Daniel Craig’s the BAFTA Man

Not surprisingly, The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) just nominated Daniel Craig for Best Actor for his performance in the new Bond film, Casino Royale. He is up against Leonardo DiCaprio(The Departed), Richard Griffiths (The History Boys), Forest Whitaker (The Last King Of Scotland) and Peter O’Toole (Venus).

Casino Royale scooped up a total of nine BAFTA awards while British royal drama The Queen led the pack with ten. Both were nominated for “Best Film of the Year” alongside The Departed, The Last King of Scotland, and Little Miss Sunshine.

Daniel Craig and producer girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell attended the premiere of Infamous‘ together at the Courthouse Kempinski Hotel earlier today in London. Infamous is another film about writer Truman Capote (played by Toby Jones). Daniel plays killer, Perry Smith, who shares a kiss with Capote. With regards to Toby and Daniel kissing, Toby joked, “”I never dreamed I would kiss James Bond.”

A recent quote by Daniel Craig could land him a role in some Star Trek film or TV series: “I would love a stint in the TV show or in a film. It’s been a secret ambition of mine for years.”

Nicole Kidman Goes Down The Rabbit Hole

Nicole Kidman will star in the big-screen of Broadway play Rabbit Hole, it was announced today. Nicole’s company, Blossom Films, will produce under Fox Searchlight, David Lindsay-Abaire will adapt his play, and Nicole will also produce it. Here’s a brief synopsis:

[Rabbit Hole tells] the story of Becca (to be played by Kidman) and Howie Corbett who have everything they could want, until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down, and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. Becca, who must also cope with the distractions of her reckless sister Izzy, and their opinionated mother, Nat, takes solace in her unlikely friendship with a neighborhood teenager, Jason, who might provide the key to lead her back from the darkest of places. The play is a bittersweet drama about finding hope in the lowest moments of our lives, and the paths we take to return to the light of day.

Craig & Kidman Get Hot and Heavy in Bed

Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig take on the February 2007 issue of W Magazine. The A-listers connect twice this year on the big screen — The Invasion and His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass. Here’s an excerpt of Nicole and Daniel’s interview with W:

Daniel Craig can’t stand listening to Nicole Kidman. In fact, it’s so painful that he has stuck his fingers in his ears and is humming loudly to drown her out. Meanwhile, Kidman is happily responding to a question about whether the 38-year-old actor changed after landing his role as James Bond last year.

“Oh, completely,” deadpans Kidman, 39, who was with him, shooting one of their upcoming films, The Invasion, when he got the call. “In 24 hours he became a diva,” she adds, with a nod toward Craig, who continues to hum his tune as the pair sit in the cozy bar of a London photography studio, where they’re sharing a bottle of sparkling water. But then Kidman breaks down and tells the truth: “Oh, he didn’t change at all,” she says in her haute-Aussie twang. “The thing about Daniel, and the reason I like working with him, is that he’s an actor’s actor.”

Of course, Craig has heard the whole thing, and he seems far more alarmed by the compliment than by the faux insult. “How dare you!” he shouts, and they both giggle.

It is a chilly, slate gray autumn Saturday, and Kidman, who’s barefoot and still wearing a caffe latte–colored Dior gown from the fashion shoot, and Craig, in a navy blue cardigan more suited to Mister Rogers than Mr. Bond, are punchy after a long day posing under hot lights. On Monday they’ll return to the London set of The Golden Compass, a fantasy-adventure film based on the first book in Philip Pullman’s trilogy His Dark Materials. The movie, to be released later this year, is their second collaboration, the first being The Invasion, which is loosely based on Invasion of the Body Snatchers and is also due out in 2007.

UPDATE :: Two more quotes from the article! Daniel of Nicole: “She turns me on… in the nicest possible way, you understand.” Nicole of Daniel: “In 24 hours, he became a diva.”

Nicole Kidman’s Golden Comppas

Premiere Magazine January 2007 has a preview of Nicole Kidman’s His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass — In this adaptation of the first book in Philip Pullman’s beloved fantasy trilogy, a motley crew of witches, polar bears, and yes, Texans battle a mysterious force that kidnaps children. It took ten years for Pullman’s ambitious story to make it to the screen, with director Chris Weitz (About a Boy) exiting the project once — citing “technical challenges” — only to return two years later. All along, Daniel Craig was eyeing the role of the spooky benefactor, Lord Asriel. “It’s not just about fantasy,” Craig says. “It’s about rites of passage and becoming an adult and how tricky that is.” Newcomer Dakota Blue Richards (Selected from among 10,000 girls who turned up for open auditions in England) plays Lyra, the heroine who travels to the arctic north as part of the rescue attempt; Kidman is the malevolent Mrs. Coluter, who stalls her progress.

His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass will be released nationwide next year on Dec. 7.
