The Brangelina baby—as the megawatt couple’s spawn is known, at least until its parents give it a proper name—has People, Us Weekly, In Touch, Star, and Life&Style (working, of course, on behalf of the millions and millions of readers they serve) awaiting the newborn’s arrival, all of them hoping and scheming and planning to voyage to the ends of the Earth, if that’s what it takes, to get a first—preferably the first—glimpse of the blessed child.
Why are people, and People, so desperate to see the Brangelina baby? The men and women who helm the celebrity weeklies have an easy answer. Their readers, they explain, view celebrities as their friends; and as they would be with any friends, they’re interested in their so-called life events. The big three of life events, the theory goes, are weddings, breakups, and babies—hence the celebrity weeklies’ laserlike focus on celebrity weddings, celebrity divorces, and celebrity babies.
But even for a life event, celebrity-weekly editors go on to explain, the Brangelina baby is particularly enticing. For one, there’s the simple matter of aesthetics. “The parents happen to be two of the most gorgeous people on the planet. How gorgeous is that baby going to be?” wonders Bonnie Fuller, the editorial director of American Media, whose stable of magazines includes Star. Dan Wakeford, an executive editor of In Touch, offers a tentative answer: “This could possibly be the most beautiful baby in the history of the world.” Even more than looks, there’s the backstory. “There’d be a lot of interest if it was Jennifer Aniston’s baby,” explains an editor at one celebrity weekly, “but with Brangelina, there’s that extra factor that the Hollywood golden couple was broken up so that this relationship, and this baby, could happen . . . I mean, this is the baby Jen wouldn’t give Brad, and the fact that it’s Angelina giving it to him—my feeble little mind can barely handle it!”
In that sense, the birth marks the end of a modern fairy tale, the sentimental made-for-TV-movie moment of the happy new family in their cocoon of bliss (and for added narrative pleasure, there’s poor Aniston off smoking and getting naked in a bad-looking movie with chubby Vince Vaughn). Whoever contrives to get the shot of the gorgeous Pitt-Jolie offspring will not only enjoy a lucrative windfall. They’ll give us the closure we all crave, while throwing open the door to the next serial fairy tale (the inevitable marital bumps, etc.) that will delight and/or disgust millions of us around the world—and sell a ton of magazines. But first, the photo, or what Debra Birnbaum, the deputy editor of Life&Style, calls “the Holy Grail of celebrity journalism.”
The Brangelina-baby photo hunt is unusual insofar as the hunters seem more beleaguered than the prey. Ask any Sears studio photographer what it’s like to shoot a squirming 1-month-old posed on a bearskin rug, and he’ll tell you that it’s not easy. Now, imagine trying to get a candid, on-the-move shot of a baby whose parents are doing everything in their considerable power to prevent you from taking their child’s picture, and you have an idea of the difficulties facing a paparazzo on a typical celebrity-baby assignment. “Weddings are so much easier,” says one with a sigh. “At least with those you’re dealing with full-sized people.”
To gauge just how challenging a celebrity-baby photo hunt can be, consider the last big one—which was for Sean Preston Federline. Steve Ginsburg, who abandoned his bartending gig to become a Los Angeles paparazzo and who has made a handsome living ever since, had high hopes for landing the first picture of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s baby. He tracked the singer in the final months of her pregnancy, studying her moves, learning her habits, trying to glean as much information about her as he could—so that, when her due date arrived, he would be in position to land an exclusive. Of course, Ginsburg wasn’t the only one doing such legwork, and when he showed up one day in mid-September outside the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center—where Spears had checked in under an assumed name—he discovered the place already swarming with paparazzi. “It was a spectacle,” Ginsburg says.
Once upon a time, a photographer on the baby hunt might have tried to sneak into the hospital, like the Italian paparazzo Adriano Bartoloni did after Pope John Paul II was shot in 1981. Bartoloni persuaded a family friend who worked in the intensive-care unit to put his name on a visitors list; he made it all the way to the door of the pope’s private room before a security guard caught him. But with privacy laws and celebrities’ private security forces being what they are today, such feats of derring-do are a thing of the past. And so the paparazzi camped outside the hospital, where they were constantly watched by Spears’s security guards, some of whom took their own pictures of the photographers. Their hope was to spot Spears leaving the building to go home with her new baby. But they never did. That’s because, according to one paparazzo who was at the hospital, Spears had her team wheel an empty carriage out to a waiting car; as the paparazzi fixated on that, Spears and baby absconded in the back of an ambulance to her home in Malibu. (In this instance, photographers at least have the small comfort of knowing how they were fooled, unlike in 1997 when Michael Jackson vanished from Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles with his newborn. “The hospital was completely surrounded by photographers . . . If they’d all held hands, they could have formed a human chain around the place,” recalls Kevin Smith, the owner of the Splash photo agency. “And he still managed to get out with the baby and no one saw him. To this day we have no idea how he did it.”)
In Malibu, the baby hunt continued as paparazzi staked out Spears’s house. But it was largely to no avail. “She basically disappeared,” says Ginsburg. “Nobody had a for-sure sighting of her for months.” Making matters worse, there were no nearby homes for the paparazzi to commandeer that afforded a good view of Spears’s property, such as the one German photographers rented for $5,000 a day in 1996 to snap the first pictures of an unaware Madonna and her new baby, Lourdes, reportedly pocketing $150,000. And while the photo agency X17 did lease a helicopter and squeeze off a few shots of Spears in her backyard holding a small, blanketed bundle, the pictures were grainy and blurry and apparently did not fetch a very high price from the handful of celebrity weeklies that ran them. (A staffer at a magazine that passed on the pictures doubts the bundle even contained a human being: “It was a dog wrapped in a blanket, or maybe a doll.”) Baby pictures stolen from a private photo shoot were briefly available online until they were removed after the threat of a lawsuit. Finally, in November, the photo hunt essentially came to an end when Spears released those pictures to People. The paparazzi skulked away from Spears’s home with nothing to show for their weeks of effort. Says one bitter paparazzo: “The whole thing was a giant cluster-fuck, a total waste of time.”
And yet, like moths to a flame, the paparazzi are getting ready for the Brangelina baby. According to those whose business it is to know such things, Jolie will likely give birth at Paris’s American Hospital during the first week of May, although she’s also believed to have booked rooms at Cedars-Sinai and Malibu’s St. John’s Hospital and may have done the same at hospitals in London, Berlin, and a Third World country—possibly Ethiopia, from where she adopted her daughter, Zahara. (Some of the same people who claim to have a good idea about where and when Jolie will give birth also seem to have a good idea about how: They say it will be a C-section. They also say it’s a boy.)
So, with Paris looking at the moment like the best bet, the paparazzi are brushing up on their French—and feeling a touch frénétique. “It’s like going to the moon,” complains one American paparazzo who has shot in Paris. “First of all, there’s the language difference. Second, there’s the traffic. Nowhere in the U.S. has traffic like Paris.” Then there’s the cultural chasm: “They’re Frenchmen and we’re all just stupid Americans. They all think George W. Bush is our father.” Even Paris’s topography conspires against the paparazzi. “In Los Angeles, everyone’s outdoors a lot because of the weather and everyone has backyards,” says Peter Howe, a former director of photography for Life and the author of the book Paparazzi. “In Paris, people are in their apartments, and the landscape isn’t as flat as it is in Los Angeles, and the light isn’t as good.”
Finally, there’s the Princess Di factor. Unlike in Los Angeles, where the paparazzi often pursue their quarry in high-speed car chases and shoot “guerrilla style”—getting right up in celebrities’ faces and blasting them with a flash—Diana’s 1997 death dampened paparazzi culture in Paris. “The paparazzi here discipline themselves,” says Marc Rylewski, a Paris paparazzo who worked in Los Angeles until U.S. immigration authorities threw him out. “They stay ten feet behind, they don’t shoot with flash. No one wants another Princess Di situation.” After Diana, the French also passed stringent anti-paparazzi laws. “If a Paris cop really wanted to press it,” says one paparazzo, “he could arrest us all.”
Why Jolie and Pitt would choose to have their baby in Paris (if that is indeed where they have it) is known only to them. Perhaps it’s because Jolie’s mother is French. Perhaps it’s because they simply like Paris, where the couple—and their two adopted children—has spent much time in recent months. But some wouldn’t put it past Jolie and Pitt to pick Paris simply to make the paparazzi’s lives more difficult. It wouldn’t be out of character. In 2000, when Pitt was marrying Aniston, he had a Los Angeles printer make up invitations with the wrong date and location, knowing someone at the printer would leak the information. Then, in order to thwart the photographers who discovered the wedding’s real location—which was at a friend’s Malibu mansion—and who were tempted to try to shoot the nuptials from helicopters, Pitt supposedly secured a temporary flight restriction over the property, which, as one paparazzo puts it, “is like an act of God . . . That house was like the fucking White House.”
Jolie is usually more accommodating of the shutterbugs, but she too has resorted to extreme measures. Earlier this year, for instance, when she was shooting The Good Shepherd in the Dominican Republic (just before publicly revealing that she was pregnant with Pitt’s child), the film set resembled an armed fortress. “The local security actually had the Dominican military working with them,” says one paparazzo who tried and failed to shoot Jolie (and her by then noticeably growing belly) in Santo Domingo. “If they told you something once and you didn’t do it, you were going to jail.” His local tour guide did, in fact, end up getting arrested.
All of which makes one paparazzo paint a particularly bleak scenario of how the hunt will play out in Paris. As he sees it, he will arrive there a few days before Jolie’s due date and join the stakeout at the couple’s apartment. Then one day he and the rest of the paparazzi pack will follow Jolie and Pitt—who, if habit serves, will travel in an easy-to-spot American-made minivan—to the American Hospital and set up an encampment across the street. “It’s going to be a circus,” the paparazzo predicts. He will do his best to establish his spot, one that gives him a view of as many hospital exits as possible, and then he will wait. While waiting, he may try to make contacts with people inside the hospital and ply them with money to give him even the smallest shards of information—such as which floor Jolie is staying on or which exit the new parents and baby might emerge from when they go home—but he admits the chances of his getting any are slim. “If anyone is going to get inside information,” he complains, “it’ll be the French photographers.”
And then, after a few days, Jolie will leave the hospital with her new baby. Chances are she and Pitt will create a diversion—an empty carriage, a decoy car, something. But even if they don’t, there’s no guarantee a paparazzo will get a good shot of the baby. “It’s going to be very hard, because if you think about it, a newborn is in that ‘carry’ thing, whatever the hell you call it, and you literally need to get up right next to it in order to get a clean shot of the face,” the paparazzo says. When Jolie returns to her apartment, she will be even harder to photograph, since her place is next door to a French-government building, and she typically gets in and out of her car in the government’s secure parking lot. Once Jolie goes inside with her new baby, the photographers will wait again. And wait. And wait some more. Maybe someone will try to bribe a delivery boy for inside information, but there’s no point in trying to bribe the other people who live in Jolie’s building, since, the paparazzo explains, “neighbors won’t give up a neighbor.”
Eventually, this photographer hopes, his fortunes will turn. “The first two weeks after the birth is a zoo,” he says. “But after two weeks, a lot of them start to get fed up—especially if they’re paying serious money for a hotel in Paris. Then there are only five or six guys left. And that’s when you make some money.” Which can be considerable. Although his expenses for the assignment could exceed $10,000 when he factors in flights, hotel, car rental, fuel, parking, meals, international cell-phone calls, and payments for tips, one picture of the Brangelina baby—even if it’s from a distance; even if it’s blurry; even, perhaps, if it’s a nonexclusive—could fetch him $50,000. And, as he calculates it, if he gets a few of those types of pictures each year, along with a steady diet of $1,000 shots, then he’ll make an annual salary in the mid–six figures. "People call you a scumbag pretty much every day,” he concedes, “but it’s nice being able to pay your bills.” And that’s why he plans to go to Paris and stay there for as long as it takes. “You’ve got to outlast the story,” he says. “You’ve just got to spend weeks outside her apartment waiting for her to come out.”
So the Brangelina-baby photo hunt will likely end precisely when and where the proud parents want it to. “If Brad and Angelina do not want anybody to see the baby, then they have the capacity to keep the baby out of the public eye,” says Bonnie Fuller. But at some point, the couple might want to show off their new addition, and there are several tried-and-true strategies Jolie and Pitt can use when it comes to determining who gets the first shot of their baby, and how it’s gotten.
One such strategy is what some paparazzi darkly refer to as “pulling a Sarah Jessica Parker.” After giving birth to her and Matthew Broderick’s first child, James Wilke, at Lenox Hill in 2002, Parker informed the paparazzi that she and her husband and newborn baby would be leaving the hospital through a certain exit at a certain time. At the appointed hour, the threesome marched out and stood on the hospital steps for three or four minutes, letting all those assembled get a good look. That made the paparazzi’s job easy—too easy. The market was flooded with “first photos” of little James Wilke, turning what some predicted would be a million-dollar picture into a discount special. “There were 200 photos of that baby,” says Frank Griffin, co-owner of the photo agency Bauer-Griffin, “and they all sold for $75 a picture.” Which, of course, is exactly what Parker hoped would happen, since, with her baby’s picture now largely worthless, the paparazzi would be more likely to leave her and her family alone.
Parker’s strategy, however, does squander money that could otherwise be put to good use. After Gwyneth Paltrow gave birth to her and Chris Martin’s daughter, Apple, in 2004, Paltrow tipped off an old friend, the photographer Steve Sands, about when and through which exit she’d be leaving her London hospital. Sands snapped a few supposedly “surprise” shots of Paltrow, Martin, and Apple, and sold the pictures for a reported $125,000 to People. “That was my most expensive photo,” says Sands, who wouldn’t confirm an exact figure. He says he’s hoping that Paltrow, who is pregnant again, will give him a similar opportunity with “Apple 2.0.”
Another technique is to steer the money to charity. Last year, for instance, Julia Roberts had her husband, Danny Moder, take pictures of their 3-month-old twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, and sell the photos to People for a figure that sources say was between $100,000 and $150,000. Roberts then donated the money to an environmental group. Courteney Cox and David Arquette released a picture of their baby daughter, Coco, to the photo agency Wire Image on the condition that all the proceeds go to a charity.
And then, of course, there are the celebrities who pocket the money. Saying who does this is hard, because none of them—or their publicists—will cop to it. But it’s an open secret in the celebrity-publishing game that sometimes a good portion of the money a magazine pays a charity or a photographer or a photo agency for an exclusive first-baby photo finds its way into the bank account of the baby’s parents. The rumors about this practice are particularly vicious when it comes to Spears and Federline.
Officially, the exclusive first photos of Sean Preston that People ran were secured with a donation—said to be in the neighborhood of $500,000—from the magazine to a charity Spears established to help Hurricane Katrina victims. “The money went to the Britney Foundation or whatever it’s called,” says People managing editor Larry Hackett. (Spears’s publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnik would not confirm whether her client required that any fee be paid, to charity or otherwise, for the photos.) But that hasn’t stopped many in the industry from openly speculating that the money went elsewhere. “The money didn’t go to charity,” says one industry source, “unless you consider Kevin Federline charity.” Adds an editor at a celebrity weekly: “Britney had it in her prenup that any money they make together he gets half of. This is Kevin’s primary source of income.”
No one thinks Brad and Angelina will sell the first picture of their child in order to fatten their own wallets. But the consensus is that the couple will use it to raise money for one of their favorite charities—probably Yéle Haiti, which was established by Jolie’s friend Wyclef Jean to fund development projects in his native country. This is what Jolie did when she revealed that she was pregnant during a visit to a Yéle Haiti project in January: She allowed one of the charity’s employees to take a picture, which Yéle Haiti then sold to People and its sister publication in Australia for $500,000.
Magazine wranglers have been approaching Pitt’s publicist Cindy Guagenti (Jolie does not have a publicist) to express interest in the first baby photo. “We’re getting offers,” says Guagenti. And while she won’t say any more on the subject, it’s a virtual certainty that those offers are quite substantial—because for a celebrity weekly, the value of landing the first exclusive photo of the Brangelina baby is almost incalculable. Certainly, baby photos will send newsstand sales skyrocketing. Last year, for instance, People’s third best-selling issue was the one with Julia Roberts and her twins on the cover; Us’s second best-selling issue in 2005 featured Jolie and her newly adopted daughter, Zahara, on the cover. “If you sell an extra 300,000 or 400,000 copies at $3.50, there’s a million dollars right there,” says an editor at one weekly. Beyond newsstand sales, there’s the ineffable quality of having the thing that everyone wants. “There’s really no price on that,” says the editor. “Just having it is good for the brand to show readers that your magazine is the one that gets these sorts of photos.” Which is why editors, photographers, and publicists all say that the Brangelina-baby photo could fetch at least $1 million.
Only a handful of magazines have deep enough pockets to pay that sort of price. High-end magazines, such as Vogue and Vanity Fair, could easily afford it, but it’s doubtful Jolie would want to give it to one of them, since those magazines have such long lead times—meaning that Jolie, to guarantee that the photo remained an exclusive, would have to keep her baby out of sight for several months after completing a deal.
That leaves the celebrity weeklies as Jolie’s best option, and, according to people in the industry, there are only two willing and able to pay seven figures for a photo. Although the field is still technically wide open, the Brangelina-baby-photo sweepstakes will likely come down to a duel between OK! and People.
OK!, a venerable British publication that has struggled with its new American version, has no qualms about paying celebrities. The magazine recently paid a reported $3 million for photos of Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore’s wedding that an editor at another celebrity weekly said “looked like they were taken with a camera phone.” Insiders speculate that OK! could shell out as much as $5 million for the Brangelina-baby photo, in the hope of reversing the magazine’s sagging fortunes in the U.S. (Sarah Ivens, OK!’s editor-in-chief, will only say that the magazine’s offer to Jolie and Pitt is “impressive.”) But many say OK! won’t get the photo for any price. “I’d say there’s a zero percent chance that Brad and Angelina will sell their pictures to OK!” says an editor at a magazine that plans to sit out the bidding war. “Say what you will about Brad and Angelina, but they’re not low-rent.”
That makes People—the Goliath among celebrity weeklies, with a circulation of 3.8 million that is more than double that of its nearest competitor, Us Weekly—the odds-on favorite. “People is so skillful at buying pictures but not telling anyone,” says one publicist. “You can do a photo shoot with People and come across as good parents and still get the money. If you do the same thing with OK!, the perception is that you sold your kid.” Hackett is certainly aware of his magazine’s overdog status in the Brangelina-baby sweepstakes. “Experience has shown we tend to treat these people with fairness, and we’re the biggest magazine,” he says. Still, he strongly implies that $5 million is well out of his range. Which may be why, in an effort to hedge its bets, People appears to be currying Jolie’s favor in other ways. In March, the magazine ran a glowing story about an anti-poverty initiative in the tiny African country of Malawi that Jolie has supported. Some in the industry even claim to detect a creeping anti-Aniston bias in People’s pages. “They’ve been totally ragging on Jen,” says the publicist.
Meanwhile, the other celebrity weeklies are hardly planning to go gently into the night. “I don’t think it’s a given that all photos are going to wind up in People,” insists Life&Style’s Birnbaum. “If that’s the case, we should all just fold and pitch our tents elsewhere.” A source at another weekly talks of crafting a pitch that wins over Pitt and Jolie with its goodwill. “We’ll promote your charity, we’ll throw an auction for your charity, we’ll do articles on it in our magazine, we’ll have our staff go volunteer in Africa or Haiti or wherever.”
But an editor at one celebrity weekly takes a more realistic, or perhaps jaundiced, view. “People’s going to get the picture, and there’s nothing we can do about it,” he says. “We’ll just have to counterprogram. Put Nick and Kristin on the cover that week.”
How Much For a Picture
A paparazzo reveals a few rules of the trade.
'It’s all about context.” For instance, a picture of Nicole Richie buying coffee would probably fetch only $1,000. A picture of her eating might go for $10,000 or $15,000, either as an exclusive or sold to five different magazines for $2,000 or $3,000 each. Likewise, Nick Lachey: By himself, maybe $1,000 if you’re lucky, but with another woman, such as Kristin Cavallari, if it’s exclusive it might fetch as much as $100,000. Same goes for George Clooney: a few thousand for a shot of him alone, but much more money for a picture of him with a woman. “There was a horrible photo with him and one of the Desperate Housewives in the back of a car leaving a party, and I heard they made $80,000.”
But when it comes to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, pictures of the two of them together are a dime a dozen, and therefore might not command even $1,000. But pictures of Holmes by herself can get $20,000 or $30,000. “The magazines can say, ‘Where’s Tom? Why isn’t he with her?’ ”
“Anyone in a bikini.” In the past couple of years, Jennifer Lopez has gone from A-list to C-list, and the value of her pictures has plunged. But a few weeks ago she was photographed poolside in Miami in a bikini—a picture that probably had a $25,000 price tag. “Photos of stars in bikinis will go for a minimum of $25,000. They don’t even have to be young.”

Stef - I like the cold but New York was to crowded, too busya and really fast pace. I like the slower pace of San Diego. I like England, some parts of it remind me of the Carribbean. Brad has owned the house for more than nine years. Jennifer Aniston disliked it so much that the couple never moved in during their marriage. But Brad has always loved the craftsman home and grounds. So once he separated from Aniston, he took on the renovation project with a vengeance.
Brad, who frequently visits the property and oversees construction, has three crews working 24/7. We're told the graveyard crew makes no noise; they paint and do other work that will not disturb the neighbors.
And speaking of neighbors, several tell TMZ that Brad is extremely considerate. The actor paid a visit recently to one neighbor's home, apologizing for the noise and promising to throw a cocktail party for neighbors once he, Angelina and his brood moved in.

rizos, u ever been to africa? i love it there, I taught in 1989, and then again in 2003. I find it awful for u to say that its not an amzing plaze w/ gratful people. The most selfless people ive meet live there. As a matter of fact, i taught in Kenya. Beautiful olace. All of Africa is beautiful. The people, the land. The situation is quite bad, but there is beauty surronding that.

JA's "joke" on Leno wasn't even funny. It was more like a sarcastic remark, delivered poorly. JA fans in the audience gasped and laughed hysterically though. It was actually a bit shocking because Leno didn't dare asked about him nor brought up his name. She did all on her own. This is what happened:

I guess they were trying to make a light-hearted joke (I said "they" because I don't believe for a second she came up with this line on her own). It was meant to poke fun of her now-kaput marriage by saying it was a 'rumor'. But since it was poorly delivered and because she had no charm, it came across more sarcastic.
If she were more comical, the line would have been actually very funny and she could have blown away some of her 'victim' image. But I never found anything charming about her.
Throughout the interview she frawned a LOT and at the end when Leno said, "Say hi to Vince for me" she just looked away and roled her eyes. The former "Friend" wasn't very friendly.
Rizos, guest situation is great, have room for at least 8 people,just can't wait to go back, I can even smell the Mediterranean right now :) OK, so what did you guys as a joke make kiddinnme drink or smoke to keep us fans amused till the BABY is born???? Okay, you Brangelina fans do not have to believe me when I mention this, but as far as I'm concerned, THIS IS THE TRUTH with Jennifer Aniston. When she stayed over Oprah's place during that infamous interview last year, as a close source to Oprah, this is what I found out. When she was at Oprah's she let everything out to Oprah. From what I heard, she was bawling her eyes out, saying that she had still loved Brad and that SHE DID WANT TO HAVE CHILDREN WITH HIM, but that she JUST wanted to have a little more time for her career. Even during their seperation, it killed her that Brad chose to be with Angelina. But when she knew that they both (BP & AJ) had signed up for the movie, she began to get prepared for what would happen, which is that he would get together with AJ. But JA was still devastated. As far as what I've heard, JA most definitely wanted to have children with Brad and most definitely wanted the marriage to work out. But it was HIS doing that they got seperated. She told him that she wanted to have children with him. She told him with all her heart she OF COURSE wanted to have children with him. For a couple of years, he made her feel bad for not having children with him and that is why in those interviews they would talk about how "marriage was only a pact" or that they werent sure of who each other's soul mates really were. When Brad got together with Angelina, the good actor that he is, gave a sob story to lure Angelina into getting together with him and having his baby later on. Originally, Angelina had always had kinda of crush on him for many years, but she wasn't really into him when she met him on the set of M&MS. After a while, she became very much into him and when he shared his sob story as well as his political views and wishes for a famil, she fell for him. Now alot of Angelina's fans, were disappointed that she got together with BRAD PITT of all people because he was so plain jane, hometown boy, white bread. Well, not that much, but compared to certain people, he was. That's all for now. And no need to retaliate or tell me I'm a liar. I know the truth.

So lets start with a different perspective of the same story. She was busy filming right up until August 2005 and that's not including promoting the films etc..

And if they are both in a dysfunctional and possibly destructive relationship as you imply, should they stay together??
If a woman in her 30s wanted kids and the husband did not, what would you say to that woman. I've told my women friends "- give them a ultimatum and if they still ask for more time, cut loose coz you know what, your clock is ticking. I know you'll say, but Brad's clock isnt ticking - but is that really true??? We all have clocks that tells us we should have XYZ by a certain time or else. Brad's clock may not be biological but it certainly is still a valid clock.

How many marriages are stuck together, not out of love or trust or respect, but out of financial and social necessity?

Caroline, You'lll need to clarify the above point. Which separation, the one in January 05 or when they separated when Brad and Angelina were filming M&MS? He planned to get Angelina all along?? He knew Nicole Kidman was going to drop out of the movie and he had engineered that just so that he could make sure Angelina would take the role because he knew she was free to do so though according to Doug Liman, the director and producers had hit on the AJ idea later and in fact Doug thought it would be quite fun for Gwyneth to take the role and they also considered Catherine Zeta Jones.
From your post, its clear that Jen blames it all on Brad. Yet from your own post, and arguable, in Jen's words, I would say:
(a) Angelina is not to blame for Jen's and Brad's break up. That marriage was over way back in 2003 when those interviews about "marriage being a pact" were played out and when Brad was "making Jen feel Bad" about not having kids.
(b) Both Brad and Jen obviously had issues about children in the marriage. He didn't want to wait any longer for kids. Is he wrong? She didn't want to have kids just yet? Is she wrong? NO and NO. So, the marriage fell apart with fault on both sides and I would argue, evenly distributed between Brad and Jen ( even from your own post, Caroline). Angelina was a catalyst, bringing out a deep, underlying malaise in Brad's and Jen's marriage.
by the way, I just want to say, a person who doesn't take responsibility for themselves and their feelings accuses others of "making them feel bad". A person who takes responsibility for her feelings, looks at the issues on hand, acknowledges her feelings of guilt and within her sphere of action, takes reasonable steps to rectify the negative consequences of their actions or omissions, learns from her mistakes, forgives the other party of his wrong doing and by doing all of this, lets go of the anger, the resentments - moves on. If indeed your source is correct, then Jen has yet to accept responsibility. She's still into the "he makes me feel so bad" state.

Too much attention? Yes but I think eventually things will slow down. Especially after the birth of the baby.
Too much pressure? Who are putting pressure on them? They do not need to live up to other people's expectation.
Even if their relationship don't last, they will maintain good relationship and not dissing each other in public.
I really hope that the paps will leave them alone. Stop stalking them and let them have privacy. I believe they will last as I can clearly see both of them really complementing each other and so much in love. The kids will bond them forever. I dun see why thye shd split because of the pressure. Why won't people realize that divorce occurs when two people fall out of love. Love can change shape. JA is a beautiful, rich, successful woman. However, I feel that she is only presenting her movies and her case of her marriage in a way that has been suggested by her PR. Just because their marriage did not work does not mean they both can't find happiness with other people.
I think BP/AJ should do a scene right out of The Lion King if they are still in Africa after the baby is born. Find their perfect spot, hold the baby up to the sky, and ask for a special blessing. And maybe take Maddox and Zahara, too, and ask for blessings for both of them. What a great family bond that would be.

Here, here! Good post. One thing I think people tend to lose sight of is that If JA had loved BP enough, having their baby would've been more important than her career. When I stop to think about it, that career excuse is just so lame. There are plenty of hugely successful actresses with children who haven't had to choose one over the other. Then again, these tend to be women who've made a name for themselves and have their pick of scripts that come to them naturally. They don't have to have their husbands create a production company for the express purpose of getting them work. Look at Julia Roberts. She's been in and out of relationships more often than I change shoes, BUT, she had her children on HER timeline irregardless of her work schedule.
Most women know they're going to need to take at least 6 weeks off after the baby is born and plan accordingly. JA worked in television and had to make movies in the summer so I guess she felt like there was never a time she could have 6 weeks off. But that doesn't really wash either because NBC gave her the perfect chance to BE pregnant DURING the season and give birth DURING the season. She knew well in advance that her character was going to be pregnant and the producers fully expected that she would be pregnant in real-life, too, and made plans for if she was. So what did that self-serving cow do? Nothing. She didn't take advantage of ready-made opportunity. Maybe she tried, but I doubt it. Every since Friends became a hit she's come up with one excuse after another not to have a baby and why Brad put up with it for so long boggles my mind. Maybe he loved her more than she loved him because I don't know a whole lot of men who would put up with their wife putting something off for as long as she did. Lord knows she certainly wasn't getting any younger.

Even if that Tonya Hart story is not true, I would have said the same thing Angie is reported to have said. It's like the Divorce is one big cow for Aniston to milk and milk she did.
Yet I also have to agree that Angelina shouldn't bear a grudge against Oprah for doing the show with Aniston. Heck she's a show business woman, one recognize viewers' interest in the divorce. However, I would bear a grudge if in fact Oprah has taken Aniston's side without knowing the whole truth. Oprah can't be stupid enough to think that there is only one side to a story, especially in a broken relationship; it's always the other person's fault.

I find it rather hard to believe that any of Angie's friends gave a voluntary interview with a tab. So far her friends have been mum...unlike JA's entourage...and I doubt they'd suddenly start talking at this juncture.

My opinion of Aniston is that she got too complacent with her ex. She really didn't think he would leave the nest and be so decisive about it.

The Star is just the worst horseshit rag out there. They proclaim outrageous things and when they are proven untrue, they never mention it. AJ has other fish to fry than to complain to some bogus "friend" about Chin. And the wording is very suspect--that Chin used Oprah to "turn the public agaiinst" Jolie and Pitt. If anything, Brangelina have gotten much more sympathy in the past six months and it's little Miss Mope whose popularity is plummeting because the public is tired of her whining. Passing Through, Jen did not just have the opportunity when her character got pregnant. Many sitcom actresses are pregnant and they shoot around it. Also, on her own show, Lisa Kudrow was pregnant the the producers were very accommodating and wrote it in and let her nurse and so on. I have come to believe she never loved Brad, she loved the idea of how the Sexiest Man Alive could help her career.

TMZ.com under hottest rumors is talking about JA quitting LA and moving to Chicago. It goes on about what a rough ride she has had in Hollywood since the divorce and how it has caused her much pain and even humiliation, etc., very sympathetic to JA.
I don't for a minute believe she is moving to Chicago, she is obsessed with her career and would be out of the limelight there. However, we can always hope.

Okay here's the lowdown. In the Primetime Live interview with Diane Sawyer, he claimed that he got the "anti-ring" as a freebie from a photo shoot and it wasn't from anybody. But in the Vanity Fair interview, he said it was from a friend. We're all assuming the ring did come from Angie. He wears it religiously, so it obviously has a lot of symbolic meaning than some freebie he supposedly got from a photoshoot.

I read that, too, in NY Post about the reshoot the movie from "The Breakup" to "The Makeup" with Vince and Jen making up. What's the point, then? Too bad I wasn't in the test audience for I wouldv'e suggested the movie be done as the "Undo." Just undo the movie and spare us all of a straight-to-DVD film anyway.
It sounds like Jennifer needs to plant herself in the Lifetime Channel, where she can rerun her pity party movie to eternity and nobody watches.

I only used her character's pregnancy as an example of a time when she could've been pregnant and it didn't interfere with what the producers were planning for the character. A lot of times an actress will get pregnant and the producers will have a fit because it interferes with their plans for the show. But when the producers know that your husband is a big muckety-muck and wants kids and you're saying that you want to have his kids and then they go out of their way to accomodate her having a kid...and then she doesn't and still gives BP the excuse that wants to concentrate on her career? I can bearly wrap my brain around the fact that BP fell for that! Shit. I'm embarrassed FOR HIM.
I was never a friends fan, but I have friends who watched the show. I remember that towards the end of one season they were talking about a possibility that JA's character was going to get pregnant by the David Schwimmer character - Ross? - and they wall wondered if JA was FINALLY pregnant so BP would shut the hell up about wanting kids. And of course she wasn't pregnant and here were are 3 or 4 years later and BP finally bought a freaking clue and got away from her lying ass.
JA's just stupid. I used to be a huge soap fan. I lost track of the number of times an actress was pregnant and her character wasn't. The actress was stuck holding pillows in front of her, standing in front of large plants or only shown in head-and-should shots. For her to say it was never a good time to have a baby is a load of bull hockey. If women waited until "a good time" to have babies mankind would've died out long ago. Because as far as I've been able to determine in my own life...it's never a good time for getting up at 3am to feed, burp, and diaper someone!

Cindy2, don't get me started on children's programming these days! Egads, the stuff is wretched. I grew up with Sesame Street, the Electric Company, Captain Kangaraoo (and the pervy Mr. Green Jeans) and ultra-gay Mr. Rogers. When I see my friends kids watching Sponge Bob, Teletubbies, Nickolodian (or whatever the heck they're calling themselves these days)...it absolutely makes me cringe. It's really a shame that Tom Cruise went over the edge because he sure could have been a good ally with his megastar status and power. As wacky as he is, his kids and Brad/Angie's could be perfect playmates.
I've lost track of where the discussion of the casting of Angie in Ocean's 13 was, so I'm going to post here.
I've said this before and I'll say it again. Brad and Angie had such natural on-screen chemistry, they could read a telephone directory and there would still be magic on film. Whereas, Nicole Kidman would make you feel like you're listening to a recording. She does have that cold aura about her. For that reason, I think they would be great together on Ocean's 13.
Yeah, I said that the Ocean's series were fluff, but fluff can be fun, if done right. Since Ocean's 13 might be the first film they do together since their official hookup, they could play their roles as inside jokes. The Julia Roberts' inside joke on Ocean's 12 didn't work, but there may be a lot of material in the world of Brad and Angie to parody like a well-written Saturday Night Live skit circa the original cast or Eddie Murphy days.
When that indefinable, fateful on-screen chemistry is there (because not many co-stars have it), they should take advantage of it. Interestingly enough, the last acting couple I knew that had that same smoldering chemisty was the Hong Kong stars of Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung on "In the Mood for Love" (one of Julia's favorite films of all time). Their repressed love for each other seemed so real on screen that many of their fans believed and wanted them to be lovers off screen. Indeed, there were lots of rumors of the two having an affair, even as he has been in a rocky, on-off relationship with another actress for over 13 years. But I digress a bit. It's a beautiful, languid film for anyone interested in foreign films and don't mind reading subtitles. Be forewarned though, you'll be having a craving for wonton noodles after watching it, so keep that Chinese takeout menu at hand.
As I mentioned before Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy did about 9 films together, as have Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. As long as there is good material, Paul and Joanne wouldn't turn down another chance to work together. Well, now that he is approaching retirement, maybe not, but he'll still work with her as a director maybe. Though Paul and Joanne are a lovely couple and they were cute in "Paris Blues" together, their chemistry never was as sizzling as Brad and Angie's.
It may be a different era with a more demanding, sophisticated audience, which may test the saturation point of the on-screen pairing of Brad and Angie. But in my mind, even when they come to a point of losing their sex appeal, they will always have an endearing quality about them - the same that Paul and Joanne have, even after being together for nearly 48 years.
I don't think I'll ever lose interest in them together in a film, as long as they don't stoop to phoning it in and doing cookie-cutter romantic comedies.

In today's NY Post, Director Robert Rodriguez has filed for divorce from his wife of 16 years (sigh, another divorce). But within days he has a new love. She is Rose McGowan, Marilyn Manson's ex. They mentioned how they spend a lot of time together and working on a special project. I wonder if it the lead, Ava, in Sin City 2? Physically, Rose McGowan would be perfect for the role.

cindy2 have you ever seen the French film A Man and a Woman starring Anouk Aimee? It's from the 1960's. I fantasize a remake with Brad & Angelina. It wouldn't be a commercial gilm but more art house/indie film all shot in Paris. I love this film. It's so French, LOL!!!!
Frenchy, I think I've heard of the film but I may not have seen it. The only 60s French film that I have seen that comes to mind is "Le Samourai." It's a film that John Woo said inspired his version of "The Killer."
Interesting film proposal though. I would most definitely prefer that than the Reese Witherspoon- romantic-comedy prototypes for Brad and Angie. Cutesy isn't going to work for them.

I could not think of any remake that are sucessful, especially in romantic comedy category. I've heard that GC is doing a remake of " All the president men"?, I think a thriller or a drama are better at remake..remember the movie " An affair to remember", the remake was not well received at all, eventhough it was good..husband and wife team, Warren Beatty and Annette Bening.

Don't need to agree with everything Lainey's comment. She loves the Beckhams and I absolutely abhor them. Still think she is entertaining and has reliable gossip sources. When it comes to beautiful, I only agree with her on Angelina Jolie.
Estelle I think remakes of films that still linger in the public's mind is not a wise decision. Especially when the films are classics. Why bother redoing something that was done well? It's akin to Michael Bolton doing covers of old classic R & B songs. Please, spare us. Just the same as Celine Dion even daring to do a cover of Etta James "At Last." It's sacrilegious. Nobody is going to outdo Etta James, so save it.
I wouldn't even touch the classic black and white films either. Don't bother with remaking "The Philadelphia Story," "It Happened One Night," "Roman Holiday," etc. There is a reason they are considered classics.
But remakes of foreign films, which aren't in the American public's consciousness, can work. For most of us, we have no reference point. If you've seen the original foreign film you may be disappointed. I thought the American "Dark Waters" paled to the original Japanese version.
With Brad's production company remaking "Infernal Affairs," the original Hong Kong film didn't have a tight script so it could use improvement. There were too many plot holes. It was basically the premise of the film that was its selling point.
OMgosh...the remake of "Internal Affair"...I like that film...yeah, I wonders who will be in it...humm, come to think of it, you are right, foreign films do work. I can think of a few that turn out very profitable.

Okay, Johnny Depp does have a feminine quality to him, but he can put that aside. Case in example, his great tour de force performance in "Pirates of the Caribbean."
I thought Joaquin Phoenix did a good job in "Gladiator" (yet to see him in "Walking the Line"), but he doesn't have great romantic chemistry. There's a weird quality to him even though I know he could nail that brooding aspect of Heathcliff.
Bottom line, I just want a casting of Johnny Depp and Angie. Make it happen.

with her career and really believed Brad loved her enough that he would wait. I can see why she felt devastated as well when she realized that love wasn't strong enough for him to be put on hold any longer. I believe she was worried about it too when she realized Angelina signed on to do MAMS. ( single mom wanting more kids.... amongst other things) I believe too that it was through the MAMS set connection Jen first connected with Vince Vaughn, as she could get the scoop on what was happening on the set. If something was going on.....believe me Jen would have known! Her new lover to be was right there, so the fact that she said he didn't cheat has always been good enough for me. I agree Oprah, like Catherine Keener take a lead in Jen's affairs and slant the picture the way they see it too and/or to protect Jen. freinds do that for eachother and Jen has NOT handled this to well and they know it.
I am sure Angie is PO'd. I would be too, as it is truly shallow and self serving to redress" the seperation" simply to fit your style and gain public sympathy. I appreciated when Jen did say in her vanity fair article that each person has to own their part, the truth just hit hard when she put the higher % on Brad. Like 98% was it...... This is when I really thought that article was to gain pity for something undeserved and she lost me as a believer.

A lot of times stars who are getting together show great chemistry on screen then in subsequent movies together it's lacking. I'd hate to see that happen to B&A. LIke Bugsy, Beatty and Bening were HOT, but in Love Affair, they were bland. I agree not to overexpose them as a couple, the tabs could turn them into Bennifer. Best to wait a bit to work together again.

Bennifer got a lot of mileage about their relationship, but Brangelina is hotter because of their refusal to communicate with the media. Bennifer was all about PDA most of the time (in fact so much it made me want to gag) but with Brangelina being so mysterious and uncommunicative, with the media, that made them even more desirable and sought after.
Of course, with Gigli bombing and M&MS making so much money, Bennifer got less attention and Brangelina got more and more even after a year. (Man, I hate this 400 character limit).
Have any of you ever wseen LaFemme Nikita? It is one of my favorite, I buy every season-Brad and Angie could play Michaela dn Nikita and sell theatres out!
They were photographed during Chrismas buying christmas trees. The house in Malibu is not really concealed with high fences and shubbery-They were also pictured on the beach behind Pitts house(there are stairs leading directly down). The ONLY place in Malibu where stars can go and NOT be photographed is Pepperdine-Pepperdine is gated and you cannot get through-JA and CCox used to walk around there

I hate to put Brangelina and Bennifer in the same category!!! I mean only the media frenzy of putting them on every mag cover. These two have so much more going for them, I'd hate to see the tabs ruin them with overexposure, even with B&A being so classy and private. La Femme Nikita was a movie first, with Bridget Fonda. I'd like to see Angie do some dramatic roles, because her emotions are so raw and she can convey so much with her face. Let's not forget she won three Golden Globes and an Oscar by her mid-20's! With life experience, she will only get better! JA had to play the same character for 11 years to get an Emmy. Brad is also turned on by A's talent.
I am so sick and tired of people, esp. women, calling Angelina a whore, a slut, etc. You would think women would rally towards a woman who is independent, speaks her own mind, does not worry about what anyone thinks of her, and is confident of her own sexuality. I didn't like that movie at all-The serires is totally totally different in fact the guy (joel surnow) who writes for 24 wrote for Lafemme Nikita-Lafemme Nikita is a cross between 24 and Alias and its better than both! It amazes me the people who call her names like that, Grace. Especially if these people were single and could, they would also have lovers. Is she supposed to be a nun until marriage? Is this the 1940's still? She's just HONEST about it. And the whole adultery thing -- I don't care if Brad DID cheat. That would only put him the same as 75% of American marriages. (BANG) - Jennifer Aniston's new movie has been panned by test audiences."The Break Up" - which the star fell for new boyfriend, Vince Vaughan, onset - is her latest attempt to win favor with cinemagoers after a string offlops, but initial reactions have not been good.
An insider told America's New York Post newspaper: "The original screenplayhad Jennifer and Vince's characters breaking up at the end...So it was shot that way - but test audiences hated it. It tested really, and I mean really, badly."
As a result of the negativity, the lead actors had to re-shoot parts of thefilm, reportedly costing the studio millions.
The source added: "The new ending has them getting back together in the end. It should really be called 'The Make Up.' People want to see Jennifer happy after she was thrown over by Brad Pitt for Angelina Jolie."
SOOO agree Melissa! It's jealousy really. I have friends who call her a slut and say she seduces her costars. Then I remind them of the affairs they have had in their marriages. To some women, such blatant sexuality and beauty is a threat. I admire her, because she is not exploiting her sexuality, like Britney or Madonna, (I like Madonna) but is simply honest about her sleeping with men. So what?

Yeah, J, you're right. Brad sacrificed everything for her because he really loved her. He knew the brickbats going his way, esp. from Aniston fans, and yet he followed his heart. I don't think it's just the sex but it's everything else - a past for which she has no apologies, a present as a great Mom, and a bright future as an award-winning actress and philantropist. How could he not fall for it?

Man, ANOTHER Aniston flop-in-the-making! I had hoped that this would be a good movie for her, so she would SHUT THE F- UP. I am dreading the rounds she will make promoting this movie in May and June. Man, I have to switch channels quickly again!!! I just am glad that's probably the time the littlest Jolie-Pitt would appear and blow Jen's news away!

I am always still surprised when I hear what a big fan base JA has. I know people liked her ok as Rachel, and I guess the fairy tale marriage to Brad made her a bigger star. But if she has such a big fan base, why haven't all her movies been hugely successful?

Maybe it's more of a noisy fanbase as opposed to a big one? Otherwise, how come most of her movies flopped, despite the fans' determination to have her finally hit the big time?
Have you guys heard about the news (or tabloid rumor) that Angie supposedly threw up when she heard of Aniston's sob party at Ophrah and Angie decided to cut O off? It's all over today.

Just wanted to mentioned to the above post about "La Femme Nikita". It was originallyl a French film. A hit in France and in the US foreighn language category.It was then remade here in the US then made into a TV series. You must see the original. It's fantastic. The film loses a lot in the traslation. Boring American remake and even more boring TV show.

Desperate tabs asking Brad's house keeper what type of cleanser he like...lol. I am at work and I tell you I almost split a gut because I can see that. I read something yesterday that had me reaching for the power button on my comp. The headline read "Brad and Angie's baby protected by lions....or something like that. What?! Are they kidding me? I've lived in various parts in Africa and the only time I've seen a lion is at the zoo or game reserve. They make it sound like there are lions running around like puppies. It is so sad really, they are reaching.

Jackson, Monority Report with Tom Cruise and on a lesser case the movie with Ben Affleck.....ah, the point is, now there is no incentive whatsoever to go see the movie. It even has Eva Longoria in it. Eva? Gabby from Dep. Housewives? Yeah, okay, moving on.
