OlderJanet Jackson Honors Michael Jackson at BET Awards
Janet Jackson made a brief appearance onstage during the 2009 BET Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (June 28) in Los Angeles.
The 43-year-old sister of Michael Jackson honored her older brother during the ceremony, saying, “My entire family wanted to be here tonight but it was just too painful, so they elected me to speak to all of you. I’m going to keep it very short. To you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family. And he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family, and myself, thank you for all of your love. Thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”

After Janet left the stage, host Jamie Foxx and Ne-Yo sang a tribute duet to Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There.”

Just because Joe Jackson didn’t show his sadness doesn’t mean he loved his son any less. It was probably the way he was raised. My father is really stern like that and I’ve only seen him break down a handful of times, but mostly behind closed doors. Some people just don’t know how to show it publicly, but I believe just like the rest of his family he loved his son just as much. It was his son! My prayers go out to the jackson kids and family. RIP Michael

Ouch, how painful to lose your brother out of nowhere. You will never hear his voice again, you will never do anything with him again ever ever. Really sad. The picture of her and Michael was so cute.
Jamie Foxx sang like 10 songs or something the whole night, it was like the Jamie Foxx show, twas annoying. But it was short notice, so I’m sure it was just easier that way.
honestly i am glad that it’s janet who gave the speech, because she deserves it. she’s the one closest to michael and genuinely loves him, and you can hear her heartbreak in her voice during the speech. she was mourning the loss of her beloved brother who affectionately called her “dunk”, the one she realy cares about, and she (other than Jermaine) is the family member that Michael was close to, except his mother and three kids. my sympathy goes to janet and her family, especially to her mother and MJ’s three kids.
if at all they have to decide who will get the kids, i personally would like to see either MJ’s mother Katherine or Janet will get the kids, i don’t know why but i hope they will.

Joe Jackson seemed like nothing had happened, even dancing and smiling.. seemed very cold to me.. When Janet came out I started crying, you could sense the sadness from her… RIP Michael and Janet stay strong!

My guess, their next move will be for a Jackson 5 reunion tour with Janet.
I do understand that these shows are to honor Michael and there will be many of them. I don’t get the family feeling THEY need to be there and Joe Jackson promoting his own business. As they say the ’show will go on’, even WITHOUT them. You’d think they’d be out of the limelight at least a while. Don’t tell me THIS is for the fans. Their son and brother just died, the Fans can handle themselves for a while and no one would hold it against them if they were grieving in PRIVATE. Although Michael seen closer to Janet, how much time do you think ANY of them spent with him in the last 5 years?
I dont blame his fasmily for going to his house taking things,, if they didnt those other damn people would take it,, i see the pain in her eyes,, so sad and any witch that has something to say about child molesting, go on Bossip and look at the idiot lying boy who now says he lied and his father made him say that because they needed moey and were poor!! oh so you lie and ruin a persons reputaion for money… Karma is a witch and i never believed it in the first place true fans knew the truth..RIP MJ, we always will love you for the kind person you were !! I believe Janet was genuine - there is love there for her brother. It is so sad to see him gone at such a young age. I feel for his kids - praying for them.
But Joe Jackson is an ass - what a brutal man - makes you understand some of the pain Michael went through in life.
My heart breaks for Michael & his kids.
