The 25-year-old Ugly Betty star visited the Navajo Nation to cheer on mothers and children involved in Save the Children’s early childhood development programs. Her visit coincided with the global launch of STC’s 10th annual “State of the World’s Mothers” report, released today, which highlights the importance of investing in early childhood development, starting in infancy, and future school success.

“Seeing this program in person and actually meeting the people touched by Save the Children was an incredible experience,” said America. “It was so inspiring to see how involved and engaged the parents of the children in the program truly are and how their enthusiasm and dedication positively affects their sons and daughters.”

America Ferrera is joined by her co-stars in celebration of her cover on Gotham magazine at Pranna on Monday (April 6) in New York City.

The 24-year-old Ugly Betty star was joined by co-stars Becki Newton (wearing the same Phillip Lim dress worn by Lucy Liu and Kate Bosworth) and Vanessa Williams.

“At work I get to wear the most ridiculous stuff,” she says, and giggles girlishly during her interview for Gotham. “I get my dose of crazy fashion on the show.

“I don’t know how long you have to live in the city before you get to call yourself a New Yorker,” America says, showing a wide smile. “I feel like I was born a New Yorker.”

Things aren’t looking so pretty for Ugly Betty.

EW reports the ABC dramedy is being put on hiatus starting March 26 and replacing it with episodes of Samantha Who? and the new Megan Mullally-Cheryl Hines comedy In the Motherhood. Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

The network’s release says, “Ugly Betty will return to Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m. following the run of In the Motherhood and Samantha Who?”

An ABC spokesperson adds, “The Thursday night block is a good opportunity to launch these comedies. That said, Betty is a solid performer and there is no question that it will definitely be back to complete its season, just without repeats.”

That means Betty could return sometime in June. That’s four months away!!! Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera hits the red carpet at the 2009 SAG Awards (Screen Actors Guild) held at the Shrine Auditorium on Saturday (January 25) in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old actress rocked out a gorgeous nude Vera Wang dress with black tulle overlay. America finished off her look with Fred Leighton jewels and Jimmy Choo “Poem” satin platform sandals.

This year, America is up for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.”

America Ferrera hits the red carpet at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (January 11) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 24-year-old Ugly Betty actress wore an asymmetrical taupe Oscar de la Renta dress.
“[Oscar] sketched it and it looked amazing,” America told USA Today on the red carpet. “It is comfortable and feels fun.”

America finished off her look with Jimmy Choo’s “Clue” satin sandals and 19th Century silver on gold Fred Leighton jewels (diamond pendant earrings, diamond bow bracelet, diamond and natural pink pearl bracelet, and pear shaped diamond ring).

When asked who she’s cheering on tonight, she said, “I’m a big fan of Slumdog Millionaire.” More Here! »

Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky will make her guest appearance on Ugly Betty TOMORROW, January 8.

The 19-year-old actress will play Teri, an assistant at Elle magazine with whom Betty (America Ferrera) initially develops a friendship at first but later turns into a rivalry. The two meet at a networking mixer, where Teri does something that makes Betty’s night super-duper complicated.

Nikki was most excited to act alongside Michael Urie (Wilhemina’s assistant Marc St. James). She gushed, “[He] is next to God in my book. Michael introduced himself and said, ‘Do you want to hear one of my ringtones?’ And he held up his phone and ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’ came out. All I could think was, ‘Wow, Michael Urie knows who I am and has my voice on his cell phone.’ Crazy!”

Ugly Betty airs @ 8PM ET/PT on ABC.

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera (in Oscar de la Renta) sparkles at the 2008 Glamour Women of the Year Awards at NYC’s Carnegie Hall on Monday.

The 24-year-old actress will star and exec produce the drama American Tragic, with her longtime boyfriend Ryan Piers Williams directing his own screenplay. Production starts in February in New Mexico for a projected fall 2009 release.

According to Variety, American Tragic centers on a young war vet, played by newcomer Ryan O’Nan, who sets off across the country with a buddy to find redemption. America will play his wife and Melissa Leo (Frozen River) his mother. More Here! »

Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky will guest star on an upcoming episode of Ugly Betty, ABC confirms to JustJared.com.

The 19-year-old actress will play Teri, an assistant at Elle magazine with whom Betty (America Ferrera) initially develops a friendship but who may have an agenda of her own.

Blonsky will start filming this Friday. Her cameo is set to appear January 8 on ABC.
