For anyone who is worried about the smoking---he quit for the movie Troy or so I've read. The only reason it matters to me is I want him to live a long time and I know A. doesn't like it. Wonder what happened to her "no sex if your smoke" imperative? Still. . .smokin' or not. . .he's hot.

France is a great country, but for someone who is trying to quit smoking, it's a NIGHTMARE. Everyone smokes. I lived there when I first married (my husband is French) but eventually came back to the US (importing my French husband)--believe or not one of the reason was SMOKE! I couldn't stand it.

What about those kids? Who cares about his health. He is now the dad to two children, with another on the way. Come on! Seriously, this man has no back bone, no personal strength, and no personality. Brad and Angelina make a great couple - hipocrites unite!

#13..not true. My husband is 100% French and we spend the entire summer in the south of France, 8 years and counting. Most of the people that smoke there are tourists!!! The village he is from.. nobody smokes. WILL POWER is a different thing. If you look at the STATS France has less% of people with cancer.. how can that be if they all smoke?

My only thoughts right now is that, apparently, Angie does allow him to be himself, even if she and I would much rather Brad does not smoke at all. :D An apparently, Brad is considerate enough to make sure to smoke by the window, therefore not allowing the smoke inside the apt.
The only thing that makes me wonder is why they stay in Paris all this time. He's beautiful houses in California. There are supposedly riots going on in Paris for some reason, and it makes me wonder if it's smart for them to stay there. My 2 cents. :)

I live in Paris. If there's anyone that wants to say no one smokes in Paris, they're never been in Paris. Cigarettes here are like joints in Amsterdam. I see Brad Pitt everywhere. When I was in Malibu, he went to the grocery store everyday, same time, walking the same path with Angelina. And with the press storm, you can always tell where he is in Paris. From an eyewitness standpoint, they seem to be really genuinely nice people. They're always smiling and laughing. And not the ostentatious sort. Okay, this could possibly be true for your average American citizen, but Brangelina aren't your average American citizens. Fame and celebrity will get you things in this world that the rest of us couldn't even begin to buy. I'm sure if they showed up at the embassy in Germany or where ever wanting to tie the knot, an exception would be made.

While US embassy officials can't marry 2 US citizens on foreign soil, wouldn't it be possible for 2 US citizens to get married at a US embassy by a foreign official?

A friend also pointed out to me that they could be staying in France long enough to establish the necessary lenghth of residency to be married there - which is apparently 40 days. Surely they've been there that long now?

Personally I don't think they're married yet. Angie seems rather reluctant to open herself up to the possiblity of becoming a 3-time divorcee. I can't say that I blame her either. Even if it is Brad Pitt.

What are the implications if the baby is born and still they are not married? What would be the legal rights of Angie and Brad to the baby? Just curious.

I've never smoked and my smoker friends are somewhat inarticulate about why they smoke. Perhaps someone here can help me understand the nature of this addiction. It seems like an incredibly difficult habit to break.

I have a friend who actually had testicular cancer. Stopped smoking, got treated, got well, started smoking again, got cancer again, stopped smoking again, got treated again, got well again and you guessed it - started smoking again. My friend doesn't work in a smoking environment. His wife is NOT a smoker. He does not live in a smoking culture. He can't tell me why he keeps smoking even though he knows it might kill him sooner rather then later.

Many people try to stop this smoking addiction and appear to be successful for a period of time, a few months, then bam, they start to smoke again. Some manage to contain it to 1 or 2 cigarrettes on social occassions. Others just get right back in. Then they'll try stopping again and succeed for a few months. You'd think during these few months, the physical addiction is gone but still the psychological addiction remains.

It's sad. I hope anyone who is trying to quit smoking ultimately succeeds. Medically speaking, there's not one good thing you get out of smoking even 1 fag (as compared to drinking say a glass of red wine once a day).

We are a non-smoking family and we have explained to our 4.5 year old daughter that smoking is very bad for you. But then we have friends who visit and smoke on the balcony. We don't wish to be rude and tell them they can't smoke in front of my child. That would also be silly. I've used it as an opportunity to explain to my daughter how difficult any sort of addictions are to break. I hope that one day, she will understand that addictions can be dangerous. No one starts smoking or drinking or gambling in order to become an addict. You just slide into that hole and then find its very very difficult to get out.

Agree with #91 lylian, I was a medical staff in a Cancer center . We always have this patients who will stop smoking while on treatment. but immediately return to smoking after treatment was completed. we tried everything including nicotine patch to convince them to curb this bad habit. but I agree with you Lylian not that easy for those addicted. for Brad who is a chain smoker for several years, it need times to slowly get rid of it.

As an ex-smoker I can tell you no one just smokes one or two puffs. Once you start smoking again you are right back to your orginal amount in no time flat, in less than a week. Brad probably never quit. Here is where your, (,most of you), hypocrisy lies, you RIP Jen apart for smoking but, oh it's ok if Bratty smokes, it's still a good thing. NOT. Dear #99, no one here should have to be ashamed of anything, especially not of smoking. It sounds like you have made a choice of not smoking- good for you, live you life. And i hope you won't start smoking again, and if you do, you will not be ashamed of it, but rather accept yourself and stop again in due time. Being a smoker and being around smokers all my life (and my family and husbands family all big time smokers) I happen to KNOW smokers. Not one of them were ever "social" smokers. Smoking is not like drinking. Smoking IS an addiction! It has been likened to quitting heroin it's that tough. If anyone tells you that they are just "socially" puffy here or there, they are lying to you! When you're not around they are smoking up a storm. Albeit, I have known one person who swears they smoke only once a day, but that is a rare individual and it happens only rarely. Go to any quit smoking site on the web and do a poll and you will find maybe one out of a thousand who doesn't smoke full time.

I work for a Cancer hospital and to say that Brad does not respect his family because he continues to smoke is insane. That is the equivalant of saying a Cancer patient who still smokes does not respect him/herself. Its not about a lack of respect or lack of willpower, its about having a chemical addiction. Addiction is beyond voluntary control. Most people do not wake up one day, decide not to smoke, and never relapse. If this was your experience than you are one of the rare and lucky ones. It may take months or even longer, or maybe never for Brad or Jen or Joe Schmo on the street to quit. I hope both Brad and Jen quit but I understand that the odds are against them. Not making excuses for anyone I'm just know kicking an addiction is not as easy as you try to make it sound.

It is not right for BP to smoke, but there is a big difference between a smoking preg woman and a father-to-be occasionally smoking towards the window. The former directly harms the baby, but the latter doesn't.

Is BP a heavy smoker or occasional one? We don't know. But PAPS followed him for quite a while, all they have are the above pictures. Smoke twice, once for each color of hair. smokin is not as serious as addiction to heroin. not all smokers are like your family and friends. it's difficult to stop it, but some make it, who knows Brad could be one of them.

Interesting thought on who would get custody. If in Cambodia she is a citizen there so if born there the baby would be as well. Custody may very well have to be fought there. With them not being married it really depends on who is in physical custody. He would have to go to court if she refused to let him see the baby. In the US more and more judges are opting to giving custody to the parent that does not smoke. A lot of controversy on this subject as some of the non-smoking parents are not a good choice at all, still in all, many judges are doing it.
I do not think it would come to any of this, and do not believe they are broke up for a minute, but someone brought it up and I started thinking of the possiblilities. Angie does have the upper hand in this one, I believe.

Aah, excuse me there, Any#109. I happen to be a social smoker. Started when I was 19. ONLY smoke when I went out in my 20's. Quit when I had my son. Pick it up again, ONLY when I went out with friends. Finally gave it up in my late 30's and now I'm in my 40's, and only will take a huff and a puff if and when my fiance' have a cigar. I have a brother who is the same way as I am. So yes, it is quite possible to control this beast. So take a chill pill. I still think AJ makes sure to remind Brad it's not good for him and to the kids.

I know what you say is true. I was a 1-1 1/2 pack a day smoker for over 20yrs, and quitting took me many tries, and I know I can never even smoke one because I'd be addicted again in a flash. I had a roomie in college who could smoke 1 cigarette, or 10, and then not touch them for months without a thought or a craving. At that time i envied her. Doctore told me once that their are mental smokers, stress smokers, physical smokers who are addicted to the nicotine(me), and social smokers (you). I sometimes miss it, but now I can't even stand the smell, and that's something I never thought would happen.

My friend Sharon only smokes when she drinks beer. Not wine, mixed drinks or anything else. She has a beer and she hs to light up. She never, ever smokes at any other time. It's all subjective and not even an issue. If he was smoking in Angie's face or the kids face's then he'd need a smack down

Oh, man, I have to eat my words after dismissing that rumor about Brad was supposed witnessed smoking in a Parisian cafe. Well, there is evidence here instead of mere rumor before. I would still need at least that much to believe any of those rumors.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, as I believe it's for everbody's best health to quit - even Jennifer Aniston. Though it seems Brad is considerate enough about second-hand smoking by smoking before an open window, for his longevity as a parent to his kids, it would still be good for his family that he quit.

Understandably, I know from smokers I know and literature that smoking is very difficult to quit. I have a brother who's had a heart attack and tried to quit but was unsuccessful. So he's back to smoking. I had an uncle who had suffered 2 heart attacks and couldn't quit. He eventually succumbed fatally to all the years of smoking.

As much as I would like smokers to quit, I'm not a nag about it and I don't pass judgement. So, I don't make a fuss when smokers smoke. I had a friend who smoked and I never told her not to smoke in my presence. (I can't recall if she even stopped smoking when she was pregnant.) With my brother, I ask that he never smoke in the same room with either my mother, cat or me. (I think smoking and second-hand smoking is especially worse for women with their smaller lung capacity.) Other than that, for me to nag would be just harping on everything they already knew.

I have another uncle who has quit smoking but he occasionally relapses. Hopefully, that's what Brad is undergoing. If he smokes even less than what he did before, that's still an improvement. Cold turkey wasn't effective but perhaps a slow weaning off cigarettes may be the ticket. I sure hope so, cause if he can't quit smoking, while he has the most incentive and when he and Angie are still so new in their relationship as to not be resigned with each other's bad habits, he may not have the motivation later to get out of his rut.

Some people have more of a weakness for addictions than others. One brother has been exposed to nearly everything (read what you will from that), but he's not a smoker or a regular drinker (purely social drinker). He's more addicted to Pepsi, which will rot his teeth out. It's best never to pick up the habit.

But all may not be lost. A person's risk for lung cancer is also dependent on his/her genes. As I saw a doctor note somewhere, Winston Churchill was obese and a smoker but he lived well into his 90s. And I read something further back about a gene mutation in Chinese that helps resist the damaging effects of tobacco (though, of course, not entirely protective). The details of the latter are vague and less certain, but it stuck in my mind as interesting.

That's exactly the same thing reported by a Parisian fan on Soulie Jolie. Like Amalia, I had checked the policy of American embassies with marriage and thought the story couldn't be true. But who knows with resourceful lawyers?

Now the speculation of their already being married was sparked by their matching rings. But Brad was already wearing that ring as far back (as I could track from candid pictures) as when he attended the Davos economic forum. The first time Angie was spotted wearing the same matching ring was when she was at the playground.

It does seem Angie isn't tied down by conventional social rules to bother with marriage. Her reluctance is consistent with other couples who shy from marriage because of a history of failed marriage ala Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon. In this day and age, it really isn't that important to marry.

Estelle, I'm not sure Brad promised to marry in the adoption papers. But lawyers have gone on record that it isn't necessary for Brad to marry to be able to adopt Angie's children. His status just makes it a bit more bureaucratic and expensive. I would think for future adoptions, marriage may facilitate their plans.

I'm not a lawyer, but relationships established by blood are inviolable, meaning Brad's rights as a parent to his unborn child are the same as if he were married to Angie. Inheritance rules are the same. The difference is between Angie and Brad. Some states recognize common law marriages where a couple has been living together as a household for many years are considered as husband and wife. But California isn't one of those states.

The regulars know me as a BAMZ's fan. In moments of exasperation with my friend who had testicular cancer, I've told him to his face, he is a bloody idiot. I think AJ does not have to be ashamed that Brad is smoking but I think Brad needs to be ashamed about this addiction - as should any other smoker. It is nothing to be proud of. No excuses.

I understand it is difficult to quit smoking. I still don't really understand why. Nevertheless, quitting is possible. The evidence that smoking is bad for your is now unambigous. And as I've stated in my earlier post, medically, there is absolutely not one single good thing that comes out of smoking one single fag.

Yes, there will be people who say, "my grandfather smoked for 60 years and died at the ripe old age of 80 with a fag between his lips". Actually, these people are few and far between. Most smokers succumb to a whole variety of illnesses, cancer being the most well known. However, it also adds to all sorts of chronic conditions including diabetes and high blood pressure leading to strokes, heart attacks, Ok OK, I won't go on. I just hope that Brad gets back on the wagon.

That would be me saying that. But don't get me wrong. I still would prefer people NOT smoke, even if smoking were healthy. I can't stand the smell or the smoke. It's bad for the skin. It stains the teeth and interiors of houses of smokers.

Having said that, I have to clarify about my brother. His mild heart attack was a convergence of bad habits, with primarily his indulgence with fast foods and junk foods as the primary cause. For a Chinese guy, he's overweight (shows you how American diets can wreak havoc on any ethnicity's predisposition to be "thin"). His lungs were surprisingly clean in his X-rays.

Regardless, nobody knows what genes he/she was born with to have that protective gene mutation. So smoking is nevertheless risky behavior. It's something I would prefer Brad AND Jennifer to quit.

It took me a long time to quit because it is an addiction. My mother had a friend who was a very well known jazz musician who also was known for his heroin use. Anyway he finally kicked that habit, but still smoked. My mom asked him what was the hold up, and he told her that quitting cigarettes was harder to kick than the heroin!

It took me try after try after try, and people hassling you who have no idea that in fact "you are addicted to the nicotine" didn't help. Thank God for two things.

1. The realization that there IS no such thing as willpower. With anything it's about deciding that you don't want to participate any longer, and committing to that even knowing temptation will be there. The moment I figured that one out, it was ezzy breezy.

2. Nicotine patches. I was a physically addicted smoker, and the patches went a long way in keeping the cravings at bay, the shakes away, and allowing me not to end up replacing one habit with another such as over eating...in fact I lost weight!

I hope Brad Pitt quits for his own health as well as for his family, but I also know that sometimes it takes some longer than others to get there, and I'm not going to judge him (or anyone). I saw up clse and personal a relative die from smoke related lung cancer at 52yrs old. He looked so old and unreconizable in the intensive care unit that I almost walked right past him. It had ravaged him to the point that he looked like a 80yr man. It was my wake up call, and maybe Brad's will come in another way.

So, the 2 men took the road side by side till the Bouget Aeroport where Mister Pit had a flying lesson. During the trip the 2 bikers talked about mechanic and compared their engines.! For the return, Brad asked for the same photographer to guide him back. Felling in confidence, the pretty dark-haired got loose on the highway and zigzagged along cars flat out. At the end of this fantastic ride, they became almost buddies and Brad even ask his new bud a CD-Rom of the pictures taken on this memorable day. It has never happen with other stars.

So it a almost a year and the half later and people still think this two don't fit well, they are too different, i believe what people think is that they are not the perfect couple. Angie has issues and one day Brad will come to his senses and go back to you know who. Well, he was with you know who (the perfect one) for seven years and he still left, so maybe just maybe she wasn't the perfect one for him and Angie with all her "issues" is the one. True Love isn't about finding the perfect person but about learning to see the imperfect person perfectly. He is see perfection in Angie.

He is not Gay, She is not his uterus (don't know how people come up with this stuff).

What we see in the pix is just a very tiny fraction of their day...lives. If we are to judge everyone by a snap shot of a moment, then I would be called a miserable person. At one point my parents thought they had brought home omen the devil child) and of course these are posed pictures. My mother quit smoking after over 30 years cold turkey one day and it has been 16 years since then. So anybody can quit if they really want to. Also she quit smoking when she was pregnant with me as soon as she found out and didn't start back until after I was born. Brad reminds me of a bird trapped in his gilded cage. If I was him, I would quit showbiz, he is too old to look good in films anymore and he can't act worth shit so there are no parts for him now. To those of you who are always saying you don't buy the Hollywood conspiracy theories: I do envy your naivete. Sadly for you, this is another one of those reports. So if you still want to believe that Jennifer Aniston is actually a much cooler, much more down to earth Rachel Green who would be your best friend in a heartbeat - skip this paragraph. It's not for you. A few weeks ago, the trailer for Rumour Has It - Jennifer's much delayed comedy starring Shirley MacLaine and Kevin Costner - was released on the internet to lukewarm reaction. (For those of you who care, I'm told Carson Daly is still in the lead.) And then, another bomb dropped. While early screenings of Derailed have returned some pretty positive reviews, it has been widely acknowledged by most audience members that Aniston is the weak link, barely believable in her role as a wife and mother who's about to stray. Cue another defensive huddle that ended with the current Vanity Fair game plan. Leak the interview bits and use the Angelina/Brad momentum to portray Jen as the sad, jilted little wife whose husband was stolen away by Angelina's wicked lips and poisonous vagina. But at the end of the day, do we really need to be reminded of how weak and pathetic she is? Now WHAT REALLY HAPPENED!

Mrs. Pitt is currently filming an as of yet untitled film based on the classic movie The Graduate, written by Oceans 11 screenscribe, Ted Griffin. Ted was also tapped to direct the project...but after only a week of shooting...he's been fired. A move engineered by none other than Miss Congeniality Jennifer Aniston herself. Apparently, Jen didn't appreciate the fact that her director was more concerned with camera angles and cinematography than ensuring she had the best lighting. You know how important that can be right? After all...our girl is a sunworshipper and also just turned 36. Bad lighting can bring out the most obscure laughline, the tiniest of crows feet...and for vanity-obsessed Jennifer, that is just unacceptable. Oh, and apparently she also had issues with the 'comedic tone' behind Griffin's work... as if acting like a ditz on a sitcom for 10 years suddenly makes her Jerry Seinfeld. So to sum up, Aniston gets a new director - Rob Reiner - and Ted Griffin's out of the chair...for his own film! oF COURSE WHO SMOOTHED IT ALL OUT FOR HER WHEN SHE SCREWED THINGS UP---YEP BRAD!

You criticize Jen for smoking (which isn't good for her), but when others criticize Brad for smoking (which also isn't good for him), now you suddenly defend his poor habit. And now it sounds like it's ok for him to smoke.

ok, so the difference may be that Jen is the one who would be pregnant & Brad won't. But secondhand smoke is much WORSE than firsthand smoke. So he shouldn't be smoking anyway (both because it's not good for the kids, & it's not good for the environment).

March 20. Actor Brad Pitt went to a Parisian restaurant in the famed avenue Montaigne, close to the Champs Elysée. There he met two American guys, he had dinner for about 3 hours. He came out by himself. There is also a mention that his eye looks bruised and puffy

I don't know why his one eye would look bruised & puffy, but it were just fatigue/lack of sleep, it would be BOTH eyes that look that way. But it seems to be unilateral, which then indicates that he may either be having some type of infection on that one side, or have had some trauma on that side. ok, potentially, we can say also that he was playing with Maddox, & M tried throwing him something which then hit his eye. Or, .... who knows & who cares?? But he doesn't look happy in these pictures (actually he looks disturbed), & he hasn't looked happy in many pictures either.

How is it lame when we defend Brad when we do it cause we like him? You defend Jen-jen because you like her. That's the name of the game.

I smoked for more than 30 years. Every year, I'd promise my son that I would quit because he plain hated the smell. I couldn't quit but I was able to cut down and not smoke inside the house.

So there I was, rain or shine, even on stormy midnights puffing away in the balcony. Then I got pneumonia one day and every time I took a puff, it was like my chest would explode. That's the day that I quit, not because I decided not to but because every time I smell smoke, my chest would hurt like it's being pounded on by a hammer.

Nevertheless, I still have dreams where I am smoking and having a good old time. I see people smoke in real life and I feel like bumming a cigarette. That's what smoking does. It hooks you.

Harry's Bar is quite possibly the best bar in Paris, depending on your 'party' preferences. I think it's in the 2nd, so the location is generally well-suited. Home of the original bloody mary - not good compared to mine but no importance. I thought I was walking into an Edith Piaf cocktail horror, but the decoration is brilliant and the buzz is absolutely amazing.

If you want to see Brad and Angelina in Paris, walk by their apartment building, it's rather high but the windows are large and you can tell if they're coming or going by the large vans/trucks parked in front.

You all are overthinking this smoking and breakup thing. The woman is pregnant, I don't she's up for walking. And the man is absolutely charming with his children.

But! I will say. Brad up close isn't a pretty picture. His face isn't as smoothed as you'd think, nor his hair kept. Angelina glows.

I haven't seen or heard much of them lately, but I'll let you all know if I hear of wedding rumors.

"Puffy eyes" could be that baby Z had a rough night. If you are a parent you would know. My daughter would wake up every few hours until she was 1 1/2 and I breast-fed in between. I was ready to kill myself I was so tired! My husband took some shifts too, and we both looked puffy eyed. But we love our baby and we were so happy, puffy eyes or not.

If Brad Pitt is unhappy with his life, he is more than capable of changing it for the better. He did that by leaving that fruitless marriage, knowing he would be risking all the bashing he took from crazed Jen fans.

However, Danny Moder(Julia's husband now) did not have any children, thankfully, and she was not pregnant.

Hi African Girl, apparently my haters also missed me, too, since they were still talking about me while I was away. I never leave their consciousness. lol. I missed you, too. I feel that kinship with you even though my French is the shits (want to be my translater when I travel through France?). Yeah, the fact we were placid-looking (you don't want to say you had that perma scowl ala Aniston) kids might be it. But my parents never thought I was the devil. A handful, maybe, but devil, no.

Unfortunately, it's a bit cumbersome to get caught up here as I frequently need to take a breather from the recent nonsense invading this site. So I deal with the day's most recent thread at a time. It may take a little more time for me respond to older threads.

And by the way, that belief was supported by her best friend Courtney Cox. So Jen did NOT file for divorce because of Brad's cheating ways. I think she filed for divorce because emotionally, Brad had checked out of the marriage.

Trying to keep a long term relationship together is the hardest work anyone would ever do and I'm sure that is true for all married couples (the only possible exception being those who married their true soul mates but even then, I don't know). All marriages have their ups and downs. But human beings being what they are, people work hard on a relationship because there is at least one compelling reason to do so. Compelling reasons for most people include (1) children (2) financial need to stay together (3) family and societal disapproval (4) emotional dependanc, (5) love.

Clearly neither Brad nor Jennifer had reasons (1) children, (2) financial need of each other (3) family and societal expectations (close to 50% of marriages in the US end up in divorce and in Hollywood, even higher). That leaves (4) emotional dependancy and (5) love. I can't say whether Jennifer or Brad were emotionally dependant on each other. Healthy relationships have some degree of emotional dependancy but unhealthy ones may have too much emotional dependancy. I also can't say if they loved each other. Judging by how quickly both parties have moved on, (evidenced by Brad photographed with AJ and Maddox in Kenya in April and Jennifer straddling VV's lap on the hotel balcony in August), I'd say not much but I don't know for sure.

In all the years that Brad was a single guy dating numerous women, and in the first 5 years of his marriage, there has never been a hint of him being a two timer. This despite the fact that women must have thrown themselves at him. Contrary to what Jen friends said in the VF interview, I don't think he checked out of his marriage after he met Angelina. I think he checked out of his marriage before he met Angelina which is why he was emotionally available to Angelina. Why did he check out of the marriage? Only Jen and Brad can answer that one too. I won't try to allocate blame on this one.

Sorry I missed your post yesterday and didn't answer your question. Soulie Jolie is the unofficial fan site with the most registered members. It has fans around the world (as reflected here), so you get some posts of the local news and reports from Europe. One member by the name of Elle Paris has been giving French reports of BAMZ stay. She's also the one who posted that she was told in Harry's Bar by a guard from the embassy of that alleged marriage. She works for the American Red Cross. Perhaps she's your sister's friend?

Brad Pitt is bringing his love of architecture to public access television. Pitt will narrate "Design: e-2," a series about environmentally friendly architecture, which is slated to air in June on PBS.
The six part series will focus on worldwide efforts to build environmentally friendly structures through sustainable architecture and design.
