OlderJennifer Aniston Takes Action For Healthy Kids
Smartwater and its spokesperson Jennifer Aniston just launched a limited-edition smartwater bottle, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the non-profit organization Action For Healthy Kids, a group that gets kids moving, eating well, staying hydrated and educated on what it takes to live healthy lives.
5 cents of each bottle sold will go directly to Action for Healthy Kids, with a minimum donation of $1 million. The bottle’s label was inspired by a mural Jennifer and a group of 20 kids from the AFHK program in Los Angeles did this past fall.
Jennifer shared, “I really learned so much from these kids during the art session and am grateful to be able to partner with smartwater to help such an amazing organization, one that makes an enormous difference in kids’ lives every day.”

And how much goes into her pocket. Kids in school do not need expensive water..she could be helping to fund reading programs, tutoriing programs. at risk programs art programs since many school are forced to cut them because of budgets being sliced. I would have more respect for her efforts if she was talking about diet and exercise. She loves yoga then fund a yoga program.

Before the divorce, she was the American Sweetheart. Vogue told in large fonts: “everybody loves Jen” with stunning pics. People mag choosed her like the most beautiful person of the world. Jen was working hard, getting awards for this, living her life without do anything to hurt anyone, being a really good person. Of course, she is human, she is not perfect, but who is?

This seems like a worthy charity, but this is a scammy way to raise money for it. How about this?
–I drink 3 liters (I also believe in hydration) of water a day.
–Each 1.5L bottle of SmartWater costs 3.50.
=$7 dollars a day with only 10 cents going to charity. After one month, I would have spent 210.00 on SmartWater and given 3.00 to charity.
I could just use my britta pitcher and reusable bottles and squirrel 2 dollars a day. Then I could give them 60 bucks. And I’d know they got it, which with these backend promotions, how can you be sure?

I think it’s great she is working with kids and enjoys it. I would love to see her go to a poor country and work with kids there as well. She just may really love it. I have been to places where the children had never seen a person with light hair and skin before. They look at you as if you are unreal and want to touch you. It’s very touching and cute and can be a life altering experience. Someone like Jennifer might really get enjoyement out of it.

SmartWater is expensive. It is about 4 bucks for a 1.5L bottle. So 5 cents a bottle is miserly of them. It is an advertising ploy.
But this is a worthy charity. If you want to help with their work, donate to them directly. Then JA will have done some good by making you aware of how this organization serves children in your community.

Jason (#126), you’ve a good point. Why use this all the time? Some time we wnat to talk about art, movies, culture and other things that are important too. Charity is essencial in this world, of course, and no doubt it’s important to do and talk about it, but not only about it.
Aniston is the epitome of mediocrity, she just got lucky with Friends and marrying Pitt. She’s a role model for every woman who was left for a younger, better lookiing woman (unfortunately quite a sizable majority today) and every woman who is not beautiful, or particularly talented, but who believes that if Aniston can realize the dream, so can they. She has a lot of money and hired the most powerful PR machine in Holllywood (beats having any real talent). They are the stars in this womans career. The years of her being Mrs. Pitt were easy, if the studios wanted him they’d throw a bone to her. But after the break up they saw a market for the “wronged ex-wife” role model and have capitalized on it for 4+ yrs. The rags (Star, In touch, etc.) are all to willing accomplices in keeping the triangle going strong (how many years and kids has it been?), knowing that nothing sells like Pitt & Jolie. Think she was in a prime position to break the mold of 40+ actresses in Hollywood but went the conventional route. She had (has) a die hard fanbase who would have supported her in anything, yet she went the surgical (I’m really not 40) route to stay relevant. No risks in her movie choices, make believe boyfriends to stay in the news, constant referrals to who she once was, unbridled hatred for the woman who finally gave her Ex the family he always wanted. It’s really, really sad.

She is not doing a great thing because she has a vested interest in the business as part shareholder. She invested $10m in the business and stands to get a cut of any profit made. It is in her interest that she promotes the business, the higher the profits the more dividend (returns) she gets. She has more to gain than the children and using the children or pretending to do charity work for children will only escalate the profits for her and the company.

Anyone who believes Anifraud cares about charity is fooling themselves. This woman does whatever her PR guru’s tell her to do for publicity and nothing more. If she was so charitable with her money and not old crap out of her home or signed shirts, trust me it would be all over the news. Because charitable organizations use popular public persona’s to bring attention to their cause. Why? So we the ordinary folks are aware of such charity and hopeful we will donate to their cause because our favorite celebrity did.
To all you who claims Aniston is private with her donations are fools. If Aniston write a check for anything over $1k (example Pres. Obama’s campaign) it would be news, because she is the ex of an A-lister whom the media is still unfornately connecting them together. It would be big business for them. Just like Jolie-Pitt when they make a donation it is announced because the charity knows any mention of them brings awareness. The Jolie-Pitts don’t need to boast about their charitable contributions they are doing what they should be doing bringing awareness through their celebrity.

1. Isn’t bottled water safer than tap water?
No, not necessarily. NRDC conducted a four-year review of the bottled water industry and the safety standards that govern it, including a comparison of national bottled water rules with national tap water rules, and independent testing of over 1,000 bottles of water. Our conclusion is that there is no assurance that just because water comes out of a bottle it is any cleaner or safer than water from the tap. And in fact, an estimated 25 percent or more of bottled water is really just tap water in a bottle — sometimes further treated, sometimes not.
2. Is bottled water actually unsafe?
Most bottled water appears to be safe. Of the bottles we tested, the majority proved to be high quality and relatively free of contaminants. The quality of some brands was spotty, however, and such products may pose a health risk, primarily for people with weakened immune systems (such as the frail elderly, some infants, transplant and cancer patients, or people with HIV/AIDS). About 22 percent of the brands we tested contained, in at least one sample, chemical contaminants at levels above strict state health limits. If consumed over a long period of time, some of these contaminants could cause cancer or other health problems.
3. Could the plastic in water bottles pose a health risk?
Recent research suggests that there could be cause for concern, and that the issue should be studied closely. Studies have shown that chemicals called phthalates, which are known to disrupt testosterone and other hormones, can leach into bottled water over time. One study found that water that had been stored for 10 weeks in plastic and in glass bottles contained phthalates, suggesting that the chemicals could be coming from the plastic cap or liner. Although there are regulatory standards limiting phthalates in tap water, there are no legal limits for phthalates in bottled water — the bottled water industry waged a successful campaign opposing the FDA proposal to set a legal limit for these chemicals.

4. How can I find out where my bottled water comes from?
A few state bottled water programs (e.g., Massachusetts and New York) maintain lists of the sources of bottled water, but many do not. Try calling or writing the bottler to ask what the source is, or call the bottled water program in your state or the state in which the water was bottled to see if they have a record of the source (your state’s health or agriculture department is most likely to run the bottled water program). If you choose to buy bottled water and are concerned about its safety, buy brands with a known protected source and ones that make readily available testing and treatment information that shows high water quality.
5. How can I determine if bottled water is really just tap water?
Often it’s not easy. First, carefully check the bottle label and even the cap — if it says “from a municipal source” or “from a community water system” this means it’s derived from tap water. Again, you can call the bottler, or the bottled water program in your state or the state where it was packaged.
6. What actions can I take to improve bottled water safety?
Write to your members of Congress, the FDA, and your governor (see below for contact information) and urge them to adopt strict requirements for bottled water safety, labeling, and public disclosure. Specifically, point out to these officials that they should:
set strict limits for contaminants of concern in bottled water, including arsenic, heterotrophic-plate-count bacteria, E. coli and other parasites and pathogens, and synthetic organic chemicals such as “phthalates”;
apply the rules to all bottled water whether carbonated or not and whether sold intrastate or interstate; and
require bottlers to display information on their labels about the levels of contaminants of concern found in the water, the water’s exact source, how it’s been treated, and whether it meets health criteria set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Centers for Disease Control for killing parasites like cryptosporidium.
Members of Congress and governors should also pass legislation providing the resources for the FDA and state regulators to actually enforce the law.
To take further action, you can encourage your bottlers and the International Bottled Water Association (a trade organization that includes about 85 percent of water bottlers) to voluntarily make labeling disclosures such as those above.

7. How does drinking bottled water affect the environment?
In 2006, the equivalent of 2 billion half-liter bottles of water were shipped to U.S. ports, creating thousands of tons of global warming pollution and other air pollution. In New York City alone, the transportation of bottled water from western Europe released an estimated 3,800 tons of global warming pollution into the atmosphere. In California, 18 million gallons of bottled water were shipped in from Fiji in 2006, producing about 2,500 tons of global warming pollution.
And while the bottles come from far away, most of them end up close to home — in a landfill. Most bottled water comes in recyclable PET plastic bottles, but only about 13 percent of the bottles we use get recycled. In 2005, 2 million tons of plastic water bottles ended up clogging landfills instead of getting recycled.
8. If I drink tap water should I use a filter and what types of filters are most effective?
The real long-term solution is to make tap water safe for everyone. However, if you know you have a tap water quality or taste problem, or want to take extra precautions, you should purchase filters certified by NSF International (800 NSF-MARK). These filters designate which contaminants they remove, and you can look for one that removes any contaminants of special concern such as cryptosporidium. Such certification is not necessarily a safety guarantee, but it is better than no certification at all. It is critically important that all filters be maintained and replaced at least as often as recommended by the manufacturer, or they might make the problem worse. 9. How can I obtain test results on my tap water?
Under new “right-to-know” provisions in the drinking water law, all tap water suppliers must provide annual water quality reports to their customers. To obtain a copy, call your water provider (the one that sends your water bills).
You also can test your water yourself, though this can be expensive. There are state-certified drinking water laboratories in virtually every state that can test your water. My contention is that, she’s selling a product with an added enticement that if you buy a bottle of Smartwater (a sales contract between buyer and seller) you will be giving 5cents to charity. It sounds good advertising isn’t it? But does their target market realize how much they’re (Glaceau) profiting from it? And that it’s just really tap water in a fancy water bottle promoted by Aniston? Does the target market realizes or were made aware of the cons in plastic bottles – that goes against the grains of water and sustainability programs? Sad thing is, unlike cigarettes packs which comes with the warning that smoking is dangerous to your health, bottled water labels do not have warnings, that its dangerous to the environment.
I would have more respect for her efforts with this charity if she had handed the charity a check, not promoted their (hers) product when her hand is in the company pocket. I have to agree that $0.05 per bottle will not dent the profit margin on this. Maybe she should use some better judgement next time.

But the ambiguity of this promotional or advertising concept (you buy Smartwater, you give to charity) used is questionable in an era where a sustainable environment is a critical issue.

I’m specially concerned about the water issue because H2O is a precious commodity that should be accessible to everyone - and by accessibility I mean clean water. It’s distribution should be at cost with no or little profit from it. It just galls me that a bottling company is making such a huge profit margin out of water.
