Cate Blanchett Archives

Brad & Cate Do ‘EW’

Wahoo!! Oscars all around!! I present to you the inside photo spread of Babel’s Brad Pitt & Cate Blanchett inside this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly November 3, 2006 issue. Here’s an excerpt from the article (full article after the jump):

Cate Blanchett was marinating in a puddle of blood on a dirt floor somewhere near the southern edge of the Sahara. Brad Pitt sat nearby, slumped over on a rock, sweat pouring off him. The temperature hovered near 112 degrees in the tiny Moroccan village that had become home to the cast and crew of Babel, the politically charged four-part epic from Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu (Amores Perros, 21 Grams). This place was seriously primitive, beyond the reach of electricity and, for the most part, running water. Air conditioning? Not a chance. Indoor toilet? There’s only one: See the village elder.

Babel Review

Caught a screening of Babel last night. How did Brad Pitt measure up? Even ex Gwyneth Paltrow told NYDN that he’ll take home an Oscar: “It’s the best performance Brad’s ever given. [Babel] makes you want to take good care of your children.” Here’s how it went down…

3 different countries. 4 groups of people. Lives forever changed. A man in Morocco is sold a rifle that he gives to his two sons to protect their goats from jackals. While practicing their shooting, the younger son accidentally shoots an American woman, (Cate Blanchett) who is vacationing with her husband (Brad Pitt) aboard a tour bus. The movie establishes the characters that are further connected to the American couple, the children who are with their Mexican nanny back in the States and the original owner of the rifle, a Japanese businessman whose daughter is deaf-mute.

Cate Blanchett: Vogue Magazine

Cate Blanchett balances 5 movie roles, 2 children, 1 intimate marriage, and a 10,000 mile journey home. Cate, 37, dishes in the November 2006 issue of Vogue. “How you set out on an adventure will pretty much dictate how you continue,” she said. Says writer / producer / director Wes Anderson, “Cate can visualize her entire performance in her mind before she ever says a word.” More pictures (one of the weirdest photoshoots I’ve seen in a long time) in the gallery!

UPDATE :: Donald Trump gave Brad Pitt a nod in his latest blog entry, “Brad Pitt and Marriage“:

I know a lot of men who are perfectly happy being single. They have every excuse in the world why they’re not ready to get married.

I thought I had heard everything until I read why Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie say they won’t be tying the knot anytime soon.

In an interview in the current issue of Esquire magazine, Brad said he and Angelina won’t consider getting married until - quote - “everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able.”

Obviously, Brad is trying to be a social activist and make a point about dropping the restrictions on who is allowed to get married and who isn’t in this country. Or at least that’s what he wants people to think. Maybe he’s just come up with an excellent way to stay a bachelor.

It makes him look really concerned about the plight of other people. Yet at the same time, he doesn’t have to get married. This guy is smarter than I thought.

Babel Movie Stills: Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett

Brad Pitt has committed to star in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button about a man who hits age 50 and begins aging backward. Complications ensue when he falls in love with a woman of 30. Button will likely start production late Fall 2006.

Brad is also considering Universal’s "State of Play," the Americanized adaptation of the acclaimed British miniseries which Matthew Carnahan is writing. Brad is interested in playing a journalist and former campaign manager of a fast-rising politician who unravels a murder conspiracy involving his former boss.

The Babel trailer has also been released.  Watch it below; be sure to check out the plethora of screencaps in the gallery.  Enjoy!

Babel Movie

When Babel, the latest offering from Alejandro González Iñárritu, premieres at the Cannes Film Festival this month, it will be a remarkable moment for Mexican cinema. Before 2000, when the director’s debut, Amores Perros, took Cannes by storm, Mexican films were rarely seen by international audiences. This year, one of Babel ’s main competitors for the Palme d’Or will be Pan’s Labyrinth, by González Iñárritu’s compatriot Guillermo del Toro. That two Mexican films are competing for the most prestigious prize in world cinema is a measure of how far the Mexican industry has come in the past six years.

New Babel stills! Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s drama Babel, starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal, is currently scheduled to show at Cannes on Tuesday, May 23 and open in limited release on Friday, October 6.  Below is an Entertainment Tonight clip, which contains an intense scene from Babel featuring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.  More pictures in the gallery!
