Jake Gyllenhaal and his BFF, actor Austin Nichols, wear matching silver helmets and spandex as they take their bicycles for a ride on Monday morning (April 13) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The twosome went bike-riding together on just about a month ago — Thursday (March 5) in Brentwood, Calif.

Just last week, Jake and longtime girlfriend Reese Witherspoon went on a date at Italian restaurant Il Ristorante di Giorgio Baldi.

Jake Gyllenhaal and his BFF Austin Nichols go bike-riding together on Thursday (March 5) in Brentwood, Calif.

Jake and Austin (both 28) have been biking together now for at least two years.

Austin last starred as older brother Ed Griffith in the Lifetime special Prayers for Bobby. Bobby, played by Ryan Kelley, is a young gay man who killed himself due to his mother’s and community’s religious intolerance.

Sadly, yet another…

Austin Nichols, aka Jake Gyllenhaal’s BFF, was arrested for a DUI in Jackson, Michigan at 2:30 a.m. this morning.

Seems like Austin, 27, poured his sorrows into alcohol as his short-lived HBO series John from Cincinnati recently got the ax. The surfer drama aired its season finale earlier this month and will not return for a second season.

Nichols was administered a breath test and hauled off to Jackson County Jail. BAC measurements were not released as of this morning.

Austin has been living in Clark Lake this summer, where he’s been staying with extended family members.

John from Cincinnati is a surfing drama created by David Milch, who had also produced Deadwood. Nichols, 27, will play the lead John Monrad, a mysterious guy from Cincinnati who moves out to California and joins a close-knit but dysfunctional surfing community.

They’re baaaaaaaaack!

Spandex studs Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols look pedal perfect biking along the Santa Monica Mountains on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Jake and Austin (both 26) also spent Tuesday together, biking through Griffith Park in the Los Feliz neighborhood.

Looks like their love for biking… and each other are back in high gear.

Cycling enthusiast Jake Gyllenhaal bikes his cough away through the hills of Griffith Park on Tuesday afternoon with pal Austin Nichols.

Buff Best buddies Jake and Austin (both 26) co-starred together in global-warming disaster flick The Day After Tomorrow in 2004.

The pair have also shared clothes in the past and been spotted around West Hollywood together.

Austin Nichols, 25, will start in a drama or comedy series project (um, that’s vague)  with HBO (they rarely sign actors to holding deals).  Being in the tabloids certainly didn’t hurt this deal one bit!  Remember Austin growling at the Grizzles with Jake Gyllenhaal and walking on the beach with One Tree Hill’s Sophia Bush?  Of course you did. According to Paper — Austin got his first big break as Rachel Griffith’s boy toy on Six Feet Under. Soon after, Austin met Gyllenhaal while shooting the doomsday epic The Day After Tomorrow. "I’ve learned a ton from Jake. He’s a really sharp guy. He told me everything about acting, the business, girls, life." Austin’s upcoming projects show off his darker side. In The House of Usher, he plays a "twisted, terminally ill, fucked-up guy." In Lenexa, 1 Mile, he’s a hard-partying, troubled kid with a violent temper. And in the HBO series Deadwood, Austin is mesmerizing as Wyatt Earp’s murderous brother Morgan.  Austin’s father says that he named his only son after Austin Nichols, the brewmaster of Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. "My full name, Austin Nichols, is on the label," Austin reports with a loud laugh. "My dad claims a wild turkey was released on the White House lawn the night I was born."

New York, NY :: It’s becoming cool again for men to wear spandex!  Or so Jake Gyllenhaal would like to believe. The heavily bearded actor rode his bicycle down the streets of Manhattan this past Monday in a Hooters orange bicycle jacket and black bike pants that shared quite the generous amount of body countour. Um, yeah. And as Britpopbaby shares, "I THINK JAKE JUST SLIPPED FROM DEITY TO MORTAL." Whatcha think of Jake’s skintastic pants?  Too tight or just right?
