Hi All! This is my first brangelina POST! Im writting in because my local papers wrote some intersting stuffs about the brangelina relationship abt who wears the pants in the relationship. Here goes: " ..More recently, look at BP, come to heel at the shirttails of AG, clearly the dominant one in that relationship.
It may be hackneyed, but it's also natural for bosses and leaders to go home and hv the wife take charge.
It's the relief of getting out of the work shoes and into the house slippers.
Nothing to do with social role and position. A married man happily surrenders control to the woman of the house, often taking pride in the jest, "She's the boss".
And when it's a couple who've been joined at the hips for decades, in particular a powerful man who knows adversity and enemies, his wife is the only one he can trust.

Thanks for your interesting comment. In Japan, it is thought to be a male-dominant society but in reality it is the housewives who control the finance and decisions in the house. Quite a duality in the society.

I personally find it endearing should Brad defer to Angie for the major decisions. It shows himself to be a supremely confident man to allow the woman the reins in the relationship. I'm certain Brad has areas of the relationship where he is in control.

Great pictures! Cute one of Brad picking up the bottle. I, too, have a baby and I am constantly picking up baby bottles. Sometimes my baby likes to tease me and throws the bottle away on purpose. He's a little prankster that just likes to see Mommy picking up his mess.

As far as who wears the pants in the family - did you notice they both wear pants - literally? :) But I have to say that speaking from experience when I was pregnant, I tended to favor pants because they were more comfortable for me. Angie looks good in a dress, and I'm sure once the baby is born, she will feel like dressing up more again.

Back to the subject at hand, Brad and Angelina are truly people that have their own minds, but I believe that they are both happy letting the other take the reins in the relationship. They are both very equal in everything, in the face of Hollywood, and in the face of real life. Some pictures, you see Brad leading the family unit and in others, you see Angie. They are only competitive with each other in good fun and in good humor. Brad supports Angie when she is working and Angie supports Brad when he is working. When I say support, I mean in the context that they visit each others' sets and make the time to be together. They really are a true family now.

Brad looks happy, and if Angie looks a bit too tired, please remember that she is in her last trimester. Those last few months are always the toughest!

I agree that the haters will be coming in soon and make it a point to say something bad. People like those make up their mind as soon as they wake up every morning to see the negativity of everything in life, and transcend it to the lives of others. I personally wish to say to the regulars, keep posting those beautiful long posts about Brad and Angie. It's what I come here to read, and I make every effort to ignore and "skip over" the haters.

Looks like Brad is wearing a sling to carry baby Z! I think men LOVE wearing babies and it's a great bonding experience. My husband wore Baby Bjorn everywhere for both of my kids, even inside the house! Men can wear them longer as they get bigger---I had to switch to stroller but he wanted to keep Baby Bjorn as long as he could. Brad is LOVING this, I tell you!

As for haters who come here, there is no other reason to spew hate on something so benign as family photos, but their own issues and personal problems. So yes, I also skip reading them as it's a waste of time.

Those kids are just darling and clearly content. I love seeing this family out and about. However, I would like to see more tender moments between B and A. (even though its really none of our business) Cant help it.........I want to see it all. I love em.

I don't think that AJ will be happy with BP. I think he is selfish and can't make her happy. I think she needs a lot more love than BP could give to her. That's why JA is far more suitable for him, because she's as selfish and cold as him.

Brad's always been involved in a lot of political subjects. He went to South Africa for Bono's DATA group long before he meet Angelina. The difference now is that he met someone who shared his beliefs, wants to help and isn't afraid of going to any of these places. I's empowering for both of them I'm sure

In reference to Brad and world issues. It's true, he's always been involved in causes. With the exception of China/Tibet and South Africa he just hadn't visited many of these places. The pictures may not be interesting but it's interesting as a picture of the mundane part of their lives. Even we, ordinary common folks, wonder what celebrities do during their off time and if they do the same things common folks do. The answer is YES.

They actually shop as a family. It shows outside of the bodyguard, the driver and some of their expensive spending, they don't behave too differently from commoners. They don't run around like most of the superstars with their entourages doing everything for them.

So the pictures, though dull (cause you know we would much prefer to see the family having fun and being affectionate with each other) do shine a light on the ordinary phase of their lives.

Brad Pitt can play any part in a movie, anon. He is wrapping of the JJ movie. Brad looks hot.

Whenever they have the kids they have Mickey on security with them but when they're together they don't have anyone. It's good to see Brad like that. Pagesix had a sighting yesterday of BP and AJ lookalikes being mobbed in hotel in NYC. Mobbed and it wasn''t the real thing! I can't wait till they go to their first movie premiere. Its gonna be madness, and they will look so hot. People keep hating on Brad but that guy are pulled off ever hair colour and facial hair so far and he's 42!

I think it's cute that the Jolie-Pitt family have graduated to a van in Paris. I usually saw them in SUVs and trucks.

Just something cute I noticed - the van they are utilizing now for transportation purposes looks like the one they were driving in Mr and Mrs Smith. Love those sliding doors!

Yeah I noticed that Mickey is usually around only when Brad and/or Angie have the kids with them. As high profile stars, it's a good precaution to have security for their children's sake even when France is relatively safer than the States (don't think the good ol' USA didn't have our racial riots!).

Vans are great for a growing family and it's better in fuel efficiency than SUVs.

I am not a hater... I love to see people in love but come on!!! He cheated on his wife, knocked up his girlfriend and I am supposed to be impressed. Get divorced...get married and than get pregnant. I actually read something along this line regarding Jolie-Pitt and I wish I could find it again. Anyway, it basically said the same thing, and that BP shouldn't be considered subserviant, that he actually likes AJ's taking charge/the lead in some area's of their relationship. He doesn't have the machismo attitude of some who feel the need to be the king of the castle, and ruler of the home. The article said that they were two strong take charge personalities, and there would be times when they did butt heads, but this is where communication is very important, and that they seem to have that covered.

I don't think it's been a sudden interest, but one that has steadily grown, but I don't know what planted the seed. Some think he didn't become involved in humaniterian issues until he met Angelina, but I think he "internally" started to feel a pull towards doing more long before, and I think it really first came out via Bono's introducing him to some issues, and asking him for his assistance with them, and which he gave.

From there he become part of the campaign to end poverty "ONE". He's made trips to Africa, and produced the documentary about that followed the journey of the 3 young men forced to leave their wartorn homeland that went on to win first prize at this year's Sundance. Of course since he HAS been with Angelina, he's shared in helping where some of the causes she champions, but I suspect he's got some special one's he feels just as compelled to lend his time, money & voice to.

True - Brad always looks content with the kids...never with jolie - she always looks peeved when they're together. angelina has been known to embrace her children's cultures, so I doubt Zahara or Maddox will grow up with an identity issue. BAMZ fans are talking about what a wonderful 'family' this is and how supportive Brad is as a father. Yet, you bash other people for their "moralistic" views?

It has nothing to do with morality. You simply cant accept the fact that people just dont like Brangelina for many reasons. When someone takes another man or woman like that after they've proclaimed such ethics, it looks fishy. When a woman goes and does what Angelina does, after she tries to act so much like an angel, she's a hypocrite. Plain & simple!

No one likes a person who gets together with someone's spouse just to find a mother or father for them. But the fact that they do not COME OUT with the relationship just goes to show you how sorry this relationship will end up becoming. Their relationship is based on passion, it's fairly obvious looking at last year's events and especially Angelina's past. Relationships that have alot of responsibilities like their's is not so simple to maintain. Brad maybe a monogamous man but looking at his past relationships, like tom Cruise, I don't think it'll last with AJ.

Sure, there are people who get married after such a short time of dating and last a very, very long time. I've witnessed it many times! But those are simple people or people who have had nothing to hide or do not have the same type of pressure that these celebrity couples do. Brangelina are on a different level.

Angelina just does things on the impulse. Example, her marriage to BillyBob after only 3 months of dating. They proclaimed their love for each other and were so into each other and shared so many things. But look what happens, BillyBob leaves her. AND MANY PEOPLE KNEW IT WAS NOT GOING TO LAST. Angelina thought, well how can this happen? Granted Maddox may have had something to do with it, but then how come BillyBob has a new baby now? So, kids arent the issue. It was her and BillyBob expressed that in a serious interview.

And now Angelina's going ahead and doing the same thing with Brad. I think he wont be able to handle it eventually. And I think she's shoving things down his throat. They jumped into this too quickly. The job of Acting is not rocket science. So these actors are just as mindless as we are if not more so, viewing the past history of celebrity couples.

If they loved each other so much, why dont they express it more? Why arent they talking about it?

Granted they have the right idea... that is, share common goals. But dont rush into it, because you dont know how those goals will work out, especially as a celebrity.

I thought this would be a good place to jump in. Before I was adopted at the age of 7, I lived mosty on the streets of a 3rd world country. I have been picked because I was too light skinned, too dark skinned. too skinny, too smart, too rich, too poor, too educated etc. I can't tell you how many times I have been called an "Oreo" or "coconut". I learned that people who do not feel good about themselves in a healthy way tend to try to even it out by attempting to bring the other /others down to their level by finding something , anything they they think of to make the other person/persons feel bad about themselves. They pick at wherever is different about the other person. It is not always about color .

I remember when I was about 13. I was in a market in my country of my birth with my adopted Mother. My mother was obviously a different race than I was, blonde, fair , blue eyes... But I thought I looked like I belonged there... same color etc. So, I was shocked when a woman walked by and pinched me! As she pinched me she spat "You dirty American!"

I of course interpreted that very differently than how I understand her action now. What she saw was someone like her who had escaped the poverty and life it brings and the only difference she could judge against me is that I had become an American.

I have learned and I teach my children and others that how a person treats another whether in word or action is a reflection of self. People that feel good about themselves communicate that with how they handle themselves as they interact with others and the world. Respect for oneself and others as well as integrity are two things that cannot be bought only earned. Both are essential for feeling good about yourself and your life. One cannot get that by hate or anger or negativity. Those emotions are like termites on your self esteem. All the anger and hate felt by individuals for Angeline or Brad is not hurting them one bit . For anger and hate for a person is like taking poison and expecting the only person to die. For hate and anger poison one's soul and the soul is where happiness is nourished....

The school of life does offer scholarships. Unfortunately the best lessons come with pain. But if we don't learn from that pain, we are doomed to repeat it until we do it right. If your life is miserable what can you change? The only constant is you so if you want something different for yourself you have to learn to accept accountability for how your life is playing. And learn to make different choices until you get where you want to be.

Thank you Rica for being calm and diplomatic where I couldn't be. I'm just fed up with people deciding that because Zahara is black, she's required to represent that up and above the obvious. Nobody is making those same requirements for Maddox, and apart from Angelina herself stating that she does now, and will continue to teach him about the culture he was born into, she's made no suggesting that he's being raised to be seen as Cambodian first, and her son second. This assumption that Z's hair will require special attention is a steretype, and for it to come from another person of color bothers me. Bottomline, both kids should first be seen as Angelina's children. Her son & her daughter. We know that she's respectful of each one's heritage, the culture they were birthed into, and the importance of teaching them about it, filling them with pride that it is a part of them, but it is not all of them.

That's not really true. AJ, her mom and brother lived a rather "money-tight" existence when her parents split. I just read recently about how they didn't have much money (which I thought weird because of who her dad was) and how the kids teased her about her clothing because they shopped a lot at Goodwill and thrift type stores out of necessity. It seems Jon Voight had a long stretch there where he didn't work, and I assume the mother didn't at all, or at least acting and getting paid.

Every now and then, woven into the inane comments such as "Jennifer is fugly" and "Angelina is a whore" is a thread that makes plowing through those comments worth while.

I found the debate on how to keep Zahara in contact with her black culture and heritage interesting. Clearly, Tandem, I am not a Chinnifer Fan, Rica and others have given a lot of thought to this question in relation to themselves.

I'd just like to put in my 2 cents worth. I don't think the debate is a black issue but an issue of maintaining ones ethnicity and minority culture within a majority and dominant culture.

I'm ethnically Chinese but my great grandparents migrated from China so I'm 4th generation remove. As a descendant of immigrants, I've lived as part of a minority group for most of my life. For a large part of my life, I've had to balance the need to assimilate into the dominant, majority culture without losing my ethnicity and without losing my individuality. That I think is the real issue, not whether one is black, white or yellow or brown. And as the world becomes ever more global, working out the balance becomes ever more important for us. There is no one right way or one wrong way but its great to see how other people are handling it so we can learn something new.

I think what we seem to be forgetting here is that Africa is not a Country it is a Continet. Each Country is different in the way they speak,look or even in the way the do things. The Europeans are all white,but culturally very different,and at the end of the day culture binds people faster than skin colour. Zahara's hair texture,will not nessesarily be kinky as Ethiopians tend to have Caucasion features and wavy hair. I have met in my lifetime Black people that were far removed from so call "Black Culture". As much as Zahara's ethnicity will be Ethiopian,culturally she will be American,and to fully understand that concept,you had to have been raised outside the US,and even in this Culture there is a slow shift from people connecting racially to people connecting because of economics.

I read from the British "Hello" mag. (Jan.2006). they stated that the pregnancy was accidental and Brad and Angie were elated . but they might adopt another 2 kids.

Coming late to this board, I'm overwhelmed by you guys' comments.

Sister girl, lylian, I've found a compatriot! (To Lisa if she's still here, this blog isn't cliquish. I'm fairly new here but yet I've been welcomed with open arms because I try to interact with the names I recognize. Believe me, there isn't any exclusivity as long as one is respectful and not hateful.) To add to the cultural identity debate, I think because Angie will be raising Zahara in America, assimilation will be the primary force, as with any ethnic nationality has to assimilate to an extent to the melting pot of American culture. It doesn't mean one has to abandon one's native culture, but it would be difficult not to adopt American culture simply by osmosis with the range of food, music, entertainment, vernacular lingo/slangs, sense of humor, etc.

I'm actually an immigrant. Though I am very proud of my native culture and have self-learned the history (cause American education certainly isn't going to do it), culture and language. My parents weren't too concerned about maintaining culture as they probably thought it would be naturally retained. But what they failed to take into account that living in America surrounded 360 degrees by American pop culture and going to American public schools, one can easily lose the native cultural orientation. I'm still lost on what are the preferred protocols under certain social situations, which is why I have to rely on asking relatives who were more steeped in our native culture or immigrated much later in their lives (resulting in more exposure of the native culture).

In any event, I have no identity problems in my eating American (e.g., meatloaf, BBQ), Italian (spaghetti, pizza), French (crepes) or any other ethnic dining available in this country. Nor do I have any quibbles about my love of American music and dance. I enjoy American sports (basketball has become quite global and becoming popular even in China). Those tastes and preferences don't deny me my cultural identity, as I know who I am and where I've come from.

In the same token, I don't need to wear ethnic clothes to demonstrate my cultural pride. Hell, even in my native country, they don't wear the traditional clothes for everyday wear; maybe for weddings and other special occasions.

So, I wouldn't be so concerned about Zahara losing any of her cultural identity because of how she is dressed. I have no doubts that Angie will teach as much as she can about Ethiopia to Zahara. Plus, she will no doubt take Zahara on many trips back to Ethiopia to keep her roots intact.

On Angie "looking" aloof, appearances can be deceiving. To an extent I give off that same impression despite the fact I will talk to anybody and befriend any class of people. I'm friendly with the maintenance workers, service workers, etc. I don't give wealthy people any more attention because of their higher class.

Yet, I had a friend tell me that she thought I was unapproachable before I had befriended her. After she got to knew me, she admired me so much that she saw me as a role model (without my intention). Men, except married men, seem so intimidated by me they need to get mutual acquaintances to ask me for a date or tell me they have a crush on me. (No, I have never accepted any married men's comeons! It's not my thing, but neither do I judge women who do.) I'll smile at strangers and even say "Hi" when we pass each other, but in general I don't walk around with a smile on my face.

I'm certainly not Angelina gorgeous (in my humble opinion), but I can imagine how a beautiful woman like her can be easily perceived as stuck-up and arrogant when all accounts indicate otherwise. She is rated among the easiest to get an autograph. In candids, you will always see her looking directly into the stranger or fan's eyes while smiling. You will read many accounts of fans meeting her and remarking how atentive she is and what interest she shows to them.

The rest of the hate, I'm going to ignore. But I do want to give my respect for Elena for what she's overcome and the kind person she's become.

The former slaves, when freed, ended up in theshanty towns while the heirs of the great British plantations became the elite. Their language and attitudes toward dark skinned people is atrocious. Next time you are in Jamaica, listen to teh words used to describe dark verses light. Fascinating.

Also, how can you scientifically prove that Rastas prefer white women? Most Rastas marry other Rasta women, who are usually black. Are you saying they have a secret desire for white women? If this is scientifically true, then how does this invalidate their culture as a whole? Rastas believe in Ethioppia because it is their Mecca. They believe Haile Selassie is a direct descendent of the King of David and thus the link to God. It is less about Africa, in terms of race, as it is about the link to the offspring of David and the black queen Sheba. So in fact, this link they believe in leads to a Jewish figure David. 2:14AM, The African-Americans I deal with are all mostly Ivy League educated and wordly. Some are married to people of other races and some are not. We have worked hard to not define ourselves by these old definitions of "selling out". A lot of us were told we were "selling out" for speaking proper English, or doing well in school. You see, I am assuming you are saying some Blacks have legitimate reasons for dating outside the race and you suggest some don't. How should we determine this? Does the person have to tell you that their reason for dating interracially is valid or do we examine them? If so, how is the examination conducted, should it be clinical or otherwise?

And, oh, does this apply to Asian women (high number date white men)? Does it apply to Latinas? Or is it just Black women?

And ultimately if a Black woman dates a White man or marries one based on her self-hate as a Black woman - how does this dysfunctional reason for marrying differ from women who marry of the same race for money, out of loneliness, who marry for social status, who marry to spite their families, who marry because they are afraid? Are these circumstances less or more severe than the dysfunction of marrying because of teh man's race.

So, uh, Zahara's getting to be a big girl, huh? She must be nearly 14 months now. No wonder BP is carrying her in a sling instead of in his arms. She must be getting pretty heavy by now. I wonder if she's walking at home yet. A lot of babies/toddlers are able to stand and walk, but get carried or put in a stroller in public because they're still kind of unsteady on their feet.

Anyway, she sure is a cutie. So, Maddox must be nearly 5 by now, if Zahara's over a year. Do you think AJ & BP will enroll him in regular kindergarten or get a tutor so they can keep travelling?

For all the proclamation by I'm Not A Chinnifer Fan that she is a Brangelina fan, why does she think the worst of a setting? Why presume Brad would even give Zahara the dropped baby bottle when it's clear he put the bottle in his pocket? And even if he did, it's not as if babies don't put bunch of stuff into their mouths which have rested on the ground. A little bit of germs isn't necessarily bad. It strengthens the immune system with some exposure of good and mild germs. Check out the studies of children with asthma living in pristine, sterile environments to the lower incidents with those on farms.

Why presume anything would be wrong for Angelina to fly in a plane when medical research has shown there is nothing wrong with it? She's flying with highly seasoned flight instructors and in a smaller plane, she's not flying that high up in altitude. Why presume Zahara can't walk when all we see are a fraction of Zahara's life? She could be running around in the apartment for all we know.

It's those fake Brangelina fans that elect to not give the family the benefit of the doubt with their criticisms that expose these so-called fans as frauds. They remind me of unhappy people who are nothing but critical.

I would like to contribute one comment about Angie's capacity to embrace her children's cultures, she does it lovingly, and I have seen it. Back in July 2005 when we saw all these pictures of Angie's "newly adopted baby daughter Zahara", Angie dressed Z in her African garments, a beautiful pattern of colors that you can tell right away was from Africa. And as for Maddox, she is making sure Mad can speak Khmer, in fact, she is learning the language herself.

Culture is a beautiful thing. I admit being raised in America made me want to forget being a Filipina. But my parents "reminded" me where I came from, and despite the fact that it is a third world country, the Philippines has shown its potential of being a really nice country to travel to.

Diversity in cultures is what makes this world so beautiful. I think it's great that Angie knows the beauty of diversity, and I suspect that Brad has wanted to learn about other cultures and embrace it too, but never had a chance to do that with his ex-wife since she probably did not share in his interests.

Another little fact, Brad had been involved with the ONE organization way before he met Angie, so the two of them really did have SO much in common. I suspect, too, that Brad's ex-wife also didn't share in his humanitarian causes.

Brad and Angie just didn't find each other until one movie finally brought them together. Now a beautiful baby is on the way. And they lived happily ever after.

There r many many natural parents who try to get their children to grow up within their culture but do so unsuccessfully. But atleast these parents r teaching them something.

Praise Buddha. And I thought I was the only one who saw through the stinking pile of fraud sh*t underneath the over-manufactured and over-coiffed package known as Jennifer Aniston. Apparently not. My inbox was flooded yesterday with a small army of you rejoicing at the NY Daily News report on the 'real' Jen - the insecure, vain, self obsessed Jen who has so deftly played the PR game and re-invented herself as the girl next door. Well according to Nancy Balbirer…she's not.

Here's the summary. There was a book promo in New York the other night for a release called 'The Underminer: Or, the Best Friend Who Casually Destroys Your Life'. Several performers and writers shared personal accounts of their best friend horror stories and Nancy Balbirer's experience involved an actress named 'Jane' who is a virtual mirror image of a certain Friend I know and hate. Turns out that Jennifer and Nancy lived together for a short time in the 80s when both were carving out their careers. Remarkably enough, 'Jane' also shared an apartment with Nancy. 'Jane's' father is a soap actor and her parents are divorced. She went to the High School for the Performing Arts. Jane was also a 'famous sitcom actress' on a show about friends who 'live together in the Village.' Jane ended up moving to LA and transforming her body with lipo and a nose job, a nose she described as coming 'from her Greek half'. She then went on Nutrislim and got skinny and froze her nipples whenever she was trying to land a gig. Sound familiar???

Now all this would be forgivable if 'Jane' wasn't such an ungrateful bitch and even though Nancy let Jane stay with her when she was struggling back East, Jane was rude and inhospitable when Nancy asked for a return favour several years later. She also got Nancy fired from a job on her sitcom after finding out that the producers had offered her a recurring role.

As you would expect, Aniston's publicist promptly denied the claims and the entire story, insisting that Jen barely knows this woman and that everything, every part of the story is untrue, especially the plastic surgery and the manipulation and the part about getting Nancy fired. Uh huh.

Meanwhile, realising that she might have pissed off some powerful Hollywood brokers, Nancy tried to smooth things over by sending a letter of clarification to the NY Daily News and the columnist who reported the story. Instead of retracting her story, all she did was repeat over and over that she never said the name 'Jennifer Aniston' - as recounted in hilarious fashion by the wizards at Gawker - which made a great situation even better, compounding the fact that Jane really is Jen, and reminding us over and over that she was only telling a story about Jane, who happens to share many, many, many similarities with the Chin who shall not be named.

And Ph.D. gossips the world over are now laughing their arses off.

The moral of the story? The Friend is a Fraud, y'all. And to all you rabid Aniston fans who love bombarding me with hate mail and AIDs wishes - trust me, I sympathise with your situation. I know the pity poor me routine was just too hard to resist. I know how refreshing it was at one time to see a completely average, ho hum nobody marry a sex god because it meant that maybe you too could have had a chance at grasping the golden ring. I know how convincing she was as the 'every girl', as the celebrity you would want to have over for dinner, believing she wouldn’t care that you didn't have Moet chilling in the fridge and a Balenciaga throw to put over her shoulders if she felt a chill.

But you need to blow out that candle, ok??? Take it down from your windowsill and extinguish the flame. Because Jennifer Aniston will never be your friend. She will never WANT to be your friend. She will never even PRETEND to want to be your friend. As I've said all along, as I've been saying since that mediocre little twerp got her chance on television - JennyJen ain't much. She is, however, perfect for Tom Cruise. And if there is a Goddess, if the gossip stars ever align, I do hope they find each other one day. One hypocrite to another - it would be true love indeed.

Meg Ryan adopted a chinese baby, Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman and Michelle Peifer adopted black baby but nobody make a negative comment about it at all. That's why I always think that a lot of people practise double standard in commenting about Angelina Jolie - adopt from those countries just PR stunt, is she going to instill their original heritage, whoring her kids for PR purpose, etc.

I have seen a lot of photos of Julia Robert with her kids, Weatherspoon with her kids, Hugh Jackman with his, Tom Cruise with his, Madonna and hers, Demi Moore and hers and the list goes on but how come nobody accuse them of whoring their children for media purpose?

What has been lost on some people is that what comes out in our post are things that tend to be swept under the rug. Or the elephant in the room that no one wants to bring up.

I am multi-racial, Castillian, Indian and Negro. My children are multi- racial also. I consider myself an American though I put an X on Latina.

But what all of you have mentioned in your posts are also points of view within the Hispanic community.

A few years ago there was a Mexican-American Democratic Candidate here in Texas who referred to another Hispanic politician who had gone to laws school etc. but was a Republican as a " coconut" brown on the outside and white on the inside. I have been called that here too. By other Latinos. As have my children and other minority children who are in the Gifted Programs in their school. By who? Other minorities.

I could go on with this thread, but do I really think it is about race? No, I don't . It is about money and class. I disagree with New Orleans Mayor about his contention that they did not get the help they needed because of race. It wouldn't not have mattered if all those poor people were green. Everyone who was poor suffered . If it just been race, all the poor whites etc. would have made it out of there.

Money is power .Those that have it have power, regardless of color. Look at Oprah... Plain and simple. That is why so many sell their souls for money. Because in our society that is what counts.

I was dissapointed that Oprah took the attitude that she was snubbed at Hermes because she is Black. It was not because of her color. it was because she was an American. And unfortunately some rich American do fit the "Ugly American" stereotype. Like Expecting a store to let them in even though it is past closing hours. They would have done the same regardless what color Oprah skin had been.

I use some of Aesop's fables to help children understand certain life lessons. . Like the one about the 6 blind men who encountered an elephant. Of course because they were blind they were clueless about what they had encountered. They all started feeling the creature . One felt the trunk, one felt a tusk and so on. But from just knowing what one part was, they were still clueless as to what the creature was. Until they started to share with each other what they "saw" with their hands. It was only when they shared their "parts" that they were able to see the "whole" and get a complete picture of the elephant. And that my dear friends is the importance of openining up and listening to different perspectives. We are all a witness to a different view of life. Unfortunately, everyone wants to talk, but few really want to listen. And it is only in listening that we can learn.

My children are multi-racial. They are proud of being a gumbo... As I am. Perhaps one will marry and Asian and we will trully by citizens of the world.

I think this is cultural, as Americans tend to expect everything as negotiable and making exception is a common place, or rather a way of life. Whereas in Europe I think they normally live by their 'rules' at heart; they have to in order to live in a relatively limited geographical space and everyone to cohabitate. Europeans are puzzled when an American person claims or demands an exception, and thus Americas come across as 'arrogant'. It's just cultural misunderstanding... I would hope...

\I have heard all perpectives not only from friends, patients, and my travels overseas. They are all valid because they all belong to individual's life experiences. If you disagree. perhaps it should encourage you to do some research or perhaps seek out Black women from different cultures and socio-economic levels and start a dialogue. I volunteer in a state funded medical facility where 80% of the employees are African American and 20% are Hispanic. I can guarantee you that based on socio-economic level that each was raised in, their perception of life is completely different. I am a native Trinidadian, and for years I would tell my friends that their was no racism in Trinidad. I have been in the USA since I was 16. I went back to Trinidad, 4 years ago for the first time. My heart felt so sad, because I did see racism as clear as day. The haves just happened to be of syrian, east indian, and white american descent.

There were young black people, who have followed the rules of society and gotten University level education, and you know what was the best jobs they could hope for was a cashier at a grocery store. Unless you knew people in the better paying jobs, you were unemployed or a cashier of some sort.

We live sheltered lives, not traveling to much out of our comfort zone, and guess that is why I personally had not felt like their was a problem.

You are correct . But what unfortunately gives us the bad reputation are the "nouveau riche" who are used to waving those dollars signs and expecting the water to part. It is parents who think that they are wonderful parents because they give their children everything that money can buy and let them do anything they want and then their child self-destructs and they are clueless to the reasons.

I live in Dallas, trust me I see it all the time . But as we all know that money has nothing to do with class. I met a rep from Cartier, Paris here not too long ago and we discussed the Hermes incident.

The people did not recognize her and though she is worshipped here, people aren't that familiar with either her looks or her power/fame. So, when Gail yelled that they needed to open because it was Oprah. It was meaningless. She was a customer who was trying to come in just after the store closed. They would have done that to anyone of us. Most famous people call ahead and make private appointments. Until they realized Who she really was the next day, they just thought she was a rude, rich American .... What people don't seem to realize is that there are a lot of very wealthy African women who shop there , Cartier etc. and spend a lOT of money and are desired costumers in all those stores. Not everyone in Africa is poor.

I have done a lot of traveling through the years. People are always surprised that I am also an American. For them it is always a compliment. Me, it makes me as sad as it makes me cry when I salute the flag.

April, I know that One of my children is much lighter than the other , in fact she looks like an Anglo. I have been out with her and her younger sister who is beautiful but is a lighter share of Halle Berry and have people of all races compliment my lighter child and ignore my little dark one. Fortunately I have very wise children whose self-esteem is not based on appearances. and who also know they as flowers in a garden, they are all beautiful....Discrimination exist on every level because of human nature.

My ex-sister-in-law (she divorced my husband's brother) is a black woman from Madagascar, so her daughter who is half caucasian (French) is beautiful, olive-colored skined, and could pass as some Arab princess (!). Several years ago this Malagasy woman was on Paris subway with her baby, and a stranger approached her and said, "How much do you charge for babysitting?", assuming she was a nanny to her own baby (who is much lighter in skin than her mother). Albeit an honest mistake, it was extremely insulting to her, and I really felt for her. And France is a country so diverse and 'mature' as a society, if one could call that. Yes, it does exist everywhere, I'm said to say....

I wouldn't doubt it. I don't buy his/her story. When I did my undergrad research all of my subjects knew they were participating in research and they were also informed of the nature of the study. I can't believe professors would have students conducting research without getting consent. It was a big deal back then to get consent or you couldn't use the data.

i was away for a while too and didn't know jared's required email addresses now. good idea, esp when things get hot in this kitchen. (and i don't just mean catfights but look what ange and rica whipped up hahaha...)
