Freddie Prinze Jr. is joining the cast of the Fox series 24 as a regular, playing Davis Cole, a recently returned Marine who runs CTU Field Ops (via THR).

The 33-year-old actor will start shooting in New York City soon, where the upcoming eighth season has already started production. Earlier this year, it was reported that Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire) will be playing a Middle East leader and Chris Diamantopoulos will take on the role of the president’s new chief of staff.

This project is perfect for Prinze as his pregnant wife Sarah Michelle Gellar is also in town to shoot her new pilot, The Wonderful Maladys.

Chris Diamantopoulos will play Rob Weiss, the new Chief of Staff to President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones) in the upcoming 8th season of 24, reports EW.

The 34-year-old actor, who’s best known playing Debra Messing’s gay BFF on The Starter Wife, will help prevent an assassination plot against a visiting foreign leader (Slumdog Millionaire’s Anil Kapoor) in New York City.

On Monday’s season finale, President Taylor’s daughter Olivia relinquished her duties as C.O.S. back to Ethan Kanin.

FYI: Chris and Ugly Betty star Becki Newton, who plays the deliciously catty receptionist Amanda, celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary earlier this month. Maybe you remember the couple’s super sexy beach romp?

Slumdog Millionare star Anil Kapoor has joined the cast of 24 as a series regular for season eight!

The 49-year-old Indian actor will play a Middle Eastern leader who comes to the U.S. on a peacemaking mission.

24 is currently in its seventh season with the two-hour finale airing @ 8PM ET/PT on Monday, May 18.

Slumdog Millionare picked up a whopping eight Oscars this past year, including Best Picture and Best Director.

• Mel Gibson appeared on the Leno yesterday and made light of his battle with booze, but never mentioned his DUI and anti-Semitic tirade. Mel nibbled on a cookie at the beginning of the interview and joked that the treat was a reward from someone backstage for staying sober. “He told me if I could walk a straight line, I could have a cookie,” he said.
• Courtney Cox thinks a Friends reunion may be in the works: “I’m just saying I’m not opposed to it. Jennifer (Aniston) said she’s not opposed to it. When we say ‘reunion’… do a little thanksgiving episode, sure…why not what are we all doing? It sounds fun.”
• Rebecca Romijn joined the cast of Ugly Betty playing the mysterious masked woman working with Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams).
