Three days after his son Michael Jackson death, 80-year-old Joe Jackson hits the red carpet the 2009 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (June 28) in Los Angeles.
Towards the end of his interview with CNN, Joe took the opportunity to promote his new business venture, a record label. Watch the interview below! The record label talk starts around the 3:15 mark.
And here is the statement one of the family’s publicists read during the interview: “Our beloved son Michael Jackson loved you all. Michael’s children are our first priority. We will have further announcements to discuss our plans going forward. Until such time, however, we have the personal and legal authority to act, and solely Katherine and I have authority for our son and his children. We wish to handle his memory and legacy with dignity. The attorney for the Jacksons is L. Londell McMillan and no one has the authority to speak on behalf of the Jackson family at this time.”

He is vile! He was photographed the day Michael died laughing and waving. Most of Michael’s issues were directly from Papa Joe. He used to beat all his kids, made fun of Michael for being dark skinned and having a big nose. I wholeheartedly believe he is indirectly responsible for all of Michael’s plastic surgery and emotional problems. He was a failed musician who lived out his dream through his kids and deprived them of a childhood. Katherine Jackson, aka the doormat, is a complete idiot for staying with such scum.
My heart bleeds for poor MJ and his kids. This guy was surrounded by leeches from day one and didn’t have a chance in hell of reaching old age. Being constantly haunted by the media and his fans probably didn’t help either. I keep thinking of that episode of South Park where Spears and Cyrus are chosen as human sacrifices for the annual corn crop. When will the world ever learn?
Why did this jerk have to show up to make a statement? I guess I can answer that myself…..to be once again in the spot light, even if he had to steal the moment from what should belong to the memory of his son. I agree with Jolie, instead of saying “I just lost a son” he goes on about how we’ve lost a great star. I WISH DAMN IT that his siblings would once and for all unmask this jerk of a father. I cannot believe that only Michael Jackson had the guts to tell the truth. His mother must be a victim of this jerk as well, because she never says anything to back up her son. Sad sad life. Michael, I sincerely hope that you are at peace now, away from all that tormented you, and that you have finally found joy in the arms of your heavenly father.
I feel horrible after listening to this monster. How can you possibly go to such an awards show let alone promote your own selfish interests when your son is undergoing a 2nd autopsy and hasn’t been buried yet!!!!?? How disrespectful, no wonder the entire family is so screwed up. OMG I feel so bad for Michael, at least his soul is at rest now…they are scavenging for every dollar they can make from his death. So far none of the siblings have come forward offering to take care of the children. Rebbie (the oldest child) would be the best, as she’s the only one in that whole fcuked-up menage who is relatively sane, but she may not want to get involved with the family’s problems since she successfully got out of that nuthouse by marrying at seventeen and making a life of her own. Latoya is a straight-up psycho, Janet isn’t all that stable herself, and the brothers all seem to have their own problems. God help those kids.
It is so terribly sad that Joe Jackson could not just take the time to sit home and mourn the loss of a son. Just so sad.
What a low-class piece of slime Joe Jackson is. He does not say that he just lost his son, but rather that he just lost the world’s biggest superstar. Then he has the nerve to mention his new record label. Unbelievable.
I dont know this man but it seems very crass and inappropriate to be self-promoting your own interests (with a dry eye) just after your supposed beloved son’s tragic death! He’s also in serious denial if he doesnt accept that MJ while an incredible artist had serious personal demons for many, many years which manifested into a drug addiction, self destructive life style and futile search for the love and acceptance he didnt get as a child. With all due respect to Joe he needs to acccept his son was deeply troubled in large part because of the abuse at his hands. RIP Michael and I wish your kids the most loving, stable environment possible and not be dragged through a bitter custody battle with dollar signs over your heads!!!
Jill - I thought the same thing. I was reading the the Jackson kids’ bios and Rebbie seems like the only sane one. Marlon has been married a long time and seems stable as well. I feel so bad for these kids, they are screwed with that family. Janet, LaToya, Jermaine are all whack jobs. At this point, Debbie Rowe would be a better alternative to the Jackson parents or most of the siblings.
Michael Jacksons father promoting his record label three days after his death is the most selfish,insulting, degrading, and embarassing piece of **** I have ever seen. And after that he doesn’t talk for michael he just sits in the audience laughing and enjoying himself without a tear in sight. That is just extremely RIDICULOUS. All michael wanted from his father is to know he wasn’t mad at him. You know what, LET me correct myself. Hes not a father hes a monster, and if it wasn’t for him putting Michael in so much pain. Not letting him experience his childhood and Making him into a shy emotional guy who said he used to walked the streets every night looking for some to talk to and cry in his sleep. Joe Jackson was praised at the BET awards. Yes he was the man whom created the Jackson 5. However, did not Michael fire him as a manager and he abused Michael physically and verbally through out his life.
Micheal is the greatest performer ever. His father had a devastating affect on his life. No wonder as great as he was, he did not realize this nor was Michael never happy with himself and his appearance. Devastating ramifications from an abusive childhood.
