Roger Federer Wins Wimbledon, 15th Major
Roger Federer wins his record 15th Grand Slam title at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Sunday (July 5) in London, England.
15 major championships — more than any man ever! The record was previously held by Pete Sampras with 14 championships.
The 27-year-old Swiss tennis champ beat Andy Roddick 5-7 7-6 7-6 3-6 16-14 in an epic Wimbledon match.
On Monday, Roger will reclaim the world number one spot from Rafael Nadal, who didn’t play this tournament because of a knee injury.
Congrats, Roger!!! 20+ pictures inside of Wimbledon winner Roger Federer…

intenseee matchhhh
Yeah! He is so great tennis player! He deserves it!!! Congrats!!!!
Andy put up a good fight, but I’m glad Roger won!
love him, he’s the best
yay!!! Congrats man
HE IS THE KING!!!!!!
Andy was robbed, I like rodger but he has 15 now could of let Roddick he played better but was just to exhausted at the end he had nothing left to give
Such a humble classy guy. Hope he and his lovely wife enjoy their soon to be new addition!!!
Correction, it wasn’t the longest match in history, it was the longest set. Still congrats Roger!!
Love it! So happy for Roger!!!!!
im glad roger won. andy roddick’s an a-hole, seriously. but rog was sportin some fly warm-ups.. he was big pimpin it………….
I just finished watching ,**** was crying :X
roger is the best that the earth has ever seen, sampras was jealous, but whatever, roger you rock, omg I’m so happy
Arghhh…Andy was soo close! Hopefully he can bounce back from this sad, very sad loss.
@Roger: Not human, brilliant tennis machine.
Cooh, wtf are you talking about?
Anyway, I wanted the American Roddick to win.
yeaaaaaaaaaaaah so happy he won, hes just amazing, love him, andy played great too but king roger is the best!!
andy played much better.. he should have won this match.. i cannot forget the end of the second set. andy was leading 6-2 and lost :( hopefully andy is going to kick his ass at the us open
i feel sorry for andy at the end, he really looked like he was gonna cry.
i still preferred the match last year - now THAT was intense!
can’t wait til rafa comes back next year and beats roger’s ass!
roger’s not humble or classy.
yeah he’s a great tennis player but he always trashes all of his opponents in his press conferences. he can never admit that when he loses it’s because the other player played well. it’s always some lame excuse, like the sun was in his eyes. Rod Laver will always be the greatest tennis player because he actually had to beat real players. Fed only won because Rafa was not there but he wont be winning the US Open!
I LOVE YOU ROGER !!!
I thought that Roddick deserved it more. He’s the real winner in my eyes.
Also sad that my favorite player and the BEST EVER, Pete Sampras lost his record.
POOR ANDY RODDICKKK!!!! I LIKE BOTH OF THEM BUT OH MAN I’M SAD AND HAPPY AT THE SAME TIMEEEE
Federer is graet. Roddick has never won a grand slam but he will eventually
Sensational match. I went out for breakfast at the end of the second set and couldn’t believe they were still playing when I returned a couple of hours later. I was hoping that Federer would break the record with the array of former champions on hand, but I wouldn’t have been disappointed with a Roddick win. It could have gone either way. Just great tennis!
you have to admit federer’s stats were much better though.. though he also had more unforced errors…
@eliza: touche!
wooooooooohhh!!!! go federer!!! :))))
I was rooting for Federer…which was funny because I was rooting for Nadal last year. I love them both.
congrats to federer!!! all hail the king!
roddick has won a grand slam, 2003 US open
I know Fed’s the greatest but I still think that Roddick was robbed. This is coming from someone who never thought much of Roddick at all.
I know Fed’s the greatest but I still think that Roddick was robbed. This is coming from someone who never thought much of Roddick at all.
GO SWISSE!!!!!!
I think that Andy deserved to win he fought so hard and he has never won wimbledon. I felt so sorry for him i have been fan of his for years and have watched him loose to many times. He is always good but just not good enough. I hope to see him win it one year! I have never cried watching sports, but i did today when Andy lost.
CONGRATS!!!
It sure wasn’t easy, he earned and worked for it for more than 4 hours, i am so happy for you Roger, you are in the history books now!
@jonny:
Roddick won the US Open in 2003 and really should’ve won this one, such a pity
great match! andy was sooooo close w/ that double break-pt in the last set… ugghhh. nice try, andy! next time (us open is just around the corner)! w/ federer’s stats, it was his match to control; either he won it or lost it. congrats, federer! i loved that netjets commercial afterwards. too funny.
Oh!! I LOVE YOU ROGER!!!
Roddick was playing first rate tennis and Federer was only playing second or third rate tennis. If Roger hadn’t thrown 50 aces Andy would have won.
Congratulations Federer!!…Brilliant, insane…both the guys deserve a SHOUT-OUT!!…felt really bad for Roddick though…he really gave Federer a run for his money..but i guess that’s wt makes the victory sweeter n that much more thrilling…but man the patience n tirelessness with which they played the match was just INSANE…phenomenal!! Kudos to both the guys!!
Congrats Roger!
Thanks for acknowledging Rafa in your interview. It made me less sad that he won’t be number one anymore.
Roger’s wife Mirka looked soooo old next to Brooklyn (Andy’s wife)!!!
and i’m so happy that Roger and Mirka are expecting thiere first baby ((( ::::
Yaay Roger!! You’re the best!!
I hate Roger!!
Rafa is the real number 1
He’s fantastic..he’s such a good boy, I like him so much..the match was incredible and I felt sorry for Roddick: he played so well too..W W W Roger….
He deserves it. He’s the best.
Congratulations!!!
@Laura:
not anymore,rafa is old news
Pathetic…Only time he’s able to win is when Rafa isn’t there…It surprising that it took him 5 sets to beat his personal punching bag (Roddick)
CONGRATS ROGER!!!!!! AWESOME FREAKING MATCH. You are truly the best ever
I felt bad for Andy, cause he was incredible, but I am so damn happy that Roger. He is my boy
ya, I dont think roger was that humble, how could he be with that record, but I’m very proud of the hard effort andy roddick put forth and I know that he will win another tournament soon. Andy was very mature and humble during his interview, and that says alot.
A true champion…not just exceptional talent but a man of grace, class and integrity. I wish him and his wife the best with the birth of thier first child. Unlike some athletes there will probably give a simple public statement and picture. Period. Like I said true class and talent.
HUGE congrats to Roger, but I have to say — Roger wasn’t playing first rate. He barely won. Andy played exceptionally well. He’s finally maturing. This should have been his win.
I MISS RAFA so much!!
A true champion knows how to both win and lose with class and respect for thier opponent…Roger is one of them and always will be.
I was so devestated that Andy lost…we can all give Roger credit…he has the record, he’s amazing, etc. BUT…who did not feel for Andy today? He played so brilliantly…it felt like his tournament to win and I couldn’t believe he walked away empty handed…
And I smirked a bit when Roger tried to claim he knew how it felt to lose and Andy said, “yeah, you’ve already won 5…” I hate it when people who have won 100 times try to console someone who has never had that opportunity…it was a ridiculous statement for a guy who just won 15 and Andy has 1…
I am still shocked and feel so sympathetic towards Andy…
To dria: Im not sure we watch the same interview with Roger…Ive been a fan for many years and have watched many of his interviews and not sure what ones you have. Id love for media to run them back to back and point out where and how many times he is doing what you say he is. He has earned the reputation he has both on and off the court for reason.
BTW Roger has beat Rafa before and yes vice versa….both played the French open this year. Roger even offered Rafa a ride on his plane when they were both coming to the U.S. to play and Rafa accepted. The two of them obviously operate at a level of mutual respect and maturity that some of their fans dont. That’s why both are champions.
Gah! IM SO MAAAD! I thought roddick really should have won he played brilliantly the match was so close! I think roddick displaced traits of a champion. I was never really a fan but now i think hes amazing. AND I HAATEEE Roger Federer im sorry i know everyone thinks hes so classy and amazing but he just gets on my nerves he is not humble at all he trys so hard but hes so fake. AND lets be honest if Rafa was not injured right now he would have been the champion and when Rafa gets better Roger will no doubt be at a final crying once again. And Roddick will no doubt defeat roger in the us open!
I watched it and towards the end was so nervous watching, I was rooting for Andy Roddick and he played better but Federer was too desperate to make a record for himself. He didn’t deserve to win it, Andy played better. I’m hopeful he is going to win it if not next year the year after. I’m sure he will beat Federer next time.
That was a good match. Congrats to Roger. I have a feeling that Andy will be winning a major very soon.
the greatest ever, yoiu go roger
That was a long one and I watched the whole thing while everyone else was outside having fun in the sun! LOL
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
HE WINS THE TITLE BUT ANDY STILL GETS THE HOT MODEL WIFE!
what a final, wow
Great match (but not as epic as last year’s final), total nail biter!
roddick is my winner…love andy…next year andy you will win because you deserve it
ALL IS WELL IN THE TENNIS WORLD AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :)
congratulations!!
So did Serena Williams………………….. Did I miss that post?
I mean Serena won against her sister not that she won 15th grand slams but she deserves some recognition 2.
this should have been roddicks match. he deserved it and btw he won the us open in 2003 and was in 4 grand slam finals. to me he was the better player today
im not his fan, i prefer nadal
who im sure would have made this guy cry again in the finals
but i gotta congratulate the guy, it’s really amazing
15 majors!! im a nadal fan and all but i dont think nadal will ever reach that
im watched some of it, i was really hoping andy would win, i had some hope after the 1st set but sadly he lost =[
I felt bad for Andy. The poor boy never lived up to the early hype. But he gave it his all today. I hope he wins it one day.
i was team roddick and federer.. a little more roddick but anyways congrats! keep breaking records fedex
@jonny:
Andy has won 1 grandslam… he won the USOpen in 2003

Andy was robbed, I like rodger but he has 15 now could of let Roddick he played better but was just to exhausted at the end he had nothing left to give
If Roddick was exhausted and had nothing left to give… How was he robbed? So because Roger had 14, he should have given the match to Andy… I believe Andy would be offended by ‘getting’ a major…
@anon: obviously you’re purposely avoiding his pressers because i could show you excerpts from Fed’s interviews where he’s being a complete jackass. only a few players respect Fed as a person because he’s always talking badly about others and boosting his own ego simultaneously. even commentators, including Brad Gilbert, have criticized Fed for unnecesarily badmouthing his fellow players. know your stuff before you make a stupid statement next time.
Roger Federer wouldn’t have won this title if Rafael Nadal wasn’t injured. Same with the french.
YES…………………. Roger the GOAT.
Congratst to Fed on the record and getting his number 1 spot back. Who cares with Rafa let’s see if he can beat that record or even get to 10 since some people think he is that great. Rafa’s brand of tennis is hard on the body as he already has chronic knee issues. Go Roger love him.
yays!congratz roger!!!!#1 yeah!
I’m way late in commenting, but thanks for the thread Jared!
.
Roger rocks! Many congrats to Roger on winning his 15th Grand Slam and 6th Wimbledon title! He needs 1 Wimbledon to tie Pete Sampras and I’d love to see him get another 5 Slam titles and put up a total number that’ll stand for a long time. He’s still got the US Open this year so hopefully it won’t take too long to get #16. Way to go, Roger!
awsome match.congrates to federer.
great match & finally the champ won!
Federer remember Nadal after the martch. For me this is much.
The people remember the tears of Roger. Well, Andy is in tears, too.
I respect the people with hearth.
Nadal is injured, yes, but the world don’t stop for this.
I don’t ear Roger badmoutin his rivals.
Most awaiting moment
#78, for the record, nadal already lost in the 4th round. he wasnt injured then.
anyhow, congrats to federer. really intense match but glad it all paid off!
CONGRADS!!! LOVE FIFTHEEN :D ROGER THE KING OF TENNIS
I Love U,Roger. He Is The Best ;) King Of Tennis!
Another well deserved wimbledon title!!
My sports Hero
yeaaaaaa fed. awww a-rod. also sucdks for rafa being injured. good match. congrats to serena too.
how can Roddick deserve this more than Federer?
it ain’t Federer’s fault that Roddick couldn’t put a high backhand volley in the court while Federer was 2 feet behind the baseline and it floated long after being 4 set points UP
for those saying that Roddick deserved it how?
Federer hit 50 aces to 27 for Roddick
Federer had 223 winners to 213 for Roddick
Federer hit 38 errors to 33 for Roddick
4 double faults EACH
how can anyone blame Federer for Roddick not winning more slams?
Roddick has lost in slams to the likes of
Marat Safin at the 2004 Aussie Open
Gilles Muller at the 2005 at the USO when in the First round
Marcos Baghdatis at the 2006 Aussie Open
Andy Murray at the 2006 Wimbledon
Richard Gasquet at the 2007 Wimbledon after being UP 2 sets and a break !
Philip Kohlschreiber at the 2008 Aussie Open
Janko Tipsarevic at the 2008 Wimbledon
Novak Djokovic at the 2008 USO
you seen I’m being kind to Roddick and his deranged fans who think that he “deserves” this match since I left out his annual losses in the French Capital
Congratulation to Roger! An epic match.
At the beginning of the match, I want Federer to win but toward the end, my heart was with Roddick, he had given his all and I believe it was his best of the best tennis yesterday. Congratulation to Roddick, you have giving Roger something to think about before the U.S. Open.
poor roddick he played so well :(
@dria:
we’ll see! and actually he’s very humble and classy..in fact he’s always been one of the most classy players! Andy is an absolute a- hole…he’s so cocky! Federer respects the game and he always admits defeat and admits he wasn’t playing well or the other player was the better player.. I should know..I ACTUALLY WATCH HIS PRESS CONFERENCES. Anyway no matter what you or anyone else says..he’s the greatest tennis player of all time! and one question- who won the last time rafa and roger played..oh ye ROGER
lol. nice pic :DDD
