Matilda Ledger Hangs With Michelle Williams

Emile Hirsch plays a Vietnam vet in the upcoming Taking Woodstock and remembers being inspired by Michelle’s ex, Heath Ledger. The 24-year-old actor told Parade, “As soon as I heard [director] Ang Lee was interested in me, I knew I was going to do the film even before I got the script. I’ve been a fan of Ang ever since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which I absolutely adored. And of course Brokeback Mountain just blew me away. I’ll always remember talking to Heath just after he finished that movie and he was going on about working with Ang and how incredible he was.”

Heath Ledger Covers Vanity Fair

Heath Ledger’s final days are chronicled in Peter Biskind’s cover story, “The Last of Heath,” in the August 2009 issue of Vanity Fair, on NY/LA stands July 1 and nationally July 7.

“[Heath] was ready to bust out of the gate, but he didn’t want to step on the gas and become something that he didn’t want to become: a matinee idol,” Heath’s friend and agent, Steven Alexander, told Vanity Fair. “He was a private person, and he didn’t want to share his personal history with the press. It just wasn’t up for sale. That’s part of the reason he initially tore down his career. He wasn’t motivated by money or stardom, but by the respect of his peers, and for people to walk out of a movie theater after they’d seen something that he’d worked on and say, ‘Wow, he really disappeared into that character.’ He was striving to become an ‘illusionist,’ as he called it, able to create characters that weren’t there.”

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus — FIRST REVIEWS!

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was one of the most anticipated film of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival because it’s the last one from the late Heath Ledger.

Colleagues Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell pitched in to finish the film, which ends with the on-screen credit: “A Film From Heath Ledger and Friends”. Here are the film’s first reviews:

Hollywood Reporter: The first big question about [director Terry Gilliam] managed to complete the film when his star Heath Ledger died in the middle of shooting. The answer is with great imagination and skill… The three stars that came to Gilliam’s rescue also make amusing contributions but it’s hard not to wonder how much better the film would have been with a complete performance by the charismatic and adventurous Ledger.”

Variety: “Especially considering the trauma and difficulties stemming from Heath Ledger’s death during production and the fact that Terry Gilliam hadn’t directed a good picture in more than a decade, the helmer has made a pretty good thing out of a very bad situation in Imaginarium.”

The projected theatrical release for Imaginarium is Friday, June 6.
