Last week, it was reported that Jake Gyllenhaal might be spending a lot of time with Abbie Cornish, as his leading lady in an upcoming sci-fi flick.

Meanwhile Abbie, 26, can be seen in Bright Star, an upcoming drama based on the three-year romance between 19th century poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne (Abbie’s character), which was cut short by Keats’ untimely death at age 25.

Bright Star is scheduled to be released sometime in 2009.

Abbie Cornish is already dating Reese Witherspoon’s ex-husband, Ryan Phillippe, but soon may also be spending a lot of time with Reese’s current squeeze, Jake Gyllenhaal.

An insider tells In Touch that producers on Jake’s next movie are considering Abbie as his leading lady. The sci-fi flick is about an expedition to the moon to start a lunar colony and is due out in 2010.

“This is one of those only-in-Hollywood situations,” the insider says. “It could work out as long as Reese doesn’t visit Jake on the set.”

Can we say a-w-k-w-a-r-d?

After riding the early morning waves, Ryan Phillippe covers his face with his surfboard as he walks back to his truck in Los Angeles on Friday.

His actress girlfriend Abbie Cornish and a mystery male followed Ryan to the car at a distance.

The couple reportedly share a $7.4 million five-bedroom and seven-bathroom house together. It also has an outdoor living area that includes a spa, sauna and steam room, a fire pit and an Asian-style gazebo overlooking a pool.

New on DVD this week is Ryan’s movie, Stop-Loss. Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce explores the U.S. government’s policy of allowing Iraq War soldiers to be returned to combat. Also costars Timothy Olyphant and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

On Saturday afternoon, the peaced out pair had a barbecue at a friend’s house in Los Angeles.

Abbie, 25, starred with Ryan, 33, co-starred in the film, Stop-Loss.

The 33-year-old Stop-Loss actor recently purcahsed a home in the Hollywood Hills for $7.175 million. The 8,300 square-foot house, which had been listed at $7.47 million, has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. There are two master suites with an office area in each, a large living room and deck for parties, and a media room with 14-foot ceilings. The outdoor living area includes a spa, a sauna and steam room, a fire pit and an Asian-style gazebo overlooking a pool.

There’s also a massive two-story gym, which is why we’ll hardly ever seen Ryan working out in public!

Ryan Phillippe keeps his arm wrapped around his leading lady, Abbie Cornish, at the Australians In Film 2008 “Breakthrough Awards” at the Avalon Hotel on Thursday in Los Angeles.

Phillippe came out to show his support as Stop-Loss director Kimberly Peirce presented Abbie with a boomerang statue of the 2008 Breakthrough Award. Both Ryan, 33, and Abbie, 25, starred in Stop-Loss, which came out earlier this year.

Abbie has been under much scrutiny in recent times, having been the rumored driving force behind Ryan and Reese Witherspoon’s much-publicized divorce.

UPDATE: Ryan rubbed Abbie’s back while she leaned against his shoulder. Throughout the evening, they even held hands. “They were adorable,” a guest at the ceremony told People. “He had his arm around her and they were cozy and comfortable.”
