Melanie Oudin is Phenom-enal!
Tennis phenom Melanie Oudin of the U.S demonstrates her grit and determination during her 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over tennis hottie Maria Sharapova of Russia in the 3rd round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Saturday (September 5).
The 17-year-old phenom fought like a champion and overcame the former U.S. Open Champion in the tough third set. Good luck Melanie!

ugh maria, what a disappointment.
Melanie is great tennis player..
Come on Mel, you can do it! :)
Go Oudin :)
We favorite idol Justine Henin
First of all, Americans, this girl did not beat Maria Sharapova. Maria Sharapova LOST the match. She handed the match over with 21 double faults and 60 unforced errors, due in part to a shoulder injury. Despite this, Maria hung on until the last minute in this game. If Maria was on her game, this girl would’ve gotten bagels.

Hahah nice try, honey you can spin it as you wish, there is no such thing as “handing over” the match, what a idiotic thing to say!!!
Oudin whooped her ar*e, despite the fact that Maria was awful, she was given no chance by Melanie, so pleaseee sell that crazy elswhere!!
Maria looked terrified of Oudin’s forehand, poor soul heading home, while Melanie stays a contender, deal with it!
Cone one Jared, she’s far away from being a top 10 players, sharapova gives her the match. And now all the media come after her
Great drive and determination. It also goes to show you don’t have to be a screamer to win!!! Thanks, Melanie for hanging tough and being a class act!!!
That instant he learned, does not come highly favored …
great

The media bandwagon can kill the player. The girl has some brain in her head. She’s precise and smart, but too small and not that powerful. She’s playing better in the second set now.
The US media acting as IF this girl is ONLY teenager to do well at slams. Martina Hingus won her first GS at 16 or 17, Maria Shavapova won Wimby at 16 or 17. Serena won the US open at 17. Venus made the US open final at 17.
@TRuth:
That’s complete and utter bullcrap, and only a piss poor excuse for Maria getting beat. The Williams sisters often use the same excuse as if no one can actually beat them at their game. When you get beat, you get beat. I don’t care how it happens. There is no difference losing one way or another, when you lose you are done. Maria is done for this tournament.
Melanie Oudin fights when she is up and down. She doesn’t give up or play the sweet southern peach roll when she’s on the court or during interviews. Her energy and skill should be admired. As to her being given any match. every win in tennis is based on the skill, determination, health and talent of both players.
Wendy, you’re an idiot. If Maria was on her game, this little girl would’ve gotten bagels. Do you honestly think she could’ve beaten Maria if Maria was on her game? Non!
She’s nothing more than American hype.
Furthermore, this girl will NEVER come close to accomplishing anything Maria or the Williams sisters have accomplished. Never.
When she wins Wimbledon at 17 or the US Open at 17, then we can start talking.
QQQQ, You’re right. It’s just American hype. This girl has not accomplished any great feat.
Maria, Serena, Martina Hingis were far more accomplished at 17 than she is. It’s the American media jumping on her because she’s American and white.

Also going back 20+ yrs… Tracy Austin beat Chris Everett at 16 and I think won the US open at 17.
Yay America
…but let’s not overdo it. Wish I’d seen it!
Anyway, she sounds like Sharapova, then again, she was battling even her father not believing she could do it at the time.
i hate her man, i was rooting for maria
i wanted to see her face one of the williams in the finals, would have been perfect
but sadly, she got beat
im rooting for dinara safina, but that girl cant win for shiz, she just breaks down at the end

Glad Maria was more gracious in defeat then you seem to be. You only cheat yourself with this kind of diminishing comment; special moments become dismissed as something lesser.
At this point you can truly see that they are cheating for her.
Oudin was good but not exceptionally great. If she was then she would have won that second set. Maria was playing really bad though with al lthose double faults and errors. Sigh… gonna have to wait til next year. Maria’s probably done for good now. She’s no longer doing well in tournaments because of that serve.
