As expected, Elliott Yamin, the 27-year-old aspiring singer from Richmond, Virginia was sent home last night during American Idol’s results show. UNEXPECTEDLY, the voting came down to 33.68%, 33.26%, and 33.06% from a total of 50 million votes. It was the first time in American Idol history, that we know of, that produced a winning result by mere decimal places!!! The final two (pictured above) are Taylor Hicks, 29, from Birmingham, Alabama, and Katharine McPhee, 21, from Sherman Oaks, California. It’s going to be a heckuva Taylor vs. Katharine showdown next week!!!!!!!! Many more pictures in the gallery!
Clive Davis on American Idol Tue, 16 May 2006
ELLIOT // Journey - "Open Arms"
Clive Davis: "He really came through with the Elvis Presley material, probably the best of any of the other artists. What Elliott has to be careful about is that sometimes he gets too hip for the room. Sometimes he tries to show, ‘I am different from the others,’ and he goes into cool jazz, or he will go into songs that America does not know."KATHARINE // R. Kelly - "I Believe I Can Fly"
Clive Davis: "When we met and spent time together, I said, ‘You’ve got to reach down now. You’ve got to develop your own sound. When you turn the radio on and you hear Whitney Houston, or you hear Kelly Clarkson, you know when you hear those artists. You have to develop the Katharine McPhee voice. So when you are singing "I Believe I Can Fly," when it talks of everlasting arms, where it is talking of God, you’ve got to make the audience feel that.’"TAYLOR // Bruce Springsteen - "Dancing in the Dark"
Clive Davis: "So I said, ‘Taylor, you have to understand that "Dancing in the Dark" is about one thing, it is about sex. It is about the restless anxiety,’" Clive recalls. "I took out the lyrics and I read them to him. This is about, I am bored in this town, I am bored with my life, I need some fire to light my spark. So yes, you can prowl and command the stage, but you’ve also got to understand the lyric of what you are singing, and you can’t do anything with artifice that doesn’t ring true."
This week on American Idol, each contestant will sing three songs — one selected by music mogul Clive Davis (listed above), one selected by Paula, Randy and Simon and one of his or her own choosing. Taylor Hicks, Elliott Yamin, and Katharine McPhee duke it out tonight on American Idol @ 8PM ET/PT on FOX. What do you think of Clive Davis’s song choices? Who will get the boot??

Kelly Clarkson Flying Airplane Thu, 11 May 2006
Fort Worth, Texas :: American Idol :: Season One winner Kelly Clarkson, 24, flew with the Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy’s flight demonstration team, yesterday morning at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base. The Blue Angels are the featured attraction at the Texas Thunder 2006 Air Show which will be held May 13-14 in Fort Worth. Kelly Clarkson recently had this to say about her upcoming album, ""It’s more rock, more soulful, there’s a lot that has a bit more of a singer/songwriter kind of vibe. It’s an eclectic bunch of songs that are me… The funny thing is nobody really knows that side of me. Patty Griffin is my favorite person on the planet and she’s a total singer/songwriter like Bob Dylan. She’s amazing and people don’t get to hear a lot of that on the radio, and it’s such a sad thing. Everything doesn’t have to sound like bubblegum ear candy. I mean, I love bubblegum ear candy, but it’s great to have a break from that. … [Griffin and LaMontagne] have got voices where they can break somebody’s heart — but in a good way. And that’s what I want to capture on the next album… So this record is going to be different, it’s not really how a pop star would make an album, it’s more like how a band would make an album. We’re trying something new because I seem to work better that way. I’m so excited about the album, you have no idea. I already have the video concepts!" Below, you can download an MP3 of Kelly Clarkson’s new song "Go", a snippet from Ford advertising campaigns. More pictures in the galley!
