Three days after his son Michael Jackson death, 80-year-old Joe Jackson hits the red carpet the 2009 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (June 28) in Los Angeles.
Towards the end of his interview with CNN, Joe took the opportunity to promote his new business venture, a record label. Watch the interview below! The record label talk starts around the 3:15 mark.
And here is the statement one of the family’s publicists read during the interview: “Our beloved son Michael Jackson loved you all. Michael’s children are our first priority. We will have further announcements to discuss our plans going forward. Until such time, however, we have the personal and legal authority to act, and solely Katherine and I have authority for our son and his children. We wish to handle his memory and legacy with dignity. The attorney for the Jacksons is L. Londell McMillan and no one has the authority to speak on behalf of the Jackson family at this time.”

Imagine this fossil ever having the nads to call anyone else “ugly”. Hahahaha. What a crock. Michael out classed that whole family.
Yah, he seems mean, to say the least. But listen, he’s from another time. And probably in his mind, he intended to raise tough children to survive in a tough world. He pushed them so they could rise from poverty and be successful.
i cant believe that he made a comment about his new record label, is that what a grieving person talks about???

This is really sad to me. His son is dead and he is promoting something…wow. It is surreal. I understand he is from another time as is my father who is the same age as Joe but c’mon…Joe you really are a cold person.

I’m watching the Jackson family movie. My Lord, Joe Jackson was/is a controlling asshat. Katherine, keep this man away from Michael’s children lest he think he can remake Michael. He reminds me of someone looking to cash in for $$ and attention from the death of Michael. From what I’ve read, he has hardly anything to his name now, Joe does.

Wait a mintue guys is it just me who listened to the entire interview? Now I am not too fun of Joe Jackson either but the fact is in this interview Joe acknowledged and praised his son.
First, he stated that he wish MJ was alive to see the world give him his just do. Second, he stated that his wife as well as the rest of their family was coping the best they could and they had questions and concerns about MJ death. Third ,Joe stated he was there to celebrate his son’s memory. Fourth, he let the publicist read a statement from his entire family and finally he introduced the family attorney and stated that the attorney was the only to make any statements on behalf of the family.
Then the reporter is yet trying to question and pull any information he could get after Joe has told him everything he could tell him at that time. It was then and only then that Joe tried to use a smart tacted to deter the conversation to something else which may not have been the smartest move but we must remember the man is 80 years old.
Most of all guys if there were no Joe Jackson and his vision we would have never know MJ today. While good and bad the unfortune upbringing which lead to little or no childhood at all as we all have looked back at the early days and the beginning of MJ professional career it is obvious that he was as a genius and a superstar in the making. MJ was destain to soar and to reach heights like no one before.
At the end of the day MJ has stated before that he would not want to be anyone else and he would not have traded his life for anyone or anything else because the Kng of Pop live to entertain.
Finally, we can not continue to throw Joe Jackson under the bus because with the good we must accept the bad and without tJoe Jackson there would have never been the KIng of Pop MJ and truly the good out weights the bad. And 45 years of entertaining the world MJ will live forever.
Joe shouldn’t have been let out the house in the first place.

@IS IT JUST ME?: Joe did a good job and yes he honored his son however, come on that was not the time.So Yes he was and ass for plugging himself and introducing someone all the time he wanted to do that . He keep trying between all he was saying. So his word about his son was overshadowed by his selfishness. I watched the whole thing live and man it was bad. His own daughter walked on stage and he didn’t even come up there cause he knew he was wrong. He showed up for himself. His son came Second.
I’m sitting here watching an old doc with Michael Jackson and he’s talking about how terrified he was of his father and now suddenly this jerk’s the spokesperson for his son? How convenient. I invite people to take a look at the article in the London Times and read what the nanny knows. Michael’s parents care more about the money than the loss.

I think that it may have been nice to have someone from the family at the awards, BUT NOT JOE. Strutting around in the gold jewelry.Plugging something instead of only focusing on his son. Why did the family let him even go?
This has the feel of Anna Nicole’s ‘mother’ written on it. Should we even wonder why Anna and Michael may have been unhappy with their upbringing/parent? Anna’s so called parent showed her true self after Anna died. We are beginning to see it repeat with Joe Jackson.
All of us have to find ways to get the message out to Michael’s siblings. If the siblings have websites, send them e-mails! Post everyone. Call into talk shows. Please, please everyone.
We need to tell the siblings. “DO NOT let Joe take over! All of you know Michael would never want Joe to have such control over his estate and especially his children. Katherine maybe, but not Joe.
Your brother needs all of you to STEP UP NOW. Take control of the situation, tell your mother to kick Joe to the curb once and for all. ”
I also hope we will see other singers, etc. step up and let the siblings know not to let Joe have any control. Hopefully they will talk to the media about it. Attorney’s should also be telling Katherine that if she wants the children to raise, then Joe has to be out of the house once and for all and away from the children.
Joe has always been a sore spot for me, seeing his actions this evening proves it.

Lets all remember everyone handles grief differently. He may seem to be standing pulled together but inside breaking. We can’t judge him like the World judged Michael. We don’t know what happens when the cameras are off. My grandfather used to beat his children when they were younger but is now the most sweet gentle man you could ever meet. What he did in the past is his past. If it were not for Joe there would have been no Michael.
As far as the recording deal talk this may be a way for him to get his mind off of the weight on his shoulders. And just like he said I wish the Michael would have been around to see this love for him. I truly believe all Michael ever wanted was the love and respect he didn’t receive as a child. May he rest in peace

Absolutely disgusting. What a gang of vultures. I was also shocked to see the photo of Mr. Jackson LAUGHING with Jesse Jackson a day after his “beloved” son had died.

something awful goes thru my spine hearing this man and seeing his evil face…sick as sick gets. Poor Michael, may his soul be finally free of the abuse this man tormented him with all his life.
No wonder Michael was screwed up - I hope he was smart enough (Oh Please God) to make good arrangements for his children and not have his parents raise them. If his mother had no influence over Joe when their kids were growing up - it doesn’t seem like she’ll be able to do anything now.
