Janet Jackson made a brief appearance onstage during the 2009 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (June 28) in Los Angeles.
The 43-year-old sister of Michael Jackson honored her older brother during the ceremony, saying, “My entire family wanted to be here tonight but it was just too painful, so they elected me to speak to all of you. I’m going to keep it very short. To you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family. And he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family, and myself, thank you for all of your love. Thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”

Yeah, Michael’s family loves him so much, and misses him so much, that’s why his Mother drove to his house, and started searching for his money, demanding the nanny tell her where it is, because she knows he kept money there.

Me thinks papa Joe is in a bit of denial with both his sons history of drug addiction, and deep emotional issues (from the abuse of his Joe himself) and by his gaunt appearance unhealthy lifestyle. We get he was a brilliant artist but take a cue from your daughter and show some more grace and class right now. His kids dont need you stirring up even more negative media attention. And wouldnt the family have enough money to pay someone to go and shop for them so Grandma Katherine can have some privacy from the cameras??

people are saying things they know absolutely nothing about, the family have their own money, yes Michael had more but each family member is set for life already, the only unstable one now is Latoya and maybe randy, the other sibling have stable intact families, they should all pitch in and help raise Michael’s kids, Joe does not live with Katherine, haven’t for years, he lives in las Vegas, NV. away from the entire family don’t put out lies. Debbie row only wanted the money, she does not want her children, she was and is a gold digger that was bought.

I think it is so inappropriate for any family member to show up anywhere when your loved one isn’t even cold yet. To #25- this is a family that deserves everything that is heaped on them. The parents are pure trash for what they did to their kids.

every last one of Michael’s sibling and mother loved Michael deeply, the family tried to help Michael, but Michael is a grown man and refused, i know that feeling of helplessness, but they have nothing to feel guilty of, just remember he is in a better place. my prayers goes to that family in pain. and may Michael RIP.

I was so thankful they didn’t show resent pictures of him during the tribute. In fact they didn’t show one picture AFTER the plastic surgery or skin bleaching. I had forgot just how beautifully handsome Michael once was…

Just because Joe Jackson didn’t show his sadness doesn’t mean he loved his son any less. It was probably the way he was raised. My father is really stern like that and I’ve only seen him break down a handful of times, but mostly behind closed doors. Some people just don’t know how to show it publicly, but I believe just like the rest of his family he loved his son just as much. It was his son! My prayers go out to the jackson kids and family. Ouch, how painful to lose your brother out of nowhere. You will never hear his voice again, you will never do anything with him again ever ever. Really sad. The picture of her and Michael was so cute.
Jamie Foxx sang like 10 songs or something the whole night, it was like the Jamie Foxx show, twas annoying. But it was short notice, so I’m sure it was just easier that way.
honestly i am glad that it’s janet who gave the speech, because she deserves it. she’s the one closest to michael and genuinely loves him, and you can hear her heartbreak in her voice during the speech. she was mourning the loss of her beloved brother who affectionately called her “dunk”, the one she realy cares about, and she (other than Jermaine) is the family member that Michael was close to, except his mother and three kids. my sympathy goes to janet and her family, especially to her mother and MJ’s three kids.
if at all they have to decide who will get the kids, i personally would like to see either MJ’s mother Katherine or Janet will get the kids, i don’t know why but i hope they will.

I do understand that these shows are to honor Michael and there will be many of them. I don’t get the family feeling THEY need to be there and Joe Jackson promoting his own business. As they say the ’show will go on’, even WITHOUT them. You’d think they’d be out of the limelight at least a while. Don’t tell me THIS is for the fans. Their son and brother just died, the Fans can handle themselves for a while and no one would hold it against them if they were grieving in PRIVATE. Although Michael seen closer to Janet, how much time do you think ANY of them spent with him in the last 5 years?

I believe Janet was genuine - there is love there for her brother. It is so sad to see him gone at such a young age. I feel for his kids - praying for them.
But Joe Jackson is an ass - what a brutal man - makes you understand some of the pain Michael went through in life.

Don’t believe the hype! he and his family has always been close. However, im sure they all have lives. You don’t have to spend every second with your love ones for them to know that u love them and vise versa. How cold was your statement. We will never know what that family is going through. Did you people even get your facts straight…. Janet and Latoya went with the moving trucks to retrieve Michael and his children belongings which is the right thing to do since this is a RENTED house.
