Tom Cruise is on the record about his life and work and loves…in a revealing May cover story from GQ. Cruise sits for an energetic, funny, and candid interview and talks openly about some of the most controversial public and personal events in his life during the past year. He also appears in an exceptional portfolio of photographs taken exclusively for GQ by Brigitte Lacombe.
The May issue of GQ hits newsstands nationwide on April 25, 2006.
Kaylin last interviewed Cruise for GQ’s December 2004 “Men of the Year” issue after his startling tour de force performance in Collateral. Since then Cruise has been an inescapable presence.
Cruise does not shy away from controversy. Talking about his explosive interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show last spring, he says: “I thought I was pretty restrained. I’ve been pissed off about things, believe me. I thought it was a terrific interview. I wasn’t pissed; I just was intense on wanting to communicate.”
Cruise and Kaylin discuss further criticism he faced last year concerning controversial comments he made about Brooke Shields and her experience with postpartum depression. “I actually really care about Brooke,” says Cruise. “The first film I ever did [Endless Love] was hers, and I remember when I was growing up, and not even being in the industry yet, thinking how talented and beautiful she is. And she’s a lovely girl. It’s not her fault; she’s a victim in this situation. A doctor told her to go on Paxil while she was breast-feeding. Paxil is a vicious drug. Here’s someone I deeply care about.”
When Cruise is asked to explain some of what Kaylin has understood about “a kind of Scientology creation story—an intergalactic conflict” in the Church of Scientology, he responds: “You say this stuff to me and it’s insulting. That’s why I’m not even going to dignify what you’re saying. There’s always a lot of misinformation out there. I’m doing pretty good. Look at the things that have helped me in my life. You hear this other stuff—come on, it’s crap!”
And Cruise addresses the question of whether it is damaging for him or his career to talk so strongly and directly about personal issues: “It’s the exact opposite. You have no idea how many people have thanked me. You can try to create a PR machine that’s going to put out misinformation and discredit someone. But that’s not gonna stop me. Ever, ever. It’s the right thing to do.”

With so much on his plate, Cruise talks about the joys and complexities of juggling his career and being a co-parent for Isabella and Connor, his two older children with Nicole Kidman. He says, “What we have is sensational: two happy, healthy kids that we share time with. Both parents get to have a great life and get to do something that we love. That’s not hard, man. I know hard—when your mom comes home and she can barely walk ’cuz her feet and her back hurt, and where’s the food? That’s hard. And you realize, we’re gonna sink or swim.”
Finally, Cruise names the role he’s been proudest to play in life: “I wanted to be a father. And be a good father. Be a great father. I want to be the best father.”
The May 2006 issue also features a handsome portfolio of photographs taken by Brigitte Lacombe. For the March shoot, Cruise piloted his own plane and Holmes flew in separately to be with him at the location, a small airport in California’s Mojave Desert. The issue presents an accomplished photographic spread, in color and black-and-white, across more than ten pages.

I know for experience that my son was pushed by the LAUSD to go see the school psychiatrist in the 2nd grade because his teacher said he was too stubborn and unorganize....This is the truth. The school admin thought maybe he might need drugs to relax him....I said no way, I met the teacher and she was weak and didn't have control of her class. So yes, what TC is saying is based on facts.

I used to think he was alright and I supported his movies but no more. He has proven more and more from the moment he divorced Nicole to now that he's an arrogant, self absorbed, egotistical, loon.
