Cate Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton, are all smiles as they attend the opening night of Spring Awakening at Sydney Theatre on Tuesday (February 9) in Sydney, Australia.

The 40-year-old actress and her husband serve as artistic directors at Sydney Theatre!

Spring Awakening , a musical set in the late 19th century that depicts teenagers discovering their sexualities, took home eight Tony Awards in 2007.

“This work really requires people who have got enough perspective and distance on their adolescence, and enough maturity to be able to interpret it,” Cate told The Australian.

“Usually when Spring Awakening is performed it’s done by people in their late 20s,” she continued. “But we’ve deliberately sought — and found — younger people who are able to do it. It’s really quite raw and confronting.”

Cate Blanchett walks through Manhattan’s West Village with sons Dashiell and Roman in some serious slush on Monday (December 21).

After a trip to Barnes & Noble, the 40-year-old actress walked home with Dashiell, 8, and Roman, 5, who took to the snow with a plastic sword!

While the boys look a little frozen today, they had a ball on Sunday with Hugh Jackman and his son, Oscar, as they played in the snow together in a Manhattan park!

Cate Blanchett and her sons brave 25 degree temperatures in New York City on Friday (December 11) and hail a cab to get home.

The 40-year-old Aussie actress held hands with Dashiell, who turned 8 last week, and Roman, 5, as they crossed the street, but once they were close enough to their building, Roman ran inside! Brr!

Cate is getting great reviews for her work in A Streetcar Named Desire - NYTimes theater critic Ben Brantley raved, “What Ms. Blanchett brings to the character is life itself, a primal survival instinct that keeps her on her feet long after she has been buffeted by blows that would level a heavyweight boxer.”

Cate Blanchett spends some time with her 19-month-old son Ignatius Martin and a friend before heading to her play A Streetcar Named Desire on Wednesday (December 2) in Brooklyn, NY.

The 40-year-old actress and wife of playwright Andrew Upton currently plays Blanche DuBois in the new revival.

Cate, who was born in Australia, was excited to take part in the American play.

“It will be exhilarating to tour a classic American play,” Cate said. “As seen through our eyes, back to an American audience.”

Unfortunately, if you were planning on catching her performance, the entire 24-day run of Streetcar Named Desire is sold out.

Cate Blanchett and her little guys, Roman Robert and Ignatius Martin, have fun at a playground in New York City on Tuesday (December 1).

The 40-year-old Aussie actress watched Roman, 5, play on a tire swing and Ignatius, 19 months, ride on a trike. Love all of Ignatius‘ funny faces!!

“Having boys is great,” Cate told People recently. “It’s a neat position to be in and I love the high energy that comes along in raising boys. It’s fun.”

The couple will be bringing the gentle Chekhov play Uncle Vanya to STC next season starring John Bell, Richard Roxburgh and Hugo Weaving (The Matrix trilogy). That’s why Cate and Hugo were BFF last weekend!

“Good Chekhov is like being at an amazing dinner party, and I’d want to sit at a table with all of those men,” Cate said of her co-stars.
