David Beckham is a Jersey Boy
David Beckham checks out of his New Jersey hotel with the rest of his LA Galaxy team on Friday morning (July 17).
Yesterday, the 34-year-old soccer player, played against the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ.
Becks said, “The most important thing is for us to get three points, and tonight we did that in style.”
“Obviously the first year was impressive,” he said. “We’re in a recession so, you know, maybe that’s part of it,” Beckham said of the dwindling crowds in attendance. Los Angeles drew 66,237 when they faced the Red Bulls two years ago and was down to 23,238 this year.
The Galaxy defeated the Red Bulls 3-1.

wow. that’s a lot of people who didn’t show up. i see mls is feeling the recession too. gosh i like david beckham, but his voice, his wife, his need to look perfect all the time really turn me off.

The dwindling crowd is because he was too busy playing model and Hollywood star he forgot to be interested in his team. Oh, then there’s that whole wanting to stay in ITALY thing he was trying to negotiate behind everyone’s back. Maybe the fans just got sick of him and his pretentiousness.

lol. even injured just having beckham come to toronto raised their seasons tickets sales and sold out the bmo field. it was/is disgusting. i didn’t even know mls was still going on :P

One of the most hardworking footballers of all time. Really love him but not his wife. Don’t really like the wife but she is a very funny gal. Even though the attendance was low, David can still pull the crowd. Way to go David!!
Maybe it is not the recession. Maybe people are just tired of him and his wife and all the publicity they get. Sometimes it is a little over-kill. He isn’t the only good-looking player on that team.

Still a freasonable Beckham-bump, with regards to the attendance this year, considering the fact that the attendance was more than double the Red Bulls’ previous home average this year of 11,385.
In addition, this game was played on a weekday - Thursday, while the previous ones were on a weekend - Sunday.

I was there the past 2 years at his games and it was SO much fun (and i hate sports). I was going to go this year but I had no money. If he’s back next year, I will DEFINITELY go!
Dwindling crowds down to recession, huh? Really, when has lack of money stopped crazy ass sports fans supporting their team? Of course he would not like to mention that the Galaxy fans he charmed over the last few years may have left due to the fact he abandoned them to go to Italy to play ‘proper’ football. He is only back at Galaxy because even as the big star that he his, he is at 34 yeards too old for AC Milan to be splashing the cash on his ‘old’ ass to buy him out of his current contract and 2)Galaxy grew a pair and didn’t let team Beckham management bully them into releasing him either. So, now Beckham is back in the U.S right where he don’t wanna be but faking it like a pro.
