Three days after his son Michael Jackson death, 80-year-old Joe Jackson hits the red carpet the 2009 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (June 28) in Los Angeles.
Towards the end of his interview with CNN, Joe took the opportunity to promote his new business venture, a record label. Watch the interview below! The record label talk starts around the 3:15 mark.
And here is the statement one of the family’s publicists read during the interview: “Our beloved son Michael Jackson loved you all. Michael’s children are our first priority. We will have further announcements to discuss our plans going forward. Until such time, however, we have the personal and legal authority to act, and solely Katherine and I have authority for our son and his children. We wish to handle his memory and legacy with dignity. The attorney for the Jacksons is L. Londell McMillan and no one has the authority to speak on behalf of the Jackson family at this time.”

I actually was good friends with Michael, and i tried over the years to get Michael to quit drugs, eventually I had to tell Michael top stop calling me, and that I couldn’t hang out with him until her had a desire to get clean. But the one thing I remember him telling me so often, in his soft voice, was how he just hoped his father would love him, and how he (Michael) just wanted to make him proud, get his approval. Of course I told Mike (as I called him).. that the only person he needed to approve him was himself. If only he had listened to me, we all will miss him so.

Hopefully he has nothing to do with raising Michaels children, He will mess them up just like he did to Michael.
Joe Jackson said he wished everyone had shown how much they loved Michael when he was alive. Well, Joe…..if you had done that, maybe Michael’s life would have been much happier. Talk about putting your foot in your mouth.

I thought MJ was acting weird while he lived, but seeing his father I now think he was surprisingly normal, considering he grew up (?) being controlled by this… thing. I hope MJ’s kids have no talent or they will have to sing for his record label. Like their dad.

Now everyone can understand why Michael turned out the way he did. HE HAD A FATHER LIKE THIS JERK!!! I was speechless when I first saw this and had to wait to respond. I accept that people handle grief in different ways, some of which may seem bizarre to other people, but Joe J public conduct since the death of his son has been extremely insenstive, above all else. I say this but then wonder if he’s also becoming confused, at 80 years old it’s a fair assumption to make. I was all for the children staying with the grandparents but now I’m not keen, but who else is there? Realistically? Very sad.
I forgot to express my disdain for Al Sharpton and his ilk, Jesse Jackson, increasing involvement… understandable moreso after seeing what kind of man Joe J is. All three are are indeed opportunitists. Loud mouth Sharpton can shout all he wants but only a few words will register. This should not turn into a farce, but with egomanics at the helm I’m afraid it will. RIP Michael and the very best to your children.

Disgusting! Just beyond cold.. I still am heartbroken over Michael’s death and I am just a fan.. and here he was, his father, promoting his record label and acting all happy at the awards, he was even laughing and dancing at the awards… it’s like his son didn’t even die… Janet however did seem extremely sad.. It’s just sad this man even had kids, no wonder Michael had so many problems…
