Rachel Weisz: Ban Botox!

Rachel Weisz: Ban Botox!

Rachel Weisz doesn’t dig the frozen faces of Hollywood, she tells the August 2009 issue of UK’s Harper’s Bazaar (via Fox News).

“It should be banned for actors, as steroids are for sportsmen,” the 39-year-old British actress says of Botox. “Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?”

As for fashion, Rachel says, “I love the way girls in London dress; it’s so different to the American ‘blow-dry and immaculate grooming’ thing.”

@kiska:

Met Rachel recently and no, she did not have any work done. You’re full of ****.

P.S. She right in her opinion, i work as a production assistant and you can automatically tell if someone had any Botox injections in their face, it looks unnatural. and they do lose some facial features because of it.

I admired Rachel for calling this out. It needs to be address more often, especially the damage it does to you body.

i like rachel and i agree 100% with what she said. they are trying to take the imperfections out of art, and that is where the greatest art is found in the humaine and withing faults…but you would think artisans like directors, writers, actors, make up artists, costume makers, set makers, etc…would understand all that sh*t but i guess this is just another byproduct of the typical hollywood machine. this is why post porduction, image correction and all that stuff is so popular. things always need to be just right. anyways i like rachel, and i’m probably not going to read the entire interview, but she doesn’t disappoint. the cover looks super photoshopped. i think one thing someone said about brooke shield at the mj memorial was that they are very glad that her face moves and that she has wrinkels. i mean i may not be one to judge, although i do judge, but i just think people need to embrace their flaws. i am not one to talk though since it’s a hard thing to do (easy when you’ve done it) but it’s definately not for the weak minded/spirited. the best people are the ones who look like they have character and not the plastic looking ones. definately. plastic is not real nor is it true…it’s an artiface.

I had some Botox injected in my face to get rid of some lines that i did not like and it was one of the biggest mistakes that i ever made. It was painful and i did have to got to the doctor after a few days because my face puffed up. I say more power to Rachel for saying the truth about this and i hope there is some action to control this.

I still like her after these comments from her . . . but still she has a negative perception of women in America. Obviously, she must have met only a few . . . I don’t know where she gets that perception . . .
Botox and steroids are not totally the same thing . . .

but botox if used properly can keep you looking attractive and thats whats important with females in that industry.
——————————————————————–
there’s something so wrong in this comment made by another person that i’m just sad as i type this. emphasis on the important part right and the attractiveness factors. cause that’s all we want our females to be. botox and silicone, and all these inctables and all that ****. tits ass nice nose nice eyes no wrinkles nice chin etc…gosh. i can’t believe money is spent on image and that image is so important/actual holds ground in this world when there are far more important things. it’s actually very sad/depressing. i’m off to get injected and have an augmentation or whatever **** people do. technology/science is great…but sometimes it’s just too much. pushing boundaries is good and all but where are the parameters, where’s the counter-balance, when do we stop.

@eliza:

I don’t think Rachel has a negative perception of women in America at all, she talking more about style than people. As for Botox and steroids, they are pretty much in the same league and both of them needs to be baned.

. . . nothing wrong with botox really . . . I didn’t think Rachel has that bad a perception of American women…. heaven knows what else she says about them geeezzz, she should know that genetics is unfair at times. Science is the thing of the future, like or not. Many commenters against botox will be dead in 50 years or so, and science will prevail!

Botox can cause very serious medical complications and i’m surprised that the medical industry is getting away with mutilating people’s faces like that.

Bravo Rachel for bring this to light in a public way.

Why do some people here assume that she’ll automatically use it in 10 years? She’ll maybe chose the same path as her british fellow actresses:Vanessa Redgrave,Helen Mirren,Judi Dench have worked steadily across the years without messing with their faces.
True, they haven’t scored the hot babe eye candy parts in blockbusters or being chosen to be Chanel faces but have at least an interesting career in films and on stage.Maybe Ms Weisz thinks it’s more rewardind this way.
Some US actresses,too, like Susan Sarandon seem to think that relying on your acting capacity is enough.I’ll take her wrinkled face over the frosty mask of a Faye Dunaway anyday.

and as much as i like american fashion…as a student of fashion we know that the style isn’t it, even though it seems like the american designers are they one’s that win all the awards or are the most prominent, but that isn’t the whole truth. that’s he opinion. she can say it and stand by it. i happen to also agree with her on that style aspect. there are more people overseas who have more style and innate fashion know how than you will ever see in new york, california, miami, chicago, or any of the other major markets. really. and also gosh she’s not a twit eliza or whoever keeps making the point about the steriods and the botox being similar in the comparison she is making. usually you would think they have no similarities because they are used for different purposes/but really aren’t they all dealing with correcting imperfections in the end, one in supposed strength and endurance, and one in promoting beauty that is not the original makeup of that person. so they are infact dealing with the same thing about human frailties whether physical, or mental, but definately with perception which is another common, and i don’t even think that’s her main point. he main point is that it has become a default aspect that people go for just like steroids has become the default aspect of sports. it’s the whatever can get me going/made syndrome…me me me all the time me thing. oh well. i know i’m long and drawn out but that’s what she’s talking about. so please actually look at what she’s saying instead of just living and being complacent with the surface meaning. you and are not incorrect but she can make that comparison. you just need to analyze it more and see why it makes sense.

1) Anybody who thinks that Rachel was putting down american women is an idiot. She’s talking about certain styles fashions and comparing them to the UK.

2) Botox should be banned, it really helps no one and it does more harm than good in the long run.

@Jane shut up, i never implied you. How narcissistic of you to think that I was even talking directly to you. I was making a general statement.

he=her and i meant you and her are not incorrect eliza.

@tgk:

People who are saying that Rachel will be using Botox in ten years are only trying to defend the drug and making every excuse known to man to justify it.

@min:

yeah i can’t wait to become a robot, or a clone, or whatever science and technology can make me become. i always loved enhanced humans in comic books and in the tv world. infact scratch that…it would be better if we were all recreated and were not human. i am as much a fan of sci and tech as i am of reality, and as much as i hate being a regular human like my fellow people…i am happy being human. i like it. i like being alive. i like my imperfections even if it’s a constant emotional and mental battle. gosh. we are not all the same and we cannot be made into sameness. there is some of this stuff that just isn’t right…but to each their own. i mean we can still do the whole my a$$ is bigger than yours argument but i can always chime in and say hey i had some lipo or whatever fat injected into my cheeks. lol. life’s grand.

I will never inject botox in my face and i respect Rachel for having enough sense to do the same.

It’s a very surprising photo shoot of Rachel. She usually is so natural and discret and now she looks so sexy and fatal. Well, I think she is pretty in both ways. She has a different kind of beauty, very unique, and is so talented, a special and sensible actress. Thank you by the great pics, Jared.

Jane @ 07/09/2009 at 2:13 am @Stephanie: How is it a fair comparison? When using botox you’re doing it to yourself. Like steroids yeah, but steroids is used to cheat. You dont deserve to win if you use steroids
———————————————————————————-
of course it is a fair comparison. lol. both of them apply to the use on oneself and also that change also affects the surrounding especially if you are talking about how steroids affects the user and those around the user…the same reasoning can be used for botox. they are actually not that indifferent. botox and steroids are all both forms of cheating. you cheat at life. you cheat yourself. you cheat your surroundings, physical or other. looking pretty and havingn all these procedures is considered winning in the image realm, is it not, and doesn’t that relate to your reference of steroids being used to cheat or not deserving a win in the sports realm. i think you would be more correct if you said instead that YOU DON’T DESERVE TO WIN IF YOU USE BOTOX OR STEROIDS OR BOTH. same sh*t different name.

@Sally:

“Botox can cause very serious medical complications and i’m surprised that the medical industry is getting away with mutilating people’s faces like that.
Bravo Rachel for bring this to light in a public way.”

Hi, we have the same and I think the same opinion about what you said above too. I mean, I’m not completly against botox or any beauty treatment, but I think there is an abusive use of that and this is so negative in so many ways. It’s good to see someone like Rachel saying that.

I intent to say: the same nicknames. ;)

Hahaha——–she is right after all…….american girls pretty much all look the same.

haha so true what rachel said. i look over here on the tele you can tell (if the sound is off) just by appearance whether a girl is amercian or otherwize. those girls do have blown dried hair and bleached teeth, fake tan and what not. and they look like clones of eachother.
it’s not about looking clean, cuz you have more chemical sh*t on your faces then here. (thank goodness) rachel is talking about having a natural sense of style and creativty. indeed take a look on london or hong kong, tokyo streets. scales will fall of your eyes

cool if you get Photoshopped for few hours before your images hit the magazine - who needs Botox. The amount of money she spends on facials is still going to be more than what I earn. She is still one of my favourites, though. One day - she will go all natural like Bridget Bardot and nobody will want to talk to her :)

haahaha. i don’t care if she becomes one of those who keeps being herself without changing her features. she’ll still be good though even if some people think she’ll be ugly. i really like natural wrinkels…but that’s just me.
