Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal leave their New York City hotel with their shades in tow on Wednesday afternoon.

The pair has been enjoying their time in the Big Apple, stopping by Prune restaurant in the East Village. Reese, 31, and Jake, 27, also spent time in Soho shopping at A.P.C.

The couple dined and laughed with four friends and even shared a steak for two! They “were really cute,” adds the source. “They were really sweet together and they looked really in love.”

Earlier this weekend, Jake, 27, was spotted hiking at a Los Angeles park with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon and her two kids, Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4. It was the first sighting of the star since his Brokeback costar Heath Ledger’s passing.

It was reported last week that Jake was in New Mexico shooting his new film, Brothers. Presumably, he flew back home recently to attend the private memorial service for Heath, which was attended by his close family and friends.

Jake is the godfather of Heath and Michelle Williams 2-year-old daughter Matilda.

Cute couple Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon step out for a breakfast date in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

On the way out of the restaurant, Reese was kind enough to stop and give a couple bucks to a homeless woman.

Jake Gyllenhaal has a lunch meeting on Wednesday with one of his PR reps at one of his favorite West Hollywood eateries, the trendy Joan’s On Third.

When Jake spotted paparazzi inside the restaurant, he got up and told them all to leave. SHOO, FLY! DON’T BOTHER ME.

After finishing their meal together, Jake and his rep left in a black Mercedes.

Jake Gyllenhaal celebrated his 27th birthday Wednesday on the set of his new film Brothers, which is currently filming in New Mexico.

Jake was seen sporting a faux tattoo on his neck for his role in the Jim Sheridan-directed movie, out 2009. Brothers also stars Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman and tells the story of a young man who comforts his older brother’s wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan. Sheridan directed the 1999 film Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

And if you want to stretch your imagination a little bit, you can pretend he’s talking with Reese Witherspoon in the pink beanie. Although, Jake and Reese were were spotted in San Francisco, Calif. earlier this month walking along Pier 39 at the Fisherman’s Wharf with her son Deacon.

Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath in a feature film, according to Variety.

Exec producer Jimmy Walsh believes that the ‘athletic Gyllenhaal is the right actor to play Namath.’

While other quarterbacks racked up bigger lifetime stats, Namath became the first football player to achieve rock-star status. The pic will tell the story of how the golden-armed kid from Beaver Falls, Pa., became Broadway Joe, the New York Jets quarterback who became a ’60s cultural figure.

Jake, 26, is currently shooting the Jim Sheridan-directed Brothers with Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman.
