Letterman, Leno & Oprah Team Up For Super Bowl Commercial
In what was one of the most popular Super Bowl commercials of the night, late night hosts David Letterman and Jay Leno joined talk show host Oprah Winfrey in a 10 second spot for The Late Show with David Letterman.
Late Show executive producer Rob Burnett told EW how the ad was shot without the press catching on:
“We began having logistical meetings that would make the CIA proud,” Rob said. “We had to figure out a way to keep it a surprise. NBC arranged to have Jay fly on the NBC jet at 7:30 in morning on Feb. 2 and he was at the Teterboro Airport [in New Jersey] at 3:30 p.m. We snuck him through the front door on Broadway.”
“Jay wore a disguise …a hooded sweatshirt, dark sunglasses and a mustache. Fifteen minutes later, Oprah arrived … but not in a disguise. We shot it in the balcony of the Ed Sullivan Theater.”

Jay Leno Jokes David Letterman Extortion Plot
During Friday’s monologue, Jay Leno poked fun at David Letterman’s affair and extortion plot he faced.
Leno joked, “If you came here tonight for sex with a talk show host, you’ve got the wrong studio. What is going on? First, Conan [O'Brien] hits his head. Then, someone tries to extort money from Letterman. I’m so glad I’m out of late night. I myself was once the victim of an extortion plot. How do you think NBC got me to do a 10 pm show?”
And on Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher joked, “I’ve never had sex with members of my staff — the guests, yes, of course, but not the staff.” He also said, “Hey, next to Roman Polanski and Mackenzie Phillips’ dad, I think Dave looks pretty good.”
Meanwhile, former Letterman assistant Stephanie Birkitt has been named as one of the women that the Late Night host had a relationship with.

David Letterman Extortion Plot Unravels, Joe Halderman Indicted
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has released a statement in regard to the extortion plot involving David Letterman .
The statement released to ET states: “The defendant Robert Joel Halderman, a.k.a. Joe Halderman, [who] is 51 years old of Norwalk, CT, was indicted on an attempted grand larceny charge. The crimes charged in the indictment occurred between September 9th and September 30th of 2009.
“The investigation leading to today’s indictment reveal[s] that Halderman waited outside Letterman’s Manhattan home at 6 a.m. on September 9th to deliver a letter and other materials to him as he was leaving for work.
“Halderman wrote that he needed to ‘make a large chunk of money’ by selling Letterman a so-called ’screenplay treatment.’ The one page screenplay treatment attached to the letter referred to Mr. Letterman’s great professional success and … his ‘beautiful and loving son.’ The document then related that Mr. Letterman’s ‘world is about to collapse around him’ as information about his private life is disclosed leading to a ‘ruined reputation’ and severe damage to his professional and family lives.
“The package contained other materials supporting the screenplay treatment and directed Mr. Letterman to call him by 8 a.m. to make a deal. Mr. Letterman immediately contacted his attorney, who arranged an initial meeting with Halderman. During this initial meeting, Halderman demanded to be paid 2 million dollars to avoid the disclosure of the private information in his so-called screenplay treatment.
“Halderman, a long time employee of CBS, currently works for the program 48 Hours Mystery. He was arrested yesterday outside the CBS offices on West 57th street and will be arraigned today in state Supreme Court.
“A search warrant was executed in Connecticut yesterday and the investigation is continuing.”

David Letterman Admits Affair, Faced Extortion Plot
David Letterman admitted on Thursday that he had sexual relations with female members of his staff and was the victim of a $2 million extortion attempt because of it.
Here’s what the 62-year-old star said on Thursday’s Late Show:
On giving a testimony: “This morning, I did something I’ve never done in my life. I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury.”
On admitting to engaging in sexual relationships with staff members: “My response to that is, yes I have. Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would.”
On why he testified: “I feel like I need to protect these people – I need to certainly protect my family.”
With the help of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Special Prosecution Bureau, Letterman participated in a sting operation that included David handing a counterfeit $2 million check to the extortionist, who was arrested on Thursday.
Letterman married longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March (they’ve been dating since 1986). They have a son, Harry, who turns 6 next month.
UPDATE: Robert Halderman, a producer for CBS, has been arrested for extorting Letterman. Radar reports he lived with the woman who Letterman was involved with. The affair happened before his son was born but Letterman was living with his wife-to-be at the time.
