Celebrities came out in droves for music mogul Clive Davis‘ pre-Grammy party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday night in Beverly Hills — Tyra Banks, Whitney Houston, Ellen DeGeneres with girlfriend Portia De Rossi, Ciara, Vanessa Minnillo with boyfriend Nick Lachey, and JC Chasez (below). Whitney is wearing Roberto Cavalli.

Justin Timberlake backed out of performing because he has the flu. I knew he didn’t look all there on Friday Night at the launch of “JT-TV.” Maybe he got the cooties from K-Fed when they hugged. Anything’s possible, right? I wonder if Justin’s going to be a no show at the Grammys…

Clive found a quick replacement for Justin and tapped Motown music legend Smokey Robinson to perform “My Girl.” (Sidenote: Clive signed UK’s Leona Lewis in a $10 million contract.)

One member of the press shares her experiences from the red carpet:

The bigger the star, the less time they spend on the red carpet. It appeared that [Christina] Aguilera only stopped for still photographers and then just kept walking down the red carpet.

We were given warning, “Clive and Whitney are coming down. They’re not going to stop, so get your shot.”

And indeed, they didn’t. A reporter shouted, “Whitney, how are you doing?” She said, without missing a step, “Cavalli, Cavalli,” referring to her dress designer, who also attended the party.

Obviously not one of Tyra’s best looks…

Kingston Rossdale, 8 months, gets behind the wheel as he tapes his television debut on Wednesday as rocker mommy Gwen Stefani and Ellen DeGeneres looks on. The Ellen DeGeneres Show taped on Wednesday and will air on Friday with Gwen closing out the show with a performance of “The Sweet Escape” feat. Akon. [via People]

Gwen told Extra TV that she’ll soon start recording with No Doubt: “I’m so excited about the (solo) tour and it’s going to be starting in April. I’m just starting to get into rehearsals now. I have two whole albums to choose from. It will definitely be the only time to see these songs live. If you want to come see them, come see them, because I’m sniffing around with No Doubt. We’re going to record another record next.”

KA! KA! KA! Ka! Ka! Ka. ka. ka. Ellen DeGeneres wears almost nothing and almost everything in her cover shoot for W Magazine March 2007 — Gucci, Rolex, Lanvin, and even Yves Saint Laurent. Ellen was photographed by Michael Thompson and styled by Alex White at Pier 59 Studios West. Here’s a few new highlights from the interview:

• Time once quoted you as saying there’s too much sex out there. I do think there’s too much, and I don’t have a kid. The lyrics of songs, everything; I just feel like every kid is growing up too fast and they’re seeing too much. Everything is about sex, and that’s fine for me. I’m not saying I don’t like it. But I don’t think it should be everywhere, where kids are exposed to everything sexual. Because they have to have some innocence; there’s just no innocence left.
• Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? I think that’s all we are, if we tap into it…. The praying starts when you’re faced with something, obviously. I just make a point of being aware of it every single day, all day if I can.
• Do you believe in God? I believe that’s a label for something.

Ellen DeGeneres glammed up as the cover girl for the March 2007 issue of W Magazine. Here are some highlights from Ellen’s W magazine interview:

• On making the cover of W: “I know what this magazine is. … It’s a fashion magazine. For me to even be asked to be on the cover — it’s huge.”
• On not compromising and wearing a dress for the shoot: “I just don’t feel comfortable in it.”
• Do you enjoy fashion? I usually wear Jil Sander, or I wear Marc Jacobs, or I wear Viktor & Rolf…. I love Raf Simons, but I didn’t know he was even doing the [Jil Sander] collection. I like Neil Barrett. I love clothes, so when I wear clothes, they’re usually somebody’s. You know, I’m not wearing Kmart.
• Do you think that’s the perception? Whenever Portia and I are on the red carpet, they’re yelling out for her to tell them what she’s wearing. But nobody cares [about what I’m wearing] because I have a suit on, even if it’s a Gucci suit. That to me is frustrating, because I put effort into getting ready too. But I guess it’s not as important, and I’m not as dressed up somehow. I also feel myself more of a person than a gender. When people show me clothing that seems very, very feminine, it’s hard for me to embrace that, because it just doesn’t feel like me…. It was fun [for the shoot] having somebody do that to my hair, and do that makeup. But would I want to do that every single day? No.
• What will you wear to the Oscars? Everybody’s sending me stuff. Gucci sent me this amazing package with all kinds of different designs and different fabrics, in a beautiful box with my name engraved in gold plate. I picked some fabrics, and they’re making me something. Zac Posen made me a gorgeous tuxedo. Viktor & Rolf is making me something…. I wasn’t planning on changing because it’s just different suits, but I may do it, because I’d like to thank them all for making me stuff, for wanting to do that.
• What do you think of Kathy Griffin? Very mean…. I know she had a big thing about wanting to be on the show, and we didn’t book her. She did a whole thing that I banned her from the show. I didn’t ban her from the show, because first you have to be on the show to be banned.
• What about Sarah Silverman? I think she’s hilarious. I think she’s raunchy as can be, not my kind of comedy, but I think she’s brilliant. Smart counts for a whole lot to me.
• Borat? Sacha? I think Sacha [Baron Cohen], again, is brilliant. He’s a friend of mine. I think he’s hilarious. I haven’t seen Borat, so I can’t really speak [about it] yet. I don’t like bathroom humor and I know that there’s some pretty gross stuff in there. But some of the stuff he does is hilarious—as long as everybody is clear on the fact that he’s pointing out how scary a lot of people are.
• On having kids: “Ellen would carry,” girlfriend Portia de Rossi says. “That will never happen,” Ellen replies.

• Dancing with the Stars runner-up Mario Lopez is upset that he did not win the celebrity dance competition, calling himself the better dancer. “I figure if this was truly a dance competition they would have voted for the better dancer,” Mario told The Post.
• Russell Simmons and Petra Nemcova are headed to Africa later this month to tour diamond mines. Russell plans to start the Diamond Empowerment Fund to teach Africans how to cut and polish diamonds themselves. While Russell and Petra have been rumored to be an item, Russell has insisted that they are just friends - and Petra told the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar that she’s “definitely, definitely in love with James Blunt.”
• ABC revealed they are thinking of bringing back Dancing with the Stars for a fourth season as early as March - and the show might compete directly with American Idol.
