David Hyde Pierce is a Married Man

Former Frasier star David Hyde Pierce reveals that he wed longtime love Brian Hargrove on October 24th, 2008.

The 50-year-old actor shared the happy news on The View after having been together for 25 years. David and Brian tied the knot a few weeks before California’s Proposition 8 was passed, which banned same-sex marriage. The state’s Supreme Court ruled this week that his marriage (along with 18,000 others) is still legal but upheld the ban for future couples.

“[It's like] oh great, I made the cut!” David said sarcastically.

He also went on to say that one’s sexuality is a personal matter. “What you choose to talk about is a personal decision,” David said. “I’m not a big fan [of outing celebrities].”

David Hyde Pierce is Gay

Former Frasier star David Hyde Pierce officially came out of the closet (unintentionally or intentionally?) in an Associated Press article published on CNN.com.

[Pierce] worked at Playwrights Horizons, the Public Theater, Shakespeare in the Park and a lot of regional theaters such as the Guthrie in Minneapolis, Chicago’s Goodman and Long Wharf in New Haven, Conn. Pierce got to Los Angeles in the early 1990s when his partner, actor-writer-producer Brian Hargrove, wanted to write for television.

Pierce, 48, has been nominated for a Tony for Curtains on Broadway, where he is currently appearing.

‘Curtains’ Broadway Musical Review

Caught Curtains on Broadway early this month, so without further ado, here’s a mini-review!

Curtains is an old fashioned type of song and dance musical, that relies more on an actual story told through expository singing and clever chorus configurations than on a funny premise, glitzy set pieces and ironic jokes about today’s world.

Curtains opens with a parody of terribly cheesy all-American musical (think the worst of Lil’ Abner or Oklahoma) cleverly presented from from front and back stage. It almost seems reminiscent of Kiss Me Kate for a moment, with a bad-tempered leading lady in a not-quite wonderful show, but that all ends in the 2nd scene when it’s [SPOILER!] CURTAINS [/SPOILER!] for her.

The setup in the first act does drag a little. Songs seem like they could be tightened up. The actors are fun and the lyrics are witty, but there were a few scenes in which the show seemed to indulge a little too much in itself. The 2nd act, where the story really picks up, was wonderfully good.

And, of course, the great highlights of the show were the actors. Standouts among them included Megan Sikora as Bambi (the not-so genuine blonde bimbo), Jill Paice as Niki Harris (the unbelievably sweet and innocent chorus girl) and David Hyde Pierce as Lieutenant Frank Cioffi (the stagestruck cop with a heart of gold who sounds nothing like Niles Crane).
