Three days after his son Michael Jackson death, 80-year-old Joe Jackson hits the red carpet the 2009 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (June 28) in Los Angeles.
Towards the end of his interview with CNN, Joe took the opportunity to promote his new business venture, a record label. Watch the interview below! The record label talk starts around the 3:15 mark.
And here is the statement one of the family’s publicists read during the interview: “Our beloved son Michael Jackson loved you all. Michael’s children are our first priority. We will have further announcements to discuss our plans going forward. Until such time, however, we have the personal and legal authority to act, and solely Katherine and I have authority for our son and his children. We wish to handle his memory and legacy with dignity. The attorney for the Jacksons is L. Londell McMillan and no one has the authority to speak on behalf of the Jackson family at this time.”

I was never a fan of Michael’s, but feel sad about his death. I don’t think he ever had the chance to be a child and live a normal life. He obviously suffered from Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), as evidence of his changing look. Hopefully he is able to happy and free from all that pain now. Michael was a genius….truly the best entertainer I’ll ever remember. I wish we could have seen him make a come back. I look at the clips of Michael as a little boy. He was so sweet and innocent. Wait a mintue guys is it just me who listened to the entire interview? Now I am not too fun of Joe Jackson either but the fact is in this interview Joe acknowledged and praised his son.
First, he stated that he wish MJ was alive to see the world give him his just do. Second, he stated that his wife as well as the rest of their family was coping the best they could and they had questions and concerns about MJ death. Third ,Joe stated he was there to celebrate his son’s memory. Fourth, he let the publicist read a statement from his entire family and finally he introduced the family attorney and stated that the attorney was the only to make any statements on behalf of the family.
Then the reporter is yet trying to question and pull any information he could get after Joe has told him everything he could tell him at that time. It was then and only then that Joe tried to use a smart tacted to deter the conversation to something else which may not have been the smartest move but we must remember the man is 80 years old.
Most of all guys if there were no Joe Jackson and his vision we would have never know MJ today. While good and bad the unfortune upbringing which lead to little or no childhood at all as we all have looked back at the early days and the beginning of MJ professional career it is obvious that he was as a genius and a superstar in the making. MJ was destain to soar and to reach heights like no one before.
At the end of the day MJ has stated before that he would not want to be anyone else and he would not have traded his life for anyone or anything else because the Kng of Pop live to entertain.

He is vile! He was photographed the day Michael died laughing and waving. Most of Michael’s issues were directly from Papa Joe. He used to beat all his kids, made fun of Michael for being dark skinned and having a big nose. I wholeheartedly believe he is indirectly responsible for all of Michael’s plastic surgery and emotional problems. So far none of the siblings have come forward offering to take care of the children. Rebbie (the oldest child) would be the best, as she’s the only one in that whole fcuked-up menage who is relatively sane, but she may not want to get involved with the family’s problems since she successfully got out of that nuthouse by marrying at seventeen and making a life of her own. Jill - I thought the same thing. I was reading the the Jackson kids’ bios and Rebbie seems like the only sane one. Marlon has been married a long time and seems stable as well. I actually was good friends with Michael, and i tried over the years to get Michael to quit drugs, eventually I had to tell Michael top stop calling me, and that I couldn’t hang out with him until her had a desire to get clean. But the one thing I remember him telling me so often, in his soft voice, was how he just hoped his father would love him, and how he (Michael) just wanted to make him proud, get his approval. Of course I told Mike (as I called him).. that the only person he needed to approve him was himself. If only he had listened to me, we all will miss him so.

Michael was very vocal about how great his mother was throughout his life and how much he loved her. I believe he and his father were on good terms later in life and Michael said in an interview within the last few years that he can now appreciate the sacrifices both his father and mother made for their children so it seems like he was in a good place with their relationship and tried to heal their past. The Jackson family is known for priding themselves on their strength and Joe Jackson never wants to appear weak. I’m sure he will miss his son although they were not close and didn’t understand each other. However, Joe seemed like the one “on something” during the whole interview and it is sad he didn’t talk about Michael as his son instead of a superstar. I think Joe always wanted to be in the limelight and the only way he could be is through Michael and the Jackson 5. It was definitely not the time to walk the red carpet or promote anything, that was just bizarre. Michael always said he loved his family and that family was everything to him. Could this comment from Michael;s father be a Freudian slip? Could he mean to say:”Michael is worth more now than he was when he was alive! Why did not his family intervene sooner to save him from the harm he was doing to himself. Could it be that all they cared about was the fact that as long as the money machine way putting out and supporting all the Jackson’s that’s all they cared about!? I, like a lot of people watched Michael Jackson, growing up in the media spotlight. I watched the interviews along with millions of others
who also could not get enough of the singer/intertainer. I don’t recall
one interview in which he ever said anything nice or positive about his
father. That says a lot. I always wondered why his mother didn’t put
a stop to all the abuse. Was he abusing her also? We probably will
never know and maybe we don’t need to know. Michael Jackson, is now in a better place as they say. My sincere condolences to all of his
family in this very painful time.
