Synopsis: In 1935, 13-year-old fledgling writer Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan) and her family live a life of wealth and privilege in their enormous mansion. On the warmest day of the year, the country estate takes on an unsettling hothouse atmosphere, stoking Briony’s vivid imagination. Robbie Turner (McAvoy), the educated son of the family’s housekeeper, carries a torch for Briony’s headstrong older sister Cecilia (Knightley). Cecilia, he hopes, has comparable feelings; all it will take is one spark for this relationship to combust. When it does, Briony – who has a crush on Robbie – is compelled to interfere, going so far as accusing Robbie of a crime he did not commit. Cecilia and Robbie declare their love for each other, but he is arrested – and with Briony bearing false witness, the course of three lives is changed forever. Briony continues to seek forgiveness for her childhood misdeed. Through a terrible and courageous act of imagination, she finds the path to her uncertain atonement, and to an understanding of the power of enduring love.

Atonement opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, Dec. 7.

Following the murder of Wes’s father, Fox recruits him to join the Fraternity, a secret society that teaches Wes to unlock powers of lightning reflexes, enormous speed and above average sexiness. But, as with any mysterious sect, the Fraternity is not all it seems.”

Wanted opens in theaters nationnwide on March 28, 2008.

The always dapper James McAvoy arrives at the UK premiere of Atonement at the Odeon in Leicester Square on Tuesday in London, England.

Other pictures include James arriving at Excelsior Hotel late last week for the Venice Film Festival.

McAvoy’s father, also called James, has told UK’s The Daily Mail of his heartfelt plea for a reunion after a 21-year estrangement from his son.

“I would meet him any time, any place,’ he said. “But I would never want anything off James and never take any payment for interviews.

“I backed out of his life because I was told that my visits were upsetting him. But with all the years that have passed, I feel I could not now make the first move. Any reconciliation has to be in his own time.”

Fresh-faced Scottish actor James McAvoy and British actress wife Anne-Marie Duff rub noses during the opening ceremony and the Atonement Premiere of the 64th Annual Venice Film Festival on Wednesday in Venice, Italy.

Duff is nine years McAvoy’s senior — Duff is 37, McAvoy is 28. The couple met while filming Shameless, an offbeat British comedy drama television series. James and Anne-Marie celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary this October.

James McAvoy joins in on the Venice Film Festival fun on Wednesday in Venice, Italy with his Atonement castmates — Keira Knightley, Vanessa Redgrave, Saoirse Ronan and director Joe Wright.

Atonement tells the story of fledgling writer Briony Tallis, as a 13-year-old, irrevocably changing the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister’s (Knightley) lover (McAvoy) of a crime he did not commit. The film is based on the British romance novel by Ian McEwan.
