Barrymore Goes BANA-nas

Lucky You co-stars Drew Barrymore (in Christian Dior) and Eric Bana attend the premiere of their high stakes film at the Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday night at NYC’s BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center.

The $50-million Bana-Barrymore romantic comedy hits screens opens nationwide on Friday, May 4. Unfortunately, reviews from preview audiences have been unfavorable, so Warner Bros. is scaling back on its marketing push for the poker flick.

Eric Bana’s Car Crash

The Hulk star Eric Bana got into a car crash but thankfully he’s a-okay!

Australian actor Eric Bana and his co-driver were uninjured today after they crashed their car during an around-the-state rally in Tasmania.

Bana, who is competing in the Targa Tasmania rally with co-driver Tony Ramunno, crashed his 1974 Ford XB Coupe into a bank, but both walked away from the crash, officials said.

Bana and co-driver Tony Ramunno have put out their OK boards, indicating that neither of them required medical attention,” a statement said. “Bana was in 53rd place, from a field of 115 cars in the Outright Classic competition, before the crash.”

Bana and Ramunno hope to repair the car so they can compete in the final day of the rally tomorrow.

‘Lucky You’ Movie Stills

Here are new stills for poker flick Lucky You starring Eric Bana, Drew Barrymore, Debra Messing, and Jean Smart (24).

Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore) is a young singer from Bakersfield with more heart than talent. Huck Cheever (Eric Bana) is a poker player whose emotions at the table often undermine his exceptional skill, especially when he is heads up with his father, poker legend L.C. Cheever (Robert Duvall). The one aptitude Billie and Huck seem to share is a knack for reading people—the difference is what they do with that gift. While Huck’s instincts enable him to take advantage of his opponents at the poker table and expertly avoid both emotional connections and long-term commitments in his personal life, Billie uses her intuition to see the emotional truth of those around her and sympathize with their pain. When these two meet, the real game begins. If Huck is going to win Billie’s heart, he must learn to play cards the way he has been living life and live his life the way he has been playing cards.

Eric Bana is an Elle Man

Hunk du Jour Eric Bana is featured as in the April 2007 issue of Elle Magazine as this month’s “Elle Man.” The heartthrob from down under speaks out:

  • On his trademark gaze: “I have a problem where when I think I’m looking friendly, I look like I want to kill someone.”
  • On his acting technique: “If my character has to feel something, I pretty much want to feel it. I want to feel like I’m killing someone. I want to feel the guilt someone feels after he’s stabbed someone or shot someone. I want to feel the fear of pointing a gun at someone. Because it’s just bloody interesting. Otherwise it just feels fake.”
  • On being an introvert: “I’d rather talk about anyone at a party but me, unless I’m with close friends and I’ve had a drink. You get sick of yourself. Anyone can jump onstage and do something; I want to watch.”
  • On ‘Banatics,’ his female fans: “I don’t know what ages they are; it’s probably better if I didn’t.”
  • On taking risks: “Risk-taking to me is not risk-taking. What scares me most is sitting around not doing anything, not taking chances.”

His romantic comedy Lucky You co-starring Drew Barrymore opens nationwide May 4. Read the full Eric Bana article from Elle Magazine April 2007 below!
