Sarah Palin Resigns as Alaska Governor

Sarah Palin officially announced on Friday (July 3) that she will be resigning as governor of Alaska.

The 45-year-old, who was known as ‘Sarah Barracuda’ in high school, will serve as governor until July 26 before she hands the position over to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell.

“We know we can affect positive change outside government at this moment in time on another scale and actually make a difference,” said Sarah in a news conference in her hometown of Wasilla, Alaska. “I know when it’s time to pass the ball for victory.”

@KK: Sarah Palin cares more about her STATE and her FAMILY than her political career. She resigned for her state and her family. The onslaught to her, to her family, and to Alaska by media outlets is the worst in history. Many voters outside Manhattan and LA respect her and her abilities. John McCain would have gotten less votes if she were not on his ticket. There should be LAWS that prohibit Dave Letterman and other “comics” about her innocent CHILDREN. They even attack her little baby son. HORRIBLE journalism.

It Came from Wasilla

The pattern is inescapable: she takes disagreements personally, and swiftly deals vengeance on enemies, real or perceived.
Oh, dear…that cannot fly, Sarah Barracuda.

Paddisonluvr @ 07/03/2009 at 8:09 pm

I love Sarah. And to everyone who says she should have finished her term - she’s not a quitter, but she can’t always leave Alaska to raise money for other Republicans without being attacked by the Dems for spending too much money (and time away from her state). And if she helps other Republicans win, they’ll pay her back in 2012 if she wants it.

Oh yeah, and Obama is certainly trying to tax us all to death. So watch out - cap and trade is a disaster waiting to happen.

How is this JJ news????

I want gossip and entertainment - not moronic grandstanding.

@Jan:

Jan… who exactly attacked her son Trig?
I know Sarah Palin keeps saying people have attacked her son but I have yet to have seen anyone in the media attack her son. So despite the early rumors by BLOGGERS (not media) that Trig wasn’t her son, but her daughters’ who the hell talks about her son??????

NO ONE. That’s who.

Sarah Palin fanatics, much like Sarah Palin are delusional people, liars and act like petulant children. Grow up and get some thick skin.

@Paddisonluvr:

Nice try there but Obama is taxing people LESS than Ronald Reagan.

Your old conservative talking-points don’t measure up to the facts

And even if he does raise some taxes, the country is in a mess and historically you need to raise some taxes to clean up the mess Republicans left him. Its not fair that Republicans got to waste a surplus and use trillions of state dollars and Obama can’t when he actually wants to help fix this mess. Double standards and hypocrisy are the hallmark standards of the current GOP.

nobody steps down from a political post like that unless you are seriously ill - like terminally ill - or you have been investigated and you want to avoid the crap that will hit the fan. come on. be serious folks. she is stepping down cause something real fishy was discovered….baracuda got caught!

Best news I’ve heard all year. Now if we can just keep this woman OUT of public service, the country will be better off. She really needs to just stay at home and leave politics forever. She is nothing more than an embarrassment.

Her first interview will be with Conan O’Brien

Jokergurl @ 07/03/2009 at 8:52 pm

She made herself a joke really, which is not the smartest thing to do for a political figure. This is not surprising though.

She is quitting because she must. The two recent GOP scandals have cost a Governor and a Senator their seats due to adultry and fraud. It was a case of “step down, or be exposed and forced to resign.”

@Jokergurl: And yet she doesn’t seem to get that, huh? *roll eyes”

She truly is a pathetic creature but there’s RNC method to her madness in turning over the helm right now to another Republican. What she needs to understand, however, is that America doesn’t want her in the lower 48 States, again! Sick of the ignorant “snake in the grass” who brought down McCain’s campaign.

this country will not last long enough to see her as president OR another (dreaded) 4 yrs of Obama. Why can’t you stupid liberals wake up and see Obama is running us straight into the ground???

whortensia @ 07/03/2009 at 10:10 pm

A self confessed moron. She believes in creationism which is akin to believing that the sun orbits the earth. You have to be beyond stupid to believe in creationism.

She’s crazy and time will reveal exactly how much.

We can all blame John McCain for all this.

She would be silly to run for anything serious with this quitter move she just made.

Maybe she’s preggers again.

Don’t let the moose track hit you on the ass on the way out worthless
bish…

Congratulations-Alaska! @ 07/04/2009 at 12:00 am

@Emily: That’s what I kept thinking as I watched her press conference. She was catching her breath every few words… She was nervous, and did not look confident at all. I think she’s an ignorant, arrogant, loud mouthed twit, so I say good riddance. I hope she doesn’t run for anything - ever again.

Congratulations-Alaska! @ 07/04/2009 at 12:04 am

@u can’t always get what u want: She sounded AGITATED. She kept catching her breath, ranting and rambling on and on. Good riddance!

Congratulations-Alaska! @ 07/04/2009 at 12:07 am

@Marieme: It’s JJ news because, like it or not, right or wrong, some politicians are also celebrities nowadays.

Thank you Halli. I’ve been following the political discussions in various place and it always amazes me how REpublicans forget that George W Bush inherited a budget surplus and squandered it so that the Nation had no savings to fall back on when the economy turned sour, as all economies will.
.
Margaret Thatcher once said words to the effect that a country finances were not that different to a household’s finances. No family can keep spending more than it earns and not put some money away for a rainy day. No country can afford to do the same.
.
The USA spends more than 15% of GDP on healthcare and still have more than 10% of its population uninsured and God only knows how many more are UNDER insured. On a macro perspective, the US has the worse healthcare outcomes of all the developed world.
.
Sweden, Australia and many other countries can spend less and have better outcomes. No system is perfect but really, the healthcare system in the US is clearly faulty.
.
So, if taxes don’t go up, your infrastructure such as roads, telecommunication etc will start to fray. If you have ever had to deal with a country with brown outs, you’d start to understand the cost to the nation. Your governments have no choice, taxes will go up.
.
The problem is that the question is framed too simplistically. When it comes to taxes, it isn’t just about how much you have to pay but also what it is spent on and what the society values. If you want your bottom 10% to be uninsured for medical care, if you believe these people are just lazy, and that you earned everything you have, then what can anyone else say - except hope that experience will teach you some true humility.
.
On the bell curve of IQ, God placed 50% of people above average and another 50% below average. If we were placed on the above average category, I honestly think we must simply thank God for giving us the inherent ability which enabled us to grasp concepts more quickly, have better memories so that learning was easier for us and thinking was easier for us and so ultimately enabled us to get better, more high paying jobs.
.
But for those to whom much has been given, God asks us to give back a lot. We should all remember that.

She said she didn’t want to be a lame duck Governor. In the background, ducks are swimming on the water and quacking, as she’s talking. She’s a walking gag reel. Speaking of gagging, she said and I quote “… the world needs more Trigs.” Really? Does the world really need more children, like her son, Trig? I’m gonna leave that question out there, ’cause the absurdity of the statement is a perfect example of how this woman’s mind works. Unfortunately, we haven’t heard the last of, Sarah Barracuda, not if, Fox News, or Rupert Murdoch have anything to say about it.

Thank FREAKING GOD for this. Who in the hell let her be in office in the first place? Whoever it was, they need to be shot.

Quitter, quitter, loser LOSER!

SHE’S DONE! Trust me. If she ever tries to run for public office again, her opponents will remind people of how she quit as governor right in the middle of her term, betraying those who voted for her.
She will forever be labeled a quitter!
