On behalf Global Green USA’s board of directors and competition jury chair Brad Pitt, welcome to the Sustainable Design Competition for New Orleans – Advancing the Green Rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast!
This competition combines Global Green USA’s commitment to green affordable housing, sustainable cities, and climate solutions that work for communities, with Brad Pitt’s passion for intelligent architecture. The competition is a central component of Global Green USA’s sustainable rebuilding initiative for New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, which began 10 days after the landfall of Hurricane Katrina. The idea for the competition developed from a conversation between Brad Pitt and myself at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York City in September 2005.
This design competition is truly an opportunity to give back to New Orleans, the birthplace of great culture, music, food, and architecture. It is our goal that green design, clean energy and healthy building be central to the rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Using culturally, environmentally and climactically appropriate designs, materials and strategies, we hope the submissions to this competition will use great creativity and offer powerful ideas to help achieve this goal.
Global Green USA’s “Healthy Homes and Smart Neighborhoods Response Team” initiative for New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region is an outgrowth of the organization’s decade-long commitment to improving the lives of low-income families through greening affordable housing, creating sustainable neighborhoods, and advancing climate solutions that work for communities. In short, focusing on community solutions that address two of our greatest global challenges: climate change, and poverty.
Global Green USA’s goals include: greening 10,000 homes (via policy incentives through tax credit financing and guidelines developed with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity); educating the public and professionals about green and healthy building (via our New Orleans resource center, education, and workshops); encouraging the greening schools and places of worship. With support from the Home Depot Foundation, Jerry and Ann Moss, and dozens of individuals (including staff members of Global Green USA), we opened a New Orleans’ office in February and a Green Building Resource Center in May. The office and center were established also in part to serve as a design collective – with a front end education center for the public and professionals with nearly museum quality display of products and systems that are green, of good design, and regionally available -- to help build the green building expertise of the local professional community. The competition will help advance this goal.

Competition sponsors Global Green and Brad Pitt have as their goal the generation of ideas for sustainable redevelopment in New Orleans, redevelopment that will encourage livable cities everywhere and discourage the consumption of non-renewable resources; redevelopment that will help lower their dependence on fossil fuels and their byproducts; redevelopment that will lead New Orleans to a position of prominence in the area of sustainable development and thus help recapture its reputation as a place of innovation and leadership.

#75 ROB, For your information, if you have read Marianne Pearl's recent interview, she chose Brad Pitt among the other bidders coz he was the only one who read the book. Get It??? In fact, in one of the interview of Aniston, she was asked which part of the book she liked, and was not able to say anthing coz she has not read the book. Thats how stupid she is, talking about something she has no clue at all. In her Vogue interview, aniston was so interested in playing the part but she is not sure yet, coz I think Brad has not said yes yet. Brad is a shrewd businessman, he knows his then wife do not have the talent and range to be able to play the part. With Angie, its different, he has no qualms in giving her the part, cos he knows she is a good actress and will do it well for the movie to be successful.

Paramount Vantage will produce and handle worldwide distribute for A Mighty Heart based on the book "A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl" by Mariane Pearl and Sarah Crichton. The film will star Academy Award Winner Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl and will be directed by Michael Winterbottom (Welcome to Sarajevo, 24 Hour Party People). Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner of Plan B, Andrew Eaton and Revolution Films will produce. The announcement was made today by John Lesher, President of Vantage.
"I hope the film will serve as a lasting remembrance of Danny's life and the incredible journey Mariane endured to uncover the truth. I am tremendously proud to join Michael, Angelina, Brad, along with Mariane in sharing this courageous story with all those who have been touched by it," said Lesher. "Michael Winterbottom has given an authenticity to so many thought provoking films during his career and Danny and Mariane's story will be treated with the same respect and urgency he has brought to his considerable body of work."
The film is based on Mariane Pearl's account of the terrifying and unforgettable story of her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Danny Pearl's life and death. "I am delighted that Angelina Jolie will be playing my role in the adaptation of my book," said Pearl. "I deeply admire her work and what she is committed to. I am also happy that Michael Winterbottom a versatile and talented director who genuinely loves truth will be working on this project as well." The story covers Danny's reasons for being in Karachi, Pakistan, the complete story of his abduction, the intense effort to find him during the weeks following his disappearance and his eventual murder. Mariane Pearl is an award-winning documentary film director who produced and hosted a daily radio show for Radio France International and has written for Telerama.
Picked up in turnaround from Warner Bros., the film was originally set-up at the studio by then Plan B partners Pitt and Brad Grey. Lesher commented "Brad Pitt's Plan B has proven to be first class creative partners and both Brad Grey and I are looking forward to developing numerous projects with them in the coming years."
Pitt stars, alongside Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal, in the upcoming Paramount Vantage release of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Babel. The film will be released by Vantage on October 27, 2006. In 2007 the studio will release Mike White's Year of the Dog, a Black and White Productions film along with Plan B. Dede Gardner of Plan B is producing.
Jolie's upcoming projects include Universal's The Good Shepherd, directed by Robert De Niro and co-starring Matt Damon, Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf for Paramount, and DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda.

I totally agree that AJ will be great for the Marianne Pearl story. Although yes, she may not ethnically fit the role, it may have been hard to find someone who was. Anyway - she will do a great job. And really, there was never any way that JA could pull off a role like this. It's just wishful thinking on her part.

Angelina Jolie will play Mariane Pearl, the widow of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, in a movie produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B production company, Pitt has confirmed to PEOPLE.
"The film will focus on the deep collaboration between people around the world in search of Daniel in 2002," Pitt tells PEOPLE. "We hope the film can increase understanding between people of all faiths and portray the story and the people involved as honestly as possible without anger or judgment."
Contrary to reports claiming that Pitt's ex, Jennifer Aniston, was earlier cast as Mariane Pearl, a rep for Pitt and Jolie tells PEOPLE, "Jennifer was never attached to that role. When the project was first brought to Plan B, Jen was a partner in the company at the time."
The film will be adapted from Pearl's memoir, A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl, which chronicles her experience after her husband was abducted by Islamic extremists in Pakistan in early 2002. A month later, his captors released a video depicting his murder.
Pearl, a French journalist, was pregnant when her husband was kidnapped and gave birth to their son Adam in May of that year.
"I am delighted that Angelina Jolie will be playing my role in the adaptation of my book," Pearl said in a statement released Thursday by Paramount Vintage. "I deeply admire her work and what she is committed to."
The film will start shooting in the fall. It is Jolie's first dramatic role since the May 27 birth of her daughter with Pitt, Shiloh Nouvel.
Earlier this week it was reported that Jolie will lend her voice to the DreamWorks animated feature Kung Fu Panda, in the role of Tigress, a martial arts teacher. The film, due next May, also stars Jack Black.

Even JA admitted a while back when she was still part of Plan B that she is not quite sure that she could do the role of Mariane Pearl. If even she is not sure, why are these entertainment people so heckbent on maligning Angie, saying she stole the role from JA? What is it about them and that favorite word in association with Ange - STOLE, as in "she stole Brad" and "she stole the sure-fire Oscar role" from JA? Good morning all, it is such a beautiful day and Friday to boot. Well, I am very disheartened by some of the tabloids and so-called entertainment news reporters who seem to have no clue on anything and should be sued for defamation of character. Anyway, I am hoping that Brad will put to rest a few misconceptions when he speaks with Ann Curry on Monday, and I think he will - albeit it will be a slow process but the truth will be known.
