Colin Farrell returns from his trip to Italy sans new mystery girlfriend (Muireann McDonnell) and arrives at LAX airport on Wednesday, smoking a cancer stick and wearing a fedora.

The Irish hunk’s forthcoming film Cassandra’s Dream, directed by Woody Allen tells the tale of two brothers (Farrell and Ewan McGregor) with serious financial woes. When a third party proposes they turn to crime, things go bad and the two become enemies.

Colin Farrell passes by a ceramics store late last week with his new girlfriend (of a few months), strolling the streets of Campania, Italy.

The Irish heartthrob and the Angelina Jolie lookalike locked arms the entire time they toured the small town of Positano.

The cozy couple are renting a 3-bedroom suite at the very posh Le Sirenuse Hotel on the Amalfi Coast.

I know it’s kinda hard to tell, but he was kinda hard to photograph. As I walked out of work I came face to face with Colin Farrell. So of course I had to get a photo. But, of course he didn’t want to be photographed. He kept ducking and diving so I gave up. But then I found a couple of real paparazzi who had climbed up onto a terrace with a view of the street. So I elbowed the paps out of the way and snapped.

Colin, 30, and the unidentified exotic beauty were also spotted in Bruges, Belgium last month trying to evade paparazzi. He ended up finally obliging to take a photo with a fan (inset).

Lindsay Lohan and Colin Farrell have reportedly teamed up for the Neil Jordan-directed drama Borgia, a period piece about the internal struggles of the most powerful family in 15th century Rome.

Third time’s a charm for Jordan (Breakfast on Pluto) who penned and will finally direct Borgia with Warner Independent Pictures.

Borgia fell through twice! In 2002, financing fell through for then stars Ewan McGregor and Christina Ricci. In late 2005, the same thing happened for Colin Farrell and Scarlett Johansson.

Borgia tells the story of Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, a powerful man who took over papal duties after the death of the pope in 1492. Lindsay will play Rodrigo’s daughter Lucrezia Borgia, who’s torn between her family duties and a desire to find true love. Colin will play Rodrigo’s youngest son Cesare, a duplicitous and manipulative sibling who considers himself his sister’s closest confidante.

The role of Rodrigo Borgia has yet to be cast. Filming is expected to start in late 2007 in Rome, Italy.

Colin Farrell sported a newly shaved head alongside Miami Vice co-star Gong Li during the premiere of their latest flick Miami Vice in Beijing, China this past Monday, Oct. 30. Directed by Michael Mann, also starring Jamie Foxx.

• Tom Cruise, who broke ties with Paramount Pictures last week, has signed a two-year financing deal with First & Goal LLC, an investment partnership headed by Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder. The deal will allow Cruise and producing partner Paula Wagner to run their company and make deals to produce films. First & Goal LLC will finance overhead and development costs. Cruise still must find someone to finance production of those films and a company to distribute them.

Colin Farrell was spotted taking a cigarette break on the on the set of Woody Allen’s latest, as-yet-untitled movie project earlier on today.  The cast (rising British actress Hayley Atwell pictured above) has been filming on location in at Pembroke Castle Pub & Bar (150 Gloucester Avenue) in Primrose Hill, North London.
