Angelina Jolie and Oscar - Perfect Together Fri, 18 January 2008
Newsweek has put together its 2008 Oscar roundtable including Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard and James McAvoy.
Angie on A Mighty Heart:
“I was comfortable when Mariane [Pearl] was comfortable. But I wasn’t so comfortable the first day of shooting, when I realized his style was so unbelievably raw. There is often no rehearsal, no one saying “cut.” For example, you have three different rooms, and we would go into one room and we’d be talking, say our five lines, and he’d film us. Then I’d go pee, and I’d come out, and the camera was still on. So I’d think, “OK …” Then I’d say my five lines again, and that would turn into 10 more minutes of talking, and then someone would go get something from the kitchen and I’d go to my bedroom, and he’d follow me and he just wouldn’t leave. It was really odd. But it became just the most perfect way to shoot that film. It was chaos in that moment. It was very intimate, and my big fear was that something horrible might happen and the camera would be like this. [She gestures as though there’s a camera right in her face] But everybody was absolutely connected in every single moment. Even when we’d have lunch, we’d have it together at the table, or we’d all go for a walk together. We were just always present in the film. And so as an actor it brought me back to loving acting, and that was just great. But he does cross a line. One day one of the girls got sick and threw up, and he said, “Next time, tell us.” So he can be a little crazy. But I absolutely adore him.”

Gerorge Clooney @ 2007 National Board of Review Awards Gala Wed, 16 January 2008
George Clooney and girlfriend Sarah Larson heat up the red carpet at The 2007 National Board of Review Awards Gala at Cipriani 42nd street on Tuesday in New York City.
The 46-year-old star picked up Best Actor for playing the title role in Michael Clayton. He also presented the Coen brothers with Best Picture of the Year for No Country for Old Men. Here’s People’s funny report of how it went down:
“They can do anything,” Clooney said of director Joel, 53, and writer, Ethan, 50. Summarizing their filmography and the audience to whom their movies appeal, Clooney said, “For stoners, there’s The Big Lebowski … for funny, there’s Raising Arizona.”
Clooney also said that what was “most fun is, these guys hate [awards shows]. They are the worst you have ever seen at this. Watch when they get up here,” Clooney warned. “Ethan won’t talk. Joel will finally say, ‘Thanks, man,’ then just leave.”
Sure enough, came their brief time at the podium, Ethan didn’t talk, and Joel finally said, ‘Thanks, man’ – and left.
This left Clooney to go back to his table and a smiling Larson, who gave him a look of approval and a pat on the shoulder.

George Clooney @ Critics Choice Awards 2008 Mon, 07 January 2008
George Clooney flashes his million-dollar smile at the 2008 Critics’ Choice Awards held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on Monday in Santa Monica, Calif.
The 46-year-old actor presented the Joel Siegel Award to his Ocean’s Thirteen costar Don Cheadle for his work “both on- and offscreen, inspiring and contributing to the good of humanity.”
Clooney, 46, is being credited with inspiring the actors’ boycott against the Golden Globe Awards.
Said one NBC executive, “We know Clooney is a major force behind this decision. He has been earbashing others who may have been willing to cross picket lines.”
It would seem that the master prankster’s plan worked! The Golden Globes were officially canceled earlier today by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
“We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007’s outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television,” HFPA president Jorge Camara said. “We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year’s Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled.” (The winners will be announced during a news conference at the Beverly Hilton.) George Clooney Donates $25,000 to Writers Mon, 19 November 2007
George Clooney has generously donated $25,000 to the Actors Fund, according to Variety.
The donated funds will provide emergency assistance to workers in the entertainment industry who fall on hard times because of the strike.
“To people like myself, the strike is a forced vacation, but with the rhetoric high, and two other strikes looming, there is the fear that a prolonged strike can destroy people who make a living in this industry,” Clooney, 46, said. “My hope is that people who can afford it will take responsibility for this and help out. This felt like the right place, because the Actors Fund is the most inclusive. It helps writers, and everyone from craft services workers to agency assistants who have been laid off.”
Bless George’s heart!
George Clooney & Renee Zellweger - “W” Magazine December 2007 Fri, 09 November 2007
Leatherheads costars Renee Zellweger and George Clooney share the cover of the December 2007 issue of W magazine. Inside, Renee jokes that they’ve been married for 28 years. “Twenty-seven,” says Clooney. “We lived together for the first year.”
The first bunch of quotes are from Clooney’s interview with W, the rest of Renee’s:
On backing Barack Obama in the next Presidental election: “I spoke to him two days ago for a half hour. I think that he’s in that sort of doldrums, that midelection run, where you’re still trying to define what it is that you want to be.”
On borrowing shots from directors he admires: “I sent apology letters to Mike Nichols and Sidney Lumet after Confessions because I just directly stole shots. But then I told Joel and Ethan that I’ve stolen shots from them, and they’re like, ‘Yeah, we stole that shot from Capra.’”
On rewriting the script to “Leatherheads” to accommodate his age: “You can’t try to hide your age and you can’t try to pretend it isn’t there. You have to use it as a tool.”
On Renee’s role in the upcoming film “Leatherheads”: “In movies, so often the guy gets to be the one with all the answers. In this one, she’s the smart one. Which was incredible acting on her part.”
On directing Renee: “She’s my friend, so I can be really direct. I can say, ‘That’s not a good angle,’ and not try to manipulate her, saying, ‘Well, maybe you’d be looking off over there because the moon is shining.’”
On encouraging Gawker.com readers to post fake sightings of him: “They had 6,000 locations for me in the first day.”
On working with master directors like Joel and Ethan Coen and Steven Soderbergh: “[They] taught me everything I know. If you plan it out and work really hard, then it’s much easier to make films.”
Renee on her fear of letting Clooney down in “Leatherheads”: “…He doesn’t even know how important his opinion has been to me over the years. I don’t want to disappoint him.”
Renee on Clooney’s direction: “I just get so proud that my head pops off. George is such a confident director, and he has no idea. And he’s a nice person. It gets boring hearing that, but it’s true. Every once in a while you get the real good guy. You’ve got your Jimmy Stewart. You’ve got your Paul Newman. Now you’ve got your George Clooney.”
Renee on Gawker.com encouraging readers to post stars’ precise whereabouts: “Oh, I log on every day to see where George is. Oh my God, get your things! He’s at Barneys!…The problem with that is with his schedule these days, the sightings were all true. He was in all 6,000 places that morning—before lunch.”
