most intolerant people on this board? Just because someone has a differing opinion or doesn’t elevate Gerry to the level of a diety doesn’t make them a hater or “non-gerry lover”.

Well, love or hate the man, the discussions here sure do get very heated.
Personally I think he’s great… Young - old, straight - gay, whatever - whenever.
I certainly don’t know anything about his personal life (that he hasn’t told us himself in interviews), but I like what I see on screen and in the interviews I’ve seen.

Isn’t all of this just a form of stalking? Either good of bad about the man, it’s still a form of stalking. Correct me if I am wrong. It’s his private life, isn’t it?

pafan - what do you not get? This isn’t a fansite. It is a uncensored public message board and people with various opinions are going to write what they think, good or bad. What you would or wouldn’t do is irrelevant. Your long, frequent posts are just as welcome as those with opposing views. There’s your explanation - if you really wanted one and weren’t just bitching because this isn’t like a fansite with only Gerry fans posting.

I personally like to hear all points of view. If I didn’t, I would go to a fansite. I wouldn’t go to the trouble of posting some stupid “Why do you people post here if you don’t love him???” crap and ask for an explanation like some self-appointed monitor for the board.
But hey, it’s a public board. You are free to do it. And I am free to point out how stupid it is.
