Ellen Pompeo is all smiles as she arrives at a pilates class holding her Blackberry on Friday (September 2) in Los Angeles.

The 41-year-old actress’ show Grey’s Anatomy will return to television for its eighth season with a special two hour episode on September 22.

A sneak peek clip of the episode was recently released. In the scene, Meredith (Pompeo) must face the consequences of her actions from tampering with Dr. Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) Alzheimer’s drug trial.

Ellen Pompeo leaves MTV studios after making an appearance on The Seven on Thursday (May 12) in New York City.

The 41-year-old Grey’s Anatomy actress greeted fans outside and happily signed autographs before heading out for the evening.

“I would love to do a movie, I’m dying to do a movie, I’m dying to do something new,” Ellen expressed on the show. “I’m only contracted through season eight so next season is my last, beyond that I don’t know what will happen. Hopefully I’ll have opportunities to do some cool projects.”

Ellen Pompeo drops by Good Morning America on Thursday (May 12) in New York City.

The 41-year-old Grey’s Anatomy actress chatted about what’s next for the show and how women have been telling her they can relate to her character’s struggle to conceive a baby.

“It really helps me want to tell the story truthfully…a lot of time, on Grey’s, we want to wrap things up into a neat little package or a not so realistic package – because that’s just what you have to do – and it’s so important for those women who have come up to me and been brave enough to share their stories with me. I fight for the storyline to be realistic, to be genuine, and to be something of a ray of hope for women. I’m trying very hard!” Ellen dished.

Cougar Town‘s Scott Foley has joined the Grey’s Anatomy cast in a major recurring role, Deadline reports.

The 38-year-old actor, who previously appeared on the medical comedy Scrubs, will reportedly play a patient and potential love interest for Kim Raver‘s character, Dr. Teddy Altman.

Patrick, on what he’d like to see Derek do in the future: “Give up surgery for a while and concentrate on building his house and getting his priorities in line. He’d float in and out of the hospital to consult on certain cases.”

Ellen, on separation from daughter Stella: “It’s very challenging. I bring her here as often as I can, but sometimes I have my moments where I am not the nicest person here because I feel very stressed that I want to get home to her.”

Patrick, on working with Ellen: “We’ve been together longer than some couples and gone through everything. We’ve had our good days and our bad days, but we work through our things. I have really great chemistry with her. It’s a magical connection that will always be there.”

Former Mercy doc James Tupper will appear in at least two episodes on the upcoming seventh season of Grey’s Anatomy.

According to EW, the 44-year-old Canadian actor, who also starred on ABC’s Men in Trees, will play Andrew Perkins, “a trauma counselor brought in to help Seattle Grace recover from that nightmarish season-ending bloodbath.”

The season premiere of Grey’s kicks off on Thursday (Sept. 23) with episode “With You I’m Born Again.”
