Mamma Mia! star Dominic Cooper is featured in the new actor portfolio for VMAN magazine’s summer 2009 issue, on stands TODAY!
The 30-year-old British actor will soon be taking on Greek tragedy in History Boys director Nicholas Hytner’s new theatrical production of Phaedra. Dominic will play Hippolytus, the ill-fated love object of the title character, played by Helen Mirren. The production will travel from London to Greece before ending with a Washington, D.C., performance which will be attended by none other than President Barack Obama. “I’m petrified about it,” laughs Dominic. “I haven’t been on stage in over a year and there are pages and pages of these iconic speeches to be delivered. I’m playing this very famously complicated character, plus you’re dealing with gods and monsters rising up out of the sea. I plan to go sit in a library for the next week or so and do lots and lots of homework.”
