Weeds star Hunter Parrish has been working on music with a major record label, sources reveals exclusively to JustJared.com.

The actor, who turns 22 on Wednesday, hasn’t signed on the dotted line for an official record deal yet but has been working on his music career in his spare time.

Hunter last played a basketball player in Zac Efron’s latest flick 17 Again. He also played young romantic Melchior in the Tony-Award-winning Broadway musical Spring Awakening until the show closed this past January.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe visits the cast of Spring Awakening on Broadway backstage at The Eugene O’Neill Theater in New York City on Sunday night.

The 19-year-old British actor supported his fellow Broadway stars, Spring Awakening cast members Hunter Parrish (Melchior), Alexandra Socha (Wendla) and Gerard Canonico (Moritz).

Spring Awakening, the Tony Award-winning rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik, announced it will close on Broadway on January 18, 2009.

The 29-year-old former American Idol finalist is currently back on Broadway reprising the role of Sir Robin in the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Monty Python’s Spamalot through January 4, 2009.

Parrish joined the cast of Spring Awakening this past August, taking the lead role of Melchior Gabor and winning rave reviews from critics.
