OlderHugh Jackman: Reel Steel Robot Boxing!
Hugh Jackman has robot boxing on his mind. The 40-year-old Aussie actor is set to star in Real Steel, directed by Shawn Levy (The Pink Panther, Night at the Museum).
Via Variety: “Pic is a Rocky-with-robots saga, with Jackman is negotiating to play an ex-fighter who becomes a promoter when human boxing is outlawed for being too violent. The new gladiators are 2000-pound robots with human qualities. The ex-fighter’s access to sub-standard robot parts hampers his hopes for glory in Robot Boxing, until he discovers a discarded robot that always seems to win. The ex-fighter has also discovered he’s the father of a 13-year old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top.”
Sounds like a fun flick!
Last night, Hugh and Daniel Craig opened their Broadway play A Steady Rain, which ends its sold-out limited run on December 7.

Hugh, I love you but this is a big, big no. Maybe if Spielberg would actually direct it, then this wouldn´t be so bad but no for Levy! That guy is an incredibly average director.

it’s Rocky meets WallE meets Over the Top.
And at the end, after the guy and the kid rebuild the old robot together and it wins the championship and he has the money to tell the grandfather to stick it (and don’t forget the mother is now tragically dead), Hugh and the Robot and the Kid will break out into song as the credits roll.
