Janet Jackson's Weight Loss

(Bigger pictures in the gallery!) Janet Jackson, newly svelte after losing 60 pounds, says she gained weight for a role in the upcoming movie "Tennessee," which she ultimately had to pass on because of her new album. "They (the producers) wanted to see me in a different light, as a heavier woman," the 40-year-old singer, who weighed about 180 pounds at her heaviest, tells Us magazine in an issue on newsstands Friday.

"The timing didn't quite work with trying to finish my album, and unfortunately I wasn't able to do the film. (The role went to Mariah Carey) So I found myself having to take this weight off a lot quicker than I had planned." Jackson says she packed on the pounds by eating whatever she wanted."`Ooh, that looks good, give me that whole slice of cake!' That was the fun part," she says. "(Eventually) I would look in the mirror and I wouldn't recognize myself."

The 5-foot-4-inch Jackson says she got back into shape in four months by eating "nice, balanced meals" and working out with a trainer. Her longtime boyfriend, music producer Jermaine Dupri, was a motivation. "I've never had someone love me for me, so unconditionally, the way he does, regardless of my size," she says. "He was never any different toward me."

When asked about reaction to her plus-size body, Jackson says, "People didn't treat me differently to my face, but I'm sure they had their whispers behind my back. But I didn't feel bad about myself at all. It was part of my job."

Her latest album, "20 Years Old," is slated for release Sept. 26.

"I feel good," she says. "It wasn't until I saw a picture of myself, just recently, actually, that I thought, `Wow, you really did lose a lot of weight!'" She adds: "For now, it's just nice for me to get back down to where I feel more comfortable with me."  [AP]

HOTTER THAN FISH GREASE!!! just delicious

WTF.. 60 lbs in 4 months? I only managed to lose 8 lbs in th last two month! Pfft. ::jealous::

She is airbrushed like everyone else.........don't believe the hype, people.

Who knows? Maybe the weight was put on for some movie role, I just find it hard to believe that her PR people would let her promote a new cd looking the way she was.

I'm proud of Janet Jackson for losing all that weight. She looks absolutely gorgeous! Can't wait till her new CD comes out.

60 lbs in 4 months isn't safe for anyone and chances are she'll gain most of it back. Plus, what's up with the way she's promoting her weight loss? It looks more like she's trying to whore her new album out then to actually be proud of dropping an insane amount of weight at once.

Jen, she doesn't even mention the album at all in the interview. All she talks about is how she gained/lost the weight. In fact, she's been pretty hush-hush about her album this whole time.

But she needs to learn howo to find a weight and stay at it to be healthy

to filipinaprics... they can't airbrush 60 lbs away

test

To lose 60 pounds in 4 months you'd have to burn about 1720 more calories a day than you consume, so it can be done without pills, surgery or airbrushing, but you'd have to spend at least 3 hours working out EVERY day of that four months. This is assuming that you don't increase your calorie intake, which would be hard because you'd be ravenous and would need extra fuel to get you through these workouts. In short, it can be done, but you'd need a trainer to work with you every day and an on-call dietician/chef. It could be that her weight loss is real, but its not realistic for people with full time jobs, kids, etc. It's part of her job to look good, so it makes sense for her to devote herself to weight loss full-time for four months, but for most people losing 8 pounds over 2 months while meeting all your other obligations is excellent progress.

She had such an awesome body before, those muscles were still there under the flab. Losing weight is not rocket science -- burn off more than you take in. With lots of cardio, which, if she has a CD coming up means she's dancing for videos and probably an upcoming tour by next year, she can lose those pounds by getting back to small, sensible meals. Bodies have memory -- I can gain weight quickly, but if I'm exercising every day and not overeating, it goes away quickly, too. For Janet, who has a supremely fit body under the flab and lots of muscle and flexibility, all she had to do was get back to her regular routine and the fat will melt away.

Bravo! Good post. That's something that a lot of people miss -- losing weight is a celebrity's JOB. Then again, a lot of people have cubicle jobs where they sit all day. They sit in the car on te way to work, then sit at work, then sit on the way home, then sit in front of the TV or with kids doing homework, stand for a half hour making dinner, then sit. And for all this sitting, they eat three meals a day, and go to bed a couple of hours after a big dinner. Then they wonder why they are overweight. If you AREN'T working out three hours a day, you don't need all that food! And three hours for a dancer really isn't that much or if you are wanting to lose a lot of weight -- I walk the dog for an hour a day and that's not even a workout, just a warmup, and most workout tapes are an hour and that's just to maintain being in shape.
Demi Moore was working out five hours a day for GI Jane, so I can see Janet doing that to lose 60 pounds and get ready to make videos for an upcoming CD. But yeah, if you already have a job, just eat a lot less and do a half hour before work and a half hour after work. Also, don't take a full lunch hour to eat and sit. Take a walk.

ahh..the janet we know is back.

Didn't anybody read that she gained all that weight for a movie? She even explained how she gained all the weight, which is basically eating all that she wanted, so if you suddenly stop eating 10000 carbs a day, you will start losing weight.

#12, i get the bus into work as it is far too early for me to walk into work, but i always walk home - takes me about an hour, but i feel much better for it, and quite often i arrive home sooner than my housemates who get a ride home due to all the traffic. i have a job where i sit all day, and it does breed laziness, so this is another reason i walk. i dont want to get unfit.

Janet is notorious for plastic surgery. I'm sure that had a BIG
part in her "transformation" It stinks how she tries to make it
sound like it was all due to her dedication to "eating less and
working out more" !

I love walking, don't you? It feels good, you actually get to see your neighborhood, and it's low impact. You don't have to get all sweaty and yet your heart rate rises. I feel it in my butt if I walk uphill, and it works out all the kinks after sitting a long time. I'll bet you're in a better mood when you get home than your housemates, too!

she looks really good....I wish I could be so disciplined like her.

This is called LIPOSUCTION. Don't be fooled!

Well she looks great...but if I had a personal trainer and a personal chef, I'd look that good too.

Big girls, stop hating. If she did extreme dieting with pills or major surgery that's her business. The fact is she did something for herself. Maybe she is falsely promoting exercise; however if she is that should be motivation for you all to do something with yourselves. If this applies to you deal with it, if not take it with a grain of salt and get a life!!!!!

i just want a celebrity who has recently dropped a ridiculous amount of weight in a ridiculously small amount of time to come out in the spotlight and say, "oh man this diet sucks. gimme some freakin' pizza!"

See what having money can do for you! Hard work yes - paying to have your meals cooked for you and a personal trainer, yes!

Liposuction doesn't give you muscles like that. She is so toned -- only exercise and regularly ifted weights or use of those muscles can do that.

Jealous much? Stop making excuses -- of course if you have money and time you could have a cook and a personal trainer. But ask yourself how many hours are spent in front of the TV? What do you do on your lunch hour? Do you take stairs or the elevator? Do you walk to the video store or post office or to the grocery store for small items? Do you bike, hike, swim, dance on the weekends?
I'm sorry but I have overweight friends who make comments like yours all the time -- right before meeting for cheesecake, or eating a meal larger than necessary. I had one friend who was shocked at the size of the Glad bags made for snacks -- so small!! They are for SNACKS and she was amazed that they weren't so much bigger. Then she moaned that a half hour on the treadmill three times a week wasn't doing anything for her fat ass. Gee, I wonder why....

Everyone has 24 hours in the day. How you use them is your choice, and the foods you put in your mouth are your choice. Don't blame celebrities who work out and eat right for your weight troubles.

Just me being suspicious, they may have thought Janet was so vain she wouldn't do it. She proved them wrong. My suspicions are they probably wanted Mariah anyway.I don't trust that movie world scene. But Janet is one confident chick.
You go girl!!! I am looking forward to the Tour.

Maybe it was all a publicity stunt in the first place. Reports have stated the possibility the the "fat Janet" was a plant to plunge her back into the spot ight on a more positive note. Think about it.

It's all about the steroids.
Interestingly steroids are used in about a 3 month cycle. And to get that type of muscle definition on a woman, after losing 60lbs., and in only 4months.. Steroids.

hey, that is all the rave in gyms throughout the country. More power to her.

alright......she MUST have had some sort of plastic surgery to correct all the stretch marks she would have......60lbs is a lot! I realize it's all airbrushed in the pics and i know it's possible to loose that amount of weight (although an intense and healthy weightloss is about -2lbs per week) but there are definately repercussions to gaining that much weight and then losing it all so quickly. Think of the stretch marks!
AND what about this Mariah Carey issue...the movie role went to her? How come she didn't have to gain 60lbs?
Props to janet for taking off the weight whichever way she did it. The obesity epidemic makes me sick to my stomach.
